Hi All
I know there are some Merrill descendants on this list so I am writing to let
you know of an auction on EBay to do with a Merrill document. EBay item #
2174280361 the auction ends on 5/17/03 current amount is $8 or you can buy
it now for $15. It is a legal document for Eliphalet Merrill and his wife
Sally that pays Parker Merrill Jr a sum of $100. deed is dated 1/22/1816.
Witnessed by Daniel Page and Isiah Palmer. It is all hand written! Look
under "paper, and then documents"

Hello All
I know many of you on this list are not actual members of the John Clough
Society of Salisbury MA., and do not get the bulletins every quarter.
Therefore seeing there is such a lot of talk about Clough sites, and alot of
interest, I am willing to do one large posting to this list (if I should get
enough info on Clough sites) as well as the article I will do for the
bulletin. That way it will all be compiled into one email for every member
on this list.
Like everyone else probably does, I deleted most of the previous emails that
were sent about some of the sites, so I would appreciate it if they could be
resent directly to me again.
thanks. jackie

Hi Sheila, When my sister Chris [Sonia] was visiting a couple years ago she
took a lot of pictures and got information from our library about Cloughs in
Loudon. Maybe she will share these at our reunion. Do you have Dean's
E-mail address? Maybe you could call her. What do you think? Love, Aunt
Sylvia

One more note to all, as bulletin editor I think it would be great if you all
sent me a little blurb of what you have seen and where it is located and I
will write and article for the bulletin on them all. It doesnt have to be
very big, but please make sure you put your names on the email so I can put
that in with it. Please send the notes directly to me as I keep those in a
separate file. Thanks!
Sheila, I do plan on visiting the local Clough sites one of these days soon.
But my free time is now limited as I start my new job on Monday and will have
to work Saturdays. In a couple weeks I will try to get to one or two of
these sites during my day off during the week. To bad we didnt get this
going sooner then I would still be free to make the trips. Oh well.
Have a good weekend all!
And a Happy Mothers Day too!

Sheila & All
Im sure NH will keep the Old Man on the licnese plates, but if not then they
will probably go for the covered bridges which are pretty famous. Somewhere
up there (if Im not mistaken) is a bridge that was originally built by a
Clough! Cant seem to remember where exactly but will look into it further
and let you all know. As Sylvia said, NH is rich in Clough history. jackie

Langdon,
Your idea of creating a New England Clough Interest map is great! Perhaps
more will send you information now that word is out on this list.
Also, maybe we could produce a map of the US with Clough/Cluff sites on it.
For those interested in sending Langdon, Historian of the John Clough
Genealogical Society, Clough related pictures, articles, etc., please see his
US mail address under Executive Board in our bulletins.
A trip to Clough State Park in NH might be a bit far from Haverhill but it is
certainly worth thinking about. Perhaps we could hire a coach. Let us know
what David says.
Keep up the great work you do for the Society! And feel free to post more
information to the list.
Best Wishes,
Sheila
Aunt Sylvia,
PS Sorry about the crumbling of NH's Old Man! I did hear about that on the
news and thought about all of you. I have just been very busy and fighting
illness lately and didn't get around to contacting you.
What will NH put on the license plates now?
Lots of love,
Sheila
Hi Auntie,
I am so pleased you responded on the list! :-)
Yes, I had forgotten about all the Clough places near you. Maybe they should
rename Loudon Cloughville! :-)
When you have some spare time and some film, maybe you can take some pictures
of the signs and send copies to Jackie and Langdon.
It would be really neat to see a big board at our reunions with pictures of
Clough/Cluff sites from across the country!
Lots of love to you and Byron,
Sheila
Oh, hell, I may as well weigh in on all these road messages....if I recall
correctly, there is a Clough St in Reno NV (when Tom and I were getting
married and I had to copy off maps for everyone, I saw it and highlighted it
on my mom's map). A second Clough St is in Quincy CA (about an hour and a
half from Reno in Plumas County. I should verify all this...just to be
accurate. So I will see what I can produce map-wise.
I've gotta say, it's been awfully quiet on the Clough-Gen List until this
week, what a firestorm of activity!!!
Hello to all you kinfolk out there!!
Susan (Green) Clack
Your Right-wing cousin on the Left Coast ;-)
Since the mention of Clough Road has generated so much interest among the clan, I would be happy to act as a gathering point for information on Clough placenames.
Actually the study of placenames has been used to document the movements of particular ethnic groups and cultural ideas around the globe.
A couple of years ago I announced that I was trying to compile a map of places of interest to Cloughs in New England so that the Society could publish a map which might make life a little more interesting for our out-of-state relatives visiting the reunions. I went through all of the published Bulletings and recorded several sites of significance but never received any more information from the members so I put it on the back burner.
If Clough State Park is generating interest, perhaps we should plan a field trip there from the reunion in Haverille. What do you think Mr. President?
Langdon
Nancy,
Thank you very much for sharing the URL for Cluff Ranch Wildlife Area! :-)
Jackie,
If you get a chance to visit please take photos of the sign(s). Perhaps you
can put the photos in the bulletin as well! :-)
Thanks!
Sheila
