Dear Sheila and all. Thanks! I considered you all family long before I
could prove it. Being a member of the Clough Society and participating in the
Clough trips and reunions have been a great joy in my life. I treasure all the
great memories and look forward to making new ones. Take care. Love, Becky
Rebecca,
Thank you for sharing this information with the group. You are a wonderful
researcher and so many of us have benefited from your research. I, for one,
look forward to the additional information you are able to unearth! :-)
I also look forward to continue working with you in regard to the upcoming
April 2006 trip. The group will surely benefit by the additional information
you have to share with them. It is just one of the advantages the group members
will have.
Just as an aside for those signed onto the list who do not know who you are:
Rebecca was born and raised in Alabama but has lived in England for the past
10 years. She is the one who found out about Oxford Ancestors doing DNA
analysis to assist in genealogical research a few years back which inspired the
Clough Society to take the ball and run with it. Rebecca is also instrumental in
assisting me with the Clough family groups I lead to the United Kingdom. :-)
Continue the good work! :-)
Much Affection,
Sheila

Thanks! You just never know where the link may turn up. I will look
especially hard in Dublin for those Cluffs that I told you about. One of the other
tidbits about the Stafford, VA Clough/Cloe/Clows is that they passed through
Ireland on their way to America. No doubt to further confuse their descendants.
You always sound like you're having a wonderful time. Enjoy your summer.
Love, Becky
Becky, This is fantastic news! I will forward it to Nancy Clough Siders to
give her inspiration as she and I continue to search for our Clough line. Hope
you are well and that Sheila's 2006 trip is shaping up. We just got back from
a fabulous trip to Peru and will be leaving for our summer in Oregon in about
a week. Ciao, Susan
Congratulations Becky!
Love, Dawn

John Andrew Clough was born in Centerville, Maryland and moved to Denver,
Colorado. He is a confirmed Maryland/Delaware Clough/Clow by Trish Surles, their
family genealogist. This family's DNA sample was only one marker different
from my brother's and they have a William Clough of about the same age as my
William I. Even better is that their William left Maryland in 1801, the same
year that my William appeared in North Carolina.
I'm speculating that my William would have been his uncle or great uncle.
The information about his ancestors coming to New York from Scotland also fits
because the next closest DNA matches were two markers different to my
brother's, were New York Dutch/Huguenot and Connecticut/Canada Huguenot. The Huguenots
migrated to a number of other countries in Europe before doing a second
migration to America. Last year on the way to the reunion, I drove through Cherry
Valley, New York where a cousin to the NY DNA match resides. He confirmed
there are a number of Cloughs and Clows in Cherry Valley. I've since found that
there was a large land grant to Scottish settlers in Cherry Valley, New York.
I'm still trying to connect the dots, but I'm delighted to finally have some
confirmation of the ancestry and the migration route.
OF WELSH DECENT.
In the death of John A. Clough Denver sustains the loss of a citizen who has
been actively engaged in promoting her welfare for the last twenty-five
years. Mr. Clough attended service at Trinity Church last Sunday. That evening he
left for a visit to his old home in Centerville, Md. He arrived at that place
Wednesday night at 7 o'clock. He was seized with heart failure and his death
took place four hours later.
Mr. Clough was born at Centerville, Carolina County, Maryland, in 1826. He
received a common school education and then taught school for three years. He
then engaged in farming and stock dealing until 1872, when he moved to
Colorado, arriving in Denver May 19 of that year. Mr. Clough's early knowledge of
the cattle business was put into active use in his new home. He built the
first stockyard in Denver, and turned the cattle trade of the West into this city
Mr. Clough was descended from an old Welsh family whose annals run back to
the rein of Henry VII, and whose present old country representative still
resides in the family mansion, built in Denbeigh, North Wales in 1567. Mr. Clough's
direct ancestors came to New York from Scotland in colonial days. He was a

Hi Nancy,
I don't know if any of your Cloughs "disappeared" or not,
but here are some that were in Shasta Co., CA on the
1860-61 tax Roll:
Clough, A. O. & Bros.
Clough, Abbion C.
Clough, N.
Clough, Samuel
Cathy
And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the
life in
your years.

Hi everyone. Thought I'd share this with the group about Jenny Clow. I'll
keep you posted on the movie and when it's available. Jenny was the daughter
of Andrew Clow of Fife, Scotland. We don't know if she's related or not but
it should be interesting to see a Clow portrayed on the big screen!
Information about Jenny is hard to come by. Rebecca Clough Harpole

SCOTS actress Kathleen McDermott can't wait to see how her face will look for
the new Burns film with Gerard Butler. Kathleen, who plays Burns' lover Jenny
Clow in the multi-million pound biopic which will be filmed in July, has
discovered that her character has a port wine birthmark.
She said: 'My character is a maid in the old days who is embarrassed by her
birthmark. She tends to hide it and doesn't like people looking at her a lot.'
Kathleen, who has starred in Milk and Morvern Callar, hasn't undergone a huge
transformation on screen before now.
She said: 'It will be interesting to see what I look like. Hopefully it'll
help to get me into character. I'll probably have to get up really early, to
make sure it's on the same way."
Hi...
I just found that an ancestors name is Abigail Clough b 10/13/1792 and
that she married Calvin Barrett on 10/16/1811. That makes them my
great great grandparents. I am in the process of making applcation to
the Mayflower Society and I need to find documentation for her birth,
marriage and death. I hope to make a trip to Western MA in a few
weeks and would really appreciate your thoughts on my best approach as
well as any information that you might share.
