My great-great-great-grandmother was Rebecca (variously spelled Rebeka, Rebekah) Cloud Hall of Warren County, VA. She was born on March 14, 1789. Her father was Daniel Cloud, who was born on February 8, 1755. I have found conflicting records concerning her mother, marriage date and husband. I would be very interested if anyone could help me.
In the Cloud family genealogy collected by Rachel Adams (Cloud) Pond and Clifton Ray Pond in 1961, Rebecca is listed as the daughter of Daniel Cloud's first wife, Nancy Jennings (b. 1760, death date uncertain). The Ponds report that Daniel Cloud married as his second wife, Elizabeth (Branson) Hampton, on February 6, 1792.
However, in the Mordecai Cloud and Rebecca Hickman Cloud family Bible, no first wife is mentioned and Rebecca is listed as the daughter of Daniel's (second) wife, Elizabeth Branson Hampton. This is reinforced by an article entitled the "Old Settlers of Warren Co." published in the Warren Sentinel in 1920, which said that Rebecca's two granddaughters, Mary Richardson Hall Trout and Virginia Gibbs Hall Jackson, were descendents of Elizabeth Branson.
Does anyone have verifiable marriage dates for Daniel Cloud's first and second marriages?
In addition, there seems to be a mystery as to the origin of Rebecca's husband, Richard Hall, whom she married on May 8, 1808. He died on July 28, 1826, age 40. I can find no trace of his actual birth date or place. Also, although he bought a mill and farmstead from Thomas A. Allen in 1821, I can find no mention of his career from 1808 to 1821.

Randy,
I found the below information tonight on ancestry.com. I have sent a letter to the AGBI and also to you. I am not sure how all this works but I am hopeful we can maybe confirm out Joseph is indeed the same one who fought with Col. Moses Hazen at Valley Forge. This is the first record I have found for our Joseph that he was a Revolutionary War soldier so I am very hopeful we can get more confirmation. Please let me know what you think of my find tonight. In May 1777, Hazen's regiment was ordered to join the main army at Princeton, where it was active in the Philadelphia campaign as part of John Sullivan's brigade. Some of Hazen's companies (but not Hazen himself) participated in the Battle of Staten Island; in this action, Captain Antill was captured.[36] Hazen's command during the Battle of Brandywine included the northern end of the American line; this position was one of those flanked by the British in their attack. Hazen's regiment lost 4 officers and 73 men in the battle.[38] In the Battle of Germantown, Hazen commanded a brigade that included in addition to his own regiment, the 2nd, 4th, and 6th Maryland Regiments.[39] They formed part of Sullivan's column when it marched on the town; his regiment lost 3 officers and 19 men in the engagement.[40]

Anyone have any ideas who this lady is -- her tombstone is at findagrave:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=cloud&GSiman=1&GSci...
The transcription reads Jeannie -- but the tombstone and clearly shows Jennie CLOUD 1871-1918.
She is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma ... this is the same area my Clouds lived in and the same time frame, but I can't place her in my family tree.
She could be Jennie Belle Cloud -- d/o Jeremiah Thomas Cloud and Nancy Ellen Hargrave. She died unmarried and I have a dob of 1872 and a dod of 1913 in TX ... but she was in Pottawatomie county, OK for the 1910 census, so maybe my data is off a little.
She could be the lady I have as Jeannette CLEMENTS, wife of Stephen Thurston Cloud. I have that she died circa 1912 in Custer cty, OK and Stephen was remarried by 1920.
thanks,
Tom Cloud
