There was a Jas Cloud in Crawford County, GA in 1850 with eight slaves:
five females ages 25, 24, 7, 6 & 5 and three males ages 18, 14 & 10. There
was a J. C. Cloud living in Crawford County in 1860 with two female slaves
ages 14 & 8.
These were not my ancestors but that doesn't deny that mine had slaves.
They probably did.

To begin, I need to make a correction in the email I sent Tom on July 2nd. Jane J. Cloud was not an aunt to Mary (Tilley) Clark. The two were most likely cousins.
I must admit defeat in one area I have been researching. It has been documented that Patsey Cloud married Philip Deatherage on 27 Dec., 1808. As summing Patsey was at least eighteen when she married, she would have been born ca. 1785-94. The Stokes County, NC 1810 census places Philip's birth in the same time frame. It has also been documented that Sally Cloud married John Deatherage on 2 Oct., 1806. The Stokes County 1810 census places their births ca. 1785. I have searched every source known to me and I cannot find the John and Philip Deatherage families after 1810. Someone please send me the source for the account of Philip Deatherage b. 1781, living and dying in Roane County, TN and his wife, Martha, living in Meigs County, TN prior to her death in 1862.
I may be mistaken to conclude that the Patsey Deatherage who married Lamberth Dobson in Stokes County on 19 Aug., 1817 was the same Patsey Cloud who married Philip Deatherage in Stokes County in 1808 and that the Sally Deatherage who married Armstead Durham in Stokes County on 25 Sept., 1816 was the same Sally Cloud who married John Deatherage in 1806. It would be a coincidence for a Stokes County Deatherage family to have two daughters about the same age and with the same given names as the Cloud girls but it was possible.
Age groupings, living proximity, land dealings and court records have been used to assemble the family of Capt. Joseph and Polly (unknown) Cloud. Joseph Jr., George, Nancy, Jeremiah, Polly, Sally, Patsey, Lucinda and Melinda. Some of us who have been snooping into the Stokes County Cloud families for years think there may have been another son, Isaac.
Joseph Cloud, son of the Capt., arrived in Roane County, TN prior to 1830. Joseph's sister, Polly, and her husband, John Tilley, came to TN with Joseph. Another sister, Nancy, and her husband, William Dabney Gaines, were also in the party.
Joseph arrived with one son between age 15-20, two sons between 20-30, one daughter 5-10, two daughters 10-15, two daughters 15-20 and two females between 20-30. He left one son back in Stokes County. He was George W. Cloud who had just married Nancy New and the young couple would soon join the rest of the family in Roane County. Joseph's youngest son was James and the two older brothers were Jeremiah and John Franklin.
Somewhere along the way, Rachel (Jessop) Cloud either died or disappeared and Joseph married Nancy (unknown). Nancy was considerably younger than Joseph. She was born in 1805 in VA.
One of Joseph's daughters, Martha born in NC in 1812 married Jacob Clower. Another daughter, Melinda born in NC in 1802 married Thomas Russell Lane in Roane County on 13 May, 1835. Jane Cloud born in NC in 1820 apparently never married.
Mary, wife of William Clark, was the daughter of John and Polly (Cloud) Tilley. She was born in NC in 1822.

In looking at zabasearch (which I believe has old data), this is what came

Jack A. Cloud, born Dec 1949
2906 76th St

(806) 745 - 7905

another address:

At whitepages, I did a reverse lookup on phone number (806) 745 - 7905 and
got
Jack A & Nan M. Cloud

Lubbock, TX 79423
ages give as 55- 59
The other phone number came up with nothing.

thanks -- question:
I have a "Martha" Cloud (parents unknown) who m. Phillip G. Deatherage on the date you mention for "Patsy", and they had children from 1810 through 1825 .... which would mean she probably didn't marry anyone else during that time (you wrote Patsy married Lamberth Dobson 8-19-1817).

Mary Cloud was the daughter of Captain Joseph Cloud of Stokes County, NC.
A large number of Stokes County families moved from Stokes County, NC to

brother to Mary (Cloud) Tilley. Jane J. Cloud was Joseph's daughter and an
aunt to Mary (Tilley) Clark.
Here is the lineage:
Captain Joseph Cloud b. ca 1755 in VA m ca. 1775 to Polly Unknown

Someone sent this note to me and I can't figure out who they're writing about (and they won't write me back with clarification).
"The Mary who is the dau of Joseph in Stokes, NC m. John Tilley 22 May 1806 by records in Stokes County. Their dau Mary Tilley m. William Clark Roane County, TN VI, p. 30 18 June 1840. Any help identifying Joseph Cloud and daughter Mary who married John Tilley would be appreciated.
