Hi Jackie,
I have asked David Lewis to please make arrangements for this years reunion
since it is too expensive here and I don't have anymore time left to search
for some place else. Feel free to contact him if he does not contact you. I
reminded him of the bulletin deadline as well.
Hope you are well! :-)

Good Morning Everyone!
I have now caught up on any lost sleep and am back into the swing of things!
:-)
My trip to England was a business trip to Oxford Ancestors. I arrived Sunday
(Feb. 10) morning and enjoyed a pleasant drive to Sandford-on-Thames (just
south of Oxford) via my driver. Never had a driver before! Great feeling!
:-)
One of the women from the Oxford Ancestors office was kind enough to pick me
up at my hotel (nearly right across the street from the office) that morning
and bring me into Oxford. We enjoyed a bus tour of the city with her 11
month old son. :-) I felt a pang of loneliness when we went by the places
I had been in October with the group. My memories flooded back to being
there with the group and having tea/coffee and sandwiches while Dr. Sykes
spoke to us and then gave us our test results. That was the beginning of my
new adventure with Oxford Ancestors.
After being dropped off at my hotel in the early afternoon I decided to take
a walk in order to tire myself enough that I would want to go to sleep 5
hours earlier than usual. I ended up walking about 5 miles on back roads and
slipping and sliding on the muddy banks of the Thames River. It was
wonderful to be back in England and be nearer the origin of the Thames but I
think my mud covered sneakers would have preferred being anywhere else.
After returning to my room and removing my very muddy sneakers and jeans I
sat down to enjoy some English TV. It was then that I became very homesick.
I missed my basic cable TV. I am used to being able to choose from more than
10 channels.
The next morning another woman from the office picked me up and brought me to
the offices of Oxford Ancestors. Their quarters, at the moment, are small
but they are moving within the next 2 months to more spacious quarters.
I spent Monday and Tuesday brainstorming with Dr. David Ashworth, CEO of
Oxford Ancestors, as well as learning a great deal more about how and why DNA
works. The two days were quite productive. I am now looking forward to
working on developing my presentation with their outside source who happens
to be quite good at creating presentations and turning difficult scientific
information into something much more digestible to the average layman.
Wednesday morning I was able to spend a short time in the office clearing up
last minute details until my driver came to collect me. A pleasant ride to
Heathrow was followed by many security checks before actually getting onto my
plane 3 hours later. My neighbor on the plane is a science reporter for 'The
Times' in London! Apparently there is a science convention in Boston for the
next several days. He has spoken to Dr. Sykes in the past and may be
interested in doing an article on Oxford Ancestors at some point.
Now that I am home I have to catch up on my work so if I don't get back to
someone right away you will know why. Also, I will be having my surgery Feb.
20 so I will be totally out of commission for at least several days. Jackie
is kind enough to take the reigns of CLOUGH-GENEALOGY-L while I am unable to.
If anyone has any questions about Oxford Ancestors, the DNA tests, my trip,
etc., please feel free to contact me!

Hello Group!
I am back safe and sound from England. After I have had a good nights rest
in my own bed and can think once again I shall get back to you about how my
trip went. Since I have been up for 20 hours I can only imagine what an
e-mail from me might look like if I tried getting into any details here and
now. :-)
Hope everyone is well! :-)
Kindest Regards,
Sheila

Hello Group! :-)
As you read in Jackie's note, I am leaving tomorrow for the UK to do a couple
days training at Oxford Ancestors. Jackie can access the lists website and
make any needed changes while I am gone. I will be home Wednesday evening
(Feb. 13).
Sorry to say, I will miss seeing Rebecca since she left England today and is
now in the US for a week. What timing! Oh, well.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll let you know how things go when I
get back! :-)

Hello One and All,
A couple of things to note. First off, Sheila is busy getting ready for her
trip to England for training (or has already left). So if you have any
problems or concerns you can contact me as I told her I would watch the list
for her while she was away. She was supposed to send a note to the list to
let you know this, but Im sure with all she had to do it slipped her mind.
Becky - if you see her ask her to email me ok? Thanks.
Next I got the other book in, its not the one I thought I ordered but it
does list more info in it so I am going to post what is in there for the
Clough/Cluff name.
Hope I dont mess it up to badly, just got a new pair of glasses and I
amhaving a bit of trouble getting used to them (grin)

Dear Cousins,
Didn't know about this. A sister of > Charles Phillip Ingalls, father of
> Laura Elizabeth Ingalls of "Little House" book fame, married a Clough:
Lydia Louise Ingalls, born 1838; died 1913. She married (1) Isaiah Clough
before 1857. She married (2) Joseph Stouff 1859.

So which one of you out there is related?

Linda & All
Yes I am aware that our John was supposed to be a carpenter not a tailor.
There was a John in Boston who was a tailor - I believe. I am not saying
this data is correct, I was just giving word for word of what was in this
book. Out of all the Johns in the book that one was the only one who went to
Salisbury, MA. Maybe when I get this other book I will have more
information. What I sent wasnt meant to confuse, but to question. jackie

I thought our John Clough was a carpenter, and there was a different John
Clough in Watertown who was a tailor?
Your secret cousin,

Hello All
I recently purchased a book called the Directory of the Ancestrial Heads of
New England Families......
Below is what was listed for the Clough surname.
CLOUGH/CLUFF From Anglo-Saxon, a small valley between hills, a breach; from
the participle cleofian to cleave, divide.
EBENEZER was at Boston, MA., 1690
JOHN, tailor, b. Eng. 1613, came to Watertown, MA., 1635; removed to
Salisbury, MA 1639.
JOHN, resident of Charlestown, MA 1652
JOHN, freeman at Hartford, CT., 1654
RICHARD, was at Plymouth, MA 1634
WILLIAM, resident of Charlestown, MA., before 1659
Now, this makes me wonder if "our" John actually went to Plymouth to visit a
relative at sometime before going to Salisbury. There, meeting "Jane/Jone"
and marrying her there. I do know that in Plymouth there were several
Jane/Jones listed. Has anyone checked that direction to possibly find her
maiden name????
On another note, if there is a name you want verified as a head of household
then please feel free to email me and I will check it out in this b ook.
Another thing to note is I also have another book coming that is much bigger
and lists spouses and children of New England Families as well as other data
(like dates). Maybe what we are seeking will be in this book that should be
here by the end of the week.

Hello George,
I just finished talking to my Mom on the phone and relayed your reply
regarding Meribah Ring. Mom says that she believes the Meribah you refer to
is 3rd generation. She was just looking at the Hoyt book last week and
restudied the pages 297 and 298. The Meribah we all need is 4th generation.
3rd generation Meribah is probably an Aunt. Mom thinks our Meribah was
perhaps born in Poplin, NH.

Hello Liz,
I do have some info on Meribah. Her father was John Ring and his parents
were Robert Ring and Elizabeth _______ (Hoyt pg. 297 and 298). Her mother
was Priscilla Norton (Hoyt pg. 266 - 267) whos parents were Joseph Norton
(Hoyt pg. 266 - 267) and Susan Getchell (Hoyt pg. 173). Susan's father was
Samuel Getchell (Hoyt pg. 173).
I hope this helps?
Cousin George

Dear Cousins,
Isn't this FANTASTIC news for Rebecca?!?! :-) I was overjoyed when she told
me the good news and I am so happy she has written to the list to let all of
you know! :-)
Rebecca has done extensive research in England and Wales in the last several
years. It was her research that was the basis of the 'walk-about' in London
in October and it was thanks to her research that we know where several
Clough related places are in Wales. She has kindly spent her own hard earned
money funding this research.
It was thanks to Rebecca finding out about Oxford Ancestors and their DNA
testing that we now know which Clough family we are connected to! You can
just imagine how we all felt sitting at Oxford University and hearing the DNA
test results from Dr. Bryan Sykes! Not much compares with it! :-) All of
us descended from John Clough of Salisbury, MA, owe Rebecca a huge debt of
gratitude now that we know a portion of our ancestry.
It is very clear that DNA testing will continue to help in genealogical
research so I am very happy that I may assist in this by working for Oxford
Ancestors. Again, it is thanks to Rebecca and her efforts that I have this
new opportunity.
I, for one, am VERY pleased that Rebecca seems to have found her Clough
link!! She certainly deserves this wonderful news, especially after all of
her efforts! I know everyone that was on our trip in October will be VERY
happy for Rebecca as well as everyone on this list! :-)
Congratulations Rebecca!! Keep up the great work!! :-)
Lots of love,
Sheila
