Yes I have tested with both 23andMe(Relative Finder) and Family Tree DNA (Family Finder). Combined that means over 800,000 SNP's. The thing now is I have to locate all those cousins. I couldn't find any males in my McDonald line to have tested. The McDonald Surname Study on FTDNA is their largest and the web page really breaks the clans down.
I checked the "Squire" Clouds you mentioned from Tennessee and Missouri and from the dates and areas given on their web pages I couldn't connect him to my Squire Cloud. It would help if I knew another name for him! The other Talitha/Tabitha Cloud that married Isaac Cantrell in North Carolina died in South Carolina so I couldn't connect her family either.
Thanks for your input!

Donald,
FYI -- two companies (that I know of) offer autosomal DNA tests -- Family Tree DNA and 23andMe. FTDNA's test is known as Family Finder "FF" and 23andMe's test is known as Relative Finder "RF".
WRT Squire Cloud -- do you have any other information? I can't find anyone with what you have given.
"Squire" was a nickname many people used, including Cloud men. Calvin Morgan Cloud (1820-1884) and his son Edward Calvin Cloud (1871-1944) were both known as "Squire" Cloud. They lived in Tennessee and Missouri.

The thread mentions the Trail of Tears. That forced movement of the Indians was in 1838-39, forcing them out of Georgia to Oklahoma. Given that Squire and Margaret show up in Alabama in 1850 with the two daughters of Squire, it seems unlikely to me that the family story is true in that regard. Fadora seems to have lived with her father, and then perhaps her stepmother alone (depending on when Squire died), up to the point of her first marriage. Also, she was born in Alabama 1837-1838, according to the censuses, not Georgia. Not to mention that Squire seems like an unusual name or nickname for an Indian chief. In 1870 and 1880, when "Indian" became a category in the race column, Margaret, Fadora and all had race reported as white. Not that there were never lies about this in the census.... But all told, I'm skeptical of the theories that they were Native American. In 1880, Fadora's entry says that her father was born in NC, which agrees with the 1850 entry for Squire, and that her mother (Squire's first wife) was born in South Carolina.
In 1840, William G. Falkner and Margaret Parker (Squire's wife in 1850) are on adjacent properties in Randolph County, AL. Margaret has a female child in the age bracket 0-5 years of age. At Rootsweb, I found a tree that says that Fadora was an adopted child of Squire's. If this is correct, she could be the child of the first marriage of Margaret Parker, and not a blood descendant of Squire Parker. Who knows....
Going on on a limb, based on the census entry for Margaret McLeod in the 1866 Alabama state census: In 1840, there is a "Daniel McLead" in Shelby County, who is still there in 1880 as McLoud, giving his father's birthplace as Scotland and his mother's as North Carolina. There is a McLeod family that came early to North Carolina from Skye, and ended up in Alabama.... So if "Squire" was Daniel's brother....

Not that it helps with finding Squire's parents, but in the 1860 census, his second wife and daughter "C" (Calvina) appear twice. Once as Margrett and C, next to James and Fadora, and also as Peggy and C, next to a Falkner family. So it looks as if Squire died between 1850 and 1860. Margaret and Calvina appear in 1870, also. In the 1866 Alabama state census, Mrs. Margaret McLeod and Perredora McDaniel are heads of household of consecutive entries.

Thanks for the info. My great Grandfather was Robert S Mcdonald. His daughter said the S was for Squire. Then I found out his mother was Fadora Cloud, the daughter of "Squire Cloud. The census record shows "Squire" Cloud was born in North Carolina in abt 1806 so thats why I checked the 1810 and 1820 N. C Census for Clouds. In Rutherford County there were three brothers that had males in there households of the right age. I picked Joel because he was shown as Esquire. Not much information to go on! One of Squire's daughter was Tabitha and another Calvinia. In my Clark tree I have a Tabitha Cloud marring a in South Carolina and she descends from Jeremiah Cloud. Andrew Jackson went to Mississippi Territory with his Tennessee Militia in 1811 and 1814. After he defeated the Creeks at Horseshoe Bend in 1814 ( War Of 1812) he forced the Indians to cede millions of acres to the Govt. Many of his troops moved from TN to the area for
cheap land.

My wife's g-grandfather was James Washington Cloud. He appears in 1830-1832 in Delaware Co, IN, then to Wabash County, IN after 1840; then before 1865 to Madison Co, IN. That line has native American blood as well. James was born in PA in 1800. Could there be a possible match?

I haven't been able to do much research since I don't have a computer of my own. I use the one at work to communicate and that is why it is so hard to find out anything. But this last group of information that I have seems like I might have some hope of finding out where all of my family originated from. My father was a twin also. His sister's name was Ida Cloud and she married a man whose last name was Hansen. They lived in Decatur, Illinois. My father's name was Lee Roy Cloud they were twins born on 4/09/1883.

I believe you will find these Clouds came up from KY when the federal government began selling land in Indiana.
My wife's mother was a Cloud and I met her in Indiana. They originated in the Cumberland Gap area i.e.
Lee County, VA; Claiborne County, TN; and Harlan County, KY.

I would like to know who Irene's parents were. According to her obituary, she served in the Women's Air Corps for the United Kingdom during WW-II. She and Lloyd Cloud of Bradley cty, Arkansas had a son Phillip Lloyd Cloud (1945). They must have divorced prior to 1959 as Lloyd married Viola Ruth Knight that year.

I am looking for info on Ben Cloud born 1750 in Anson NC. His father was William Cloud by 1728 in SC. I have Ben's wife as Mary Elisabeth Morgan. I also have a William Cloud with the same spouse so I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.
Also is anyone else having trouble with World Connect? It's not working.
