I am trying to track the family of Mordecai and Rhoda (Richards) Cloud. They married 1753 Swedes Church, Wilimington Delaware. Children as identified in the Cloud genealogy by Neal are as follows
Children
1. Lydia CLOUD
2. Elizabeth CLOUD
3. Jehu CLOUD
4. Joseph CLOUD, b. Abt 1754
Then I believe the children below were included in an online family group record:
5. William CLOUD, b. Abt 1755
6. Daniel CLOUD, b. 1755
7. John CLOUD, b. Abt 1770, Chester Co., PA
There is some discussion on line about whether the Mordecai who married Rhoda Richards is the one whose will is probated 1789 in Frederick Co. Virginia. And several sites that just copy that as a given. One site says he is the nephew of the Mordecai who married Rhoda.
The will of the Mordecai Cloud who died 1789 in Frederick names wife Judith and children John, Henry, Noah, Daniel, Jonathan, Nancy and Elizabeth.
Does anyone know what happened to the Mordecai Cloud who married Rhoda Richards?

Stephanie,
This is not my line and I don't know anything about it, but I was told that my grandmother was 3/4 Cherokee. My aunts were the best family historians I knew (about 20 years ago). Since I began my own research, I have had to discard some information I was told, and that was part of it. I have proven my grandmother Cloud's lines back to Scotland -- not a drop of American Indian blood in it. I even found where the family lore began -- with her sisters who applied for citizenship in the Cherokee Nation and from the probate of the estate of one of those sisters who married a Choctaw man.
A possible clue to your family story is the word "princess". So far as I can determine, no American Indian tribe had any such title, and the use of it is a recurring theme in many families that believe themselves to have Indian ancestry.
One reason my family thought they were Indian was due to the last name "CLOUD". They didn't know the name originated in Europe (first occurrence we know of was in England in the 13th century).
You may prove your family oral history to be correct, but there might be some false information there as well.
There are many people who have researched the Cloud family (including the many who wrote the previous response) and they would be glad to work with you, myself included. I suggest you join the rootsweb email list / forum and seek help there. You might also consider joining the Cloud Family Association:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/
There is a reunion or "Gathering" sponsored by the Cloud Family Association coming up this July in Charleston, SC and you will definitely find some help there). I would like to see you there if you can make it.
http://mykindred.com/cloud/CFG/2010/
There is also an international project dedicated to researching the origins of the Cloud surname -- a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies:
http://www.one-name.org/profiles/cloud.html
Another option might be taking a DNA test. That can't tell you who is the ancestor with the Indian blood, but it might at least tell you if you have any of that heritage at all. It could save you a lot of time and money barking up the wrong tree. The Cloud DNA Project probably can't help you with the test, but you can find information there:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/
One last idea -- I believe there is a FaceBook group dedicated to the Cloud family though I don't have available a link to it.
I would like to add your family to the data at http://mykindred.com/ . That will give it wider exposure and help you find others researching it. You can send it to my email address which is available by clicking on my user name above (tom_cloud) or by clicking on the "Board Information" link under "Page Tools" to the right of this message.

She is not Indian. She lived in the Bainbridge, Decatur GA area.
Her parents were from South Carolina. I believe the Edgefield area. Between 1830 and 1840 all Indians and mixed blood citizens were rounded up and removed to OK. It has been a long time since I researched this family so I can't remember the parents name.
