Janet,
You know me ? and can write me directly ... why do you want a DNA test? ... your CLOUD line goes back to William CLOUDE the immigrant through his son Jeremiah who m. Elizabeth BAILEY.
There are several types of tests one can do, but the most effective is the Y-chromosome test and it is passed from father to son, so your sons would only possess the THEBERGE Y-chromosome. There is a Help and a FAQ on the Cloud DNA Project site and I also posted to the CFA FaceBook page.
BTW, I wrote you that my daughter was looking for a teaching job ... she found one in Odessa.

Thanks so much for responding to my post.
This is all very interesting information. I do have male members in my family. How close a relation does is have to be to do a dna test? I have two sons who might be willing, but right now we have very little money to spend on the test. I will look into it and see what it will take.

One other observation. Paulina BREITEN's parents were from Germany. They lived in Medina cty, TX and Paulina was born there in 1868. On the 1850 Medina cty census is a John CLOUD b. circa 1833 in Germany. The John CLOUD who married Paulina was born about 32 years later. Is he the son of this earlier John CLOUD? It would make sense that German immigrants would stick together. A DNA test of one of the CLOUD male descendants would tell us a lot about that. If you know any of them and can convince them to do that, please contact me.

I spent a lot of time researching this family, along with another man who is a descendant. There are some living CLOUD male descendants, if at least one of them would join the CLOUD DNA Project, we could at least know which CLOUD line John CLOUD (your Joe CLOUD) was from.
The company that does the tests is having a sale now.
The Project is at:

The Cloud Family Association has a FaceBook page at:

Well this is very interesting to find "your" Cloud possibly blending with our "lost" Cloud. My great grandmother Pauline Breiten from Texas was married to Joe Cloud in the 1880s in Texas. They had two children Annie and Louis both dark skinned, possible Indian or Mexican. My Gma was white and German/Texas background Mary Fehrman/Benfer. Joe disappeared in the 1894-7 into Mexico at Eagle Pass Tx / Pegras Negras,MX.........then nothing? Pauline married # 2 guy John Fehrman added two (twin) children Mary and Johnny Ferhman in 1898 and lived by then in or near San Antonio and out skirting communities. Later Pauline married Fred ?fritz Matke, she died in the 1930s. This is a big story, as Annie Cloud married a baseball player in the 1910s , had one son,as Annie strolled home from a store, her jealous husband thought she was with a man, he walked up the sidewalk and shot Annie point blank range , killed her in front of their son. That son grew up with his bio dad, had a son that is!
a big wig hunting outfit here and has Texas Throphy Hunter Magazine and books hunts etc.
I have photos of the Cloud kids at 8 and 12ish. Uncle Louis Cloud married and had a nice business in San Antonio, he has surviving children and grandkids.

Hi Debbie, the Red Cloud I am looking for was born around 1842 in Okla. and lived in Steubenville Ohio untill his death around 1968 or so. It is a hard search because there are several Red Cloud. The one I am researching was married at least 3 times that I know of. I am sure there are more wives, but don't know where else to search. Upon his death it was said that he was the father of 32 children, I know of only 15 , and several of them were adopted. Thank you for writing, but I think we have 2 seperate men

I, too, am researching Chief Red Cloud. Do you have any information on a William Redcloud or Jerome Redcloud? They were in Wakapala, Corson County, South Dakota in 1918. Am not sure what their relationship really was, but William was listed as next of kin of Jerome on his WWI draft registration. I had heard that Jerome was kicked off the reservation. Why would that be? If you have any information on William or Jerome or even possible connections to Chief Red Cloud, please contact me. Thanks.
Debbie

Ken,
I have seen your great web site, but I'm missing some things. I did find
Elizabeth Nobles married to Daniel in the Huntsville History Collection
(AL). however, the Old Swedes Church record has ONE Daniel the right age
married to Sarah Walley. Where did you get the wife's name?
Everyone on line has Daniel born ca. 1755 in Caroline Co., VA. Where did
that come from? I have a copy of the will, so I know he died before 1811,
but Where??
Thanks so much,
Janie

This web site is from ludchurch England. Pictures can be seen from web address at end of article. A 1200ft tall hill known as the Cloud dominates the Cheshire plain and is visible for miles around. One of the meanings of the word "Cloud" is thought to be derived from Anglo-Saxon or Old English word for "Clud" meaning a mass of rock, there again there is another possibility as the Welsh word for earthworks is "Clawdd" pronounced "Clowd", it is possible that this word is Celtic and refers to the British hill fort that used to exist on this hill. I have also heard the use of the word "Cloud" as as meaning high place, but I think in this instance that it refers to the fort that once used to be here. This hill at one time would have looked out over the sea, as the Cheshire plain would at one time have been under water and this hill would have been one of the high places in the area which would have remained above sea level. The various types of people who have inhabited the Cloud over thousands of years are firstly thought to have been the Battle Axe people of early Nordic strain, who spread to the West from the Caspian sea area, and who built the Bridestones 4000 years ago, although for the first thousand years it would not have born this name. The second type of people who were said to have inhabited the Cloud were known as the Beaker people, they came from the Rhineland and settled on the South Staffordshire Moorlands and in the Peak District. These people were known as the "Armenoid Race". Thirdly the Goidels or Gaels arrived in 1100 B.C., before they eventually moved on to Scotland and Ireland, it was probably these people who were responible for building the fort that used to exist on the Cloud. The fourth type of people that were said to have lived on the Cloud were Brythons, or Ancient Britons who have left ample evidence in this area from the many place names that can be linked back to them.....The web page is... http://ludchurchmyblog.wordpress.com/places-of-interest-in-cheshire/the-c...
