Does anyone have any information on Robert Cloud who (came?) to Virginia in 1643? Vol. 2 of the "Early Virginia Families Along the James River", lists him as being "transported" to acres by the James River.

I just spent the last several hours going through almost the entire Cloud thread(s). And while I found several that may show a link, I didn't see any about the line I'm researching. *So sorry if this has been asked and answered and I missed it.
My great-great grandmother was Leah or Lela Alice Cloud. DOB about 1861 I believe in or around Vernon County Missouri. She died very young, probably about 1893.
She was the daughter of Edward Jacob Cloud dob 16 July 1833 in Clairborne County, TN and died 4 July 1912 in Missouri.
Siblings were Henry Abner Franklin Cloud 1857-1924, James Walker Cloud and Mary Elizabeth 1862-1939.
Married Charles Henry Clark.
I too am very interested in confirming an Indian connection.

I suggest that you take a visit to Calne which is not too far from Devizes. My wife and I visited both back in the 90s. Some Clouds came from Calne also.
My family is from William Jr ,Joseph, Anderson J cloud in South Carolina. Anderson J. was my father's grandfather.
Also Anderson J's sister Jane Cloud Mckey was Doc Holiday's grandmother. We did a driving tour of Devizes and surrounding areas looking through cemeteries but found nothing to speak of on the Clouds there which has not already been posted on the net. Have a nice trip. Franklin

My mother was a Cloud, and I am descended from the brother of Alamo hero Daniel William Cloud. Thanks so much to the people who did so much research and were able to trace my line back to Southbroom House Devizes Wiltshire England. This is 250 years earlier than we have been able to trace my father's side (Ulster Scot from N Ireland), and is staggering to think this was only a decade after Columbus' voyage.
I read on the internet (google/wiki Southbroom) that during the time our ancestors were there the house belonged to John Drew beginning in 1501. Drew made his fortune as a Clothier in Devon, England and since there are many Cloud(e)s still in Devonshire, I'm speculating that greatgrandpa William's parents came with Drew from that same area. After several generations of "born Southbroom House, Devizes" later, it is coincidental that when the Drew family no longer own Southbroom house, the Cloudes have moved elsewhere also.
What I'm asking of anyone reading this is do you have any information about William including anything relating to John Drew. I will be in Devizes next month (Sep 2013) and hope to spend some time at the Wiltshire Heritage Museum. I contacted them several months ago and they said that they had nothing but if I gave them a direction they may find something.
Also coincidentally I will first be visiting the real Downton Abbey of Highclere House just a few hours east of there. I'm guessing that possibly our ancestors could have been part of the house staff.
Thanks for any help,
Lee Gilbreath, Houston, TX, 10Aug2013
