Frank,
I do not know anything about the families you mention, but I'd like to know what you discover. Please keep us informed and tell us if you run across any additional leads.
Most of the people who subscribe to this list are focused on the American branches of the CLOUD family, but I'd like to see us expand beyond this as we're probably all related through European ancestors.
sincerely,
Tom Cloud

Greetings all
My first posting to the list. Don't yet know if I have any CLOUD ancestors,
but it seems likely. While trying to trace my HANNAH family, I keep running
into the name CLOUD, used as a given name. There must have been a
significant connection between the two families.
First reference, (IGI): Cloud Edmund HANNAH, bapt. 8 July 1833, St.Peter,
Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Parents: Thomas and Helen HANNAH.
Second ref, 1841 England census: Cloud HANNAH, 8yrs, living in Bristol,
England. In the same household: Thomas HANNAH, 25 and Helen HANNAH, 35.
(Ages on the 1841 census were often rounded up or down to the nearest 5
yrs.)
I think this was the same family moving from Leeds to Bristol.
A Thomas and Helen HANNAH migrated to the Cape Colony, South Africa,
sometime in the 1840s. One of their children born there was Catherine. She
married a man with the surname of DAW. One of her sons (born 1874) was named
Thomas CLOUD DAW. He, in turn, named one of his own sons Thomas CLOUD DAW.
Someone was serious about keeping the CLOUD connection alive. Wish I knew
who, and why. Any suggestions or clues would be welcome.
Best wishes

I find them in 1830 and 1840 Census in Plattekill, Ulster Co.,NY area and then dont find them at all. I know its her name because I found her tombstone in Plattekill.,Ulster Co.,NY cemetery . And the tombstone is sinking straight in . Leslie,
Have you found out anything further about your Mary Eliza Cloud?
I have looked in my data (I have over two dozen ladies named Mary Eliza/Elizabeth) and don't find anything, but she could be there under Mary E. or Eliza, etc.
There are two primary places you might look -- Ken Cloud's web site:
http://cloudgenweb.com/
... and
http://mykindred.com/
You can answer your question about any American Indian ancestry by using DNA in a couple of ways. If you know a woman who is descended from Mary Eliza Cloud through her maternal line (daughter to daughter to daughter), a simple mtDNA test from that descendant can tell you if Mary was Native American. A second test option is available -- autosomal DNA testing that maps a large part of the genome is now available but it's pretty expensive (about $400). They can identify contributions to your DNA from your ancestors for several generations back.

A lady sent me a small photograph of Rector Cloud. It's about 1.5" x 2". Rector was killed when he was 19 years old in an auto accident in Harlan county, Kentucky on Christmas eve 1937.
If anyone knows any of his relatives who are still living, I'd like to give the picture to them.
Rector's record can be seen here:

Tom,
Thank you very much for responding. I will try to contact the names you suggested as soon as I finish this note. The only thing I know are Marion Elisha's parents, and those from the census records and Marion's obit. His obit has a picture. Do you have that? There are some obits available for his children and for Laura Henson. Please let me know if you need them. Some I've ordered, some are online. I am a Gibbons/Garrett descendant. Marion Elisha's first wife was a sister to my gr-grandmother. Where did you get the name for Marion's first wife? All I have is Lida E. Gibbons. Where did you get the Elizabeth Estelle? She died before the 1910 death certificate requirement in Missouri, so I could not get a name off it. She has a tombstone, but it only has Lida on it. Please share your source for her full name. That is new and exciting information for me. Lida's father Michael Gibbons came from Ireland. I do not have my data online, but I will be happy to send y!
ou what I have on Marion's family. It will be forward from Marion though. He came into my research through marriage and I do not normally go backward on collateral lines.

Linda,
I can't answer your questions, but I would like to know if you know anything about Marion Elisha Cloud's ancestry. My information on his line ends with Joseph Cloud (1789-1856) and Delila Reed (1797-1877).
My information on Marion Elisha Cloud is here:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I67298&tree=mykindred01
Some additional info:
The Jefferson City, MO News and Tribune of May 5, 1963, p. 19:
"Births .... Son to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beck, 602 Howard St., Saturday at Charles E. Still Hospital." I am assuming this is a grandson born to Leonard and Ethelean (Cloud) Beck's son Leonard (he was a high school teacher, teaching industrial arts and social studies in Sept. 1963).
Doris Beck, A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beck of St. Elizabeth MO, married Jerry D. Ellis April 29, 1978 in Jefferson City. You might be able to contact them.
