My grandmother was Mary Annie Cloud Hill. Her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Shumate Hill (called Murr), married a second time to Henry Cloud, whom Mary Annie claimed was not related to her family. My mother, daughter of Mary Annie's youngest daughter Lelia, tells me that she grew up hearing the tale of the Clouds being Indian, but in looking through the papers she had from her mother, it appears the Indian may have been Henry Cloud who married Murr. However, no tribe is mentioned, only that his father was Old Chief Red Cloud.
For a couple of years I have been looking for Henry Cloud's parentage and I can find no evidence at all that Henry Cloud was Indian of any kind, but was in fact another branch of the Cloud family in Tennessee. The Cloud family is pretty well documented as arriving with William Penn's fleet of ships and were Quakers.
I found an Ancestry tree that has a page from a book that describes William Henry Cloud's ancestry and first wife and family, but it's only one page and there' s no info about where the page came from.
I am looking to connect (or prove Indian heritage of) the 2 Cloud families in my tree and would appreciate any help in tracking down documentation.

If you have a constant son to son to son line, you can take a DNA test. It pinpoints things very well. I wish we could do it but we are a daughter-rich branch.

Hello,
I am searching for the person who originally supplied the photograph of Sophronia Cloud (Carswell) Chapman that appears here on ancestry in the photographs section.
I was told it was a decendent of Chapmans from Sophronia's second marriage.
Mainly i'd like to ask the person for a higher quality scan of the old photograph. The one that appears is too small, and shows very little detail. It's hard to even see Sophronia's face.
This photo is quite interesting to me since I come from the Carswell side of her family. Are there any other photos of her out there???
please email me at amoore(a)nnpstv.com
Thanks so much!
