My mother is Ples Jefferson's granddaughter. We are trying to find out information on Sara Cloud and Steven Richardson. We are looking into the possibility of an Indian Role Number.
I would appreciate anything you can give me

I'm afraid I don't really have any information concerning Solomon Cloud outside of his connection to our family lines through Angeletta (May -- which was really her maiden name although she used it as her given name from 1910 until the end of her life). All the information I had at the time concerning this family I sent to Tom and I believe it is now on his Cloud family website.
Since that time I have narrowed the date of their marriage to the end of July (I know they were issued the license on the 29th of July in 1917 based on a "Twenty Years Ago Today" article found in the Beatrice Daily Sun on 30 July 1937) or sometime in August of 1917.
I noticed that you mentioned you had at least seen the marriage license of Solomon and May Lemmon. Would you be willing to share that document?
Since Solomon is not a direct line ancestor for me, I haven't really concentrated on much of anything past his connection to Angeletta but we do have memories recorded of some of the step-grandchildren of visiting this couple during the short time they lived in St Joseph, Mo. Mostly the memory consists of Solomon sitting out under the tree in their yard and telling the kids that he was "really old and an indian".
It sounds as though you've done a lot of work on this line. I know that he served in the union army during the civil war. The card from the index of pension applications is available here on ancestry. There may also be something that would help as a great deal of information (whether it would have his parents or not, I can't say)The actual files themselves are at the main branch of the archives in Washington. You probably already are aware of this, but the 1920 census transcription here has him as Solomon CLOWD. The step-grandchildren remember his saying he was indian
I can provide information on the family with Angeletta (they, of course, didn't have any children but I could provide information on Angie's children which would be Solomon's step children)if you are interested in that.
I don't know where you are located or what research areas you've been to, but I will be in Beatrice for a few hours around the first of October and visiting both the courthouse and library there if you would like me to do a couple of look-ups in that area. I may also be able to do some work in St. Joseph, Mo (although there probably won't be much on Solomon since the time he spent there was very short)

Solomon Cloud b. 2/10/1832 White County, IL
I have also been wanting to know who the parents of Solomon Cloud are. I recently came across a news article in the Beatrice Daily Sun dated 1/29/1928 where Solomon mentioned a brother William who died years ago in California. He also says he and his brother were thrown out when they were mere children. When asked the name of his parents he could not recall. He could not recall the name of his first wife (Elizabeth Crim) when asked either.
In the marriage certificate of Solomon Cloud and Mrs. May Lemmon he lists his father's last name as Cloud and his mothers maiden name as Moody. However there are no first names. In the 1880 census for Nuckolls County, Nebraska he says his father's birth place is in Wisconsin. However in others without exception he says his father was born in Illinois.
As I look at the names of some of his children/grandchildren I see names such as Albert, Daniel, Henry Daniel, William and John Cherry Cloud. Because he once lived in De Witt County as did Albert Daniel Cloud his father Daniel Cloud I can't help think there is a connection there. But even with this branch information is hard to come by.
I also see Solomon Cloud was listed in the 1850 census with a family by the name of Diffenbaugh, but what is notable to me is the presence of a William Cherry, with John Cherry Cloud being his first born son. Looking in the census records for White County, Illinois I see a number of persons by the last name of Cherry. I am though unable to make a connection. I also note a Howell Cherry in the same age range of Solomon married to a Sarah Moody the maiden name of Solomon's mother. Again I can't make a connection and I have also paid attention to the last name Mooney as in the obituary of Albert Daniel Cloud there is a James Mooney listed as a pallbearer.
In the area of White County is Gallatin County. There we find William C Cloud in the 1840 census record for Gallatin County. There is also another William Cloud found in Jackson County through marriage records dated 1845 to an Anna Owens-Owings. Could this be the brother of Solomon? Although I have not looked very hard in that direction, yet, he disappears from that point on. Maybe this is the WWilliam Alexander Cloud referenced below.
I know that Aaron Cloud is the son of William C Cloud and other researchers say that Silas Cloud is also the son of William C. Cloud. Although others say William Alexander Cloud is the father of Aaron and Silas. In my own research I have not yet found reference to a William Alexander Cloud. In the web site "find a grave" I do find reference to William Cloud 1801-1841 and then his wife Elizabeth 1800-1872 buried in Gallitin County. I thought does Solomon somehow fit in here. But I ask myself why is he not listed with his mother in another census. I suppose it would help if there was documentation regarding a will for William C Cloud if such a thing exists.
Again grasping at straws I see in the 1865 census for McClean County listed above and below Solomon is the last name Buck. Respectively Thomas and Hiram. Hiram I learned is the father of Thomas. Somewhere I came across information for a John Buck Cloud, again I am unable to make a connection.
Then one of Solomon's sons "Solomon Burd Cloud" has the middle name "Burd". In at least one family tree I see a Cloud - Burd connection but nothing that gets me to Solomon.
In the end without anything concrete all that is left is circumstantial evidence, grasping at straws, theories and playing name games.
Regarding William who died in California I haven't been able to make any connection there either. I do see a William and John or James Cloud occupation miners in one California census. There are also several William Clouds listed in voter records. I am have only found reference to a couple who died there. Again unable to establish a connection. Hopefully one of these days the dots will start to connect. My hope is by posting this someone can.
