Two of my grandmother CLOUD's older sisters attempted to gain citizenship into "any" Indian Nation. One married a Choctaw man and finally succeeded that way.

Hi, Laura,
Thanks to you (and especially to your friend).
I hope the reference to "James T. Cloud" is a tying mistake and that your
friend checked for "James A. Cloud" (and/or just James Cloud).
At any rate, it was just a wild hope that we would find James's marriage -
we only know Ellen's approximate age (only 17, 18, or 19 when she had a
one-year-old son --- depending on which census data you believe) and that
she is reported to be born "in Tennessee" on 3 census records. The last
name of Stephenson was from records I got here on the Cloud rootsweb list.
I'll keep looking and maybe someday, we'll find the father of James A.
(probably for Anderson) Cloud and his brother William P. A. Cloud.
Again thanks and perhaps sometime I might meet your friend at the TN
Archives because I hope to be able to start some intensive CHAMBLISS and
CHANEY research there in the near future.

Hi Laura,
Tn has marriages back to the 1830's indexed in 2 volumes each: bride and
groom for West, Middle and East Tennessee.
I did not see an Ellen Stephenson to any Cloud - but there were 3 Ellens:
Ellen I. Stephenson to William B. Buford - 9-29-1858 Williamson Co.
Ellen Stevenson to Joseph C. Marshall 12-1-1863 Davidson
Ellen M. Stevenson to Godfrey M. Fogg 12-17- 39 Davidson
Did not see a James T. Cloud at all.

The Andrew Jackson Cloud I'm trying to find after he was 21 or so (James
A. Cloud's son) was born in/near Smithson, Livingston County, KY in
1858-1859. I doubt seriously tht he was a participant in the Civil War -
I know that I've heard of very young children being in both the
Revolutionary War and the US Civil War, but before age 7 would have been a
bit much for anyone.

It is also linked to Noah -- I have not (yet) provided any links for people mentioned in it (i.e. for other transcriptions, I made links of peoples' names so that people could click on them and go to that person's page).

That is Crawford county, Georgia
That would be Noah Cloud, son of James Carrell Cloud and grandson of my NOAH

two days after his son William Noah Cloud was born! I figured it out for
myself. Now to find out what the "V" was the initial for.....

Tom -- I haven't seen Laura's answer to your question, but I'm pretty sure
they are. The Eliza Cloud/ Jackson Bennett marriage is the one I was trying
to think of when I sent yesterday's message. My view is that Eliza was
probably Isaac/Jesse's sister, and Jackson may well have been a brother of
Isaac/Jesse's wife. As to Burton S., he was a son of Isaac/Jesse. Harry

After checking my files, I can offer a little more to the discussion
regarding this fellow - and his September 1842 marriage to Elizabeth
(Bennett or Connor?). First, there is a good summary of the contents of his
widow's pension application - based on his service during the Seminole War -
in the Cloud Family Journal, Vol. XVI, no. 2, pp. 37-38. The file number
at the U. S. Archives is provided. The deceased veteran and the widow are
clearly identified as "Isaac Cloud" and "Elizabeth A. Bennett." All
children are named, with birthdates. This makes it possible to confirm,
with no questions, that this is the Isaac listed in the 1850 census of
Bradley County, TN, which -it should be noted - adjoins Murray County, GA,
where the Isaac Cloud Jr. family was living at that time. This Isaac served
with George and James Madison Cloud, sons of Isaac Jr., not only in the
Seminole War but also in the Cherokee Removals (1836). As noted in the CFJ
article, George Cloud of Polk Co., TN, gave a statement supporting the
widow's application. One other thing that I recall seeing, but can't now
locate, is the record of another Cherokee Co. marriage - during the same
general time span - of a Cloud woman to a Bennett. Pairings like that
usually point to a case of siblings doing their courting in the same family,
maybe on the next farm down the road. Harry
I have Ezekiel Cloud having a son Andrew Jackson b 1826-died May 1896
I have your Jeremiah Cloud having an Andrew Jackson b ca 1820 m Nancy Wood
I have James Carrell Cloud having a son Andrew Jackson b July 1836
and the latter Andrew Jackson had an Andrew Jackson Jr b 29 Sept 1882

Tom...As I am looking at the military site, I am going down through my list
of people alphabetically...I don't remember where I was, but it got me to
William Youngblood..So along the way I have been looking up some census
information...what I have thus far is this
1900 census [District 46, Washington DC, taken 4 Jun, p. 258, family 51,
living at 1325 N Street NW]:
William Youngblood, 55, b: Dec 1844, married 17 yrs, AL, AL, AL, Auditor for
US Treasury
Fannie A., wife, 40, b: May 1860, 7 children, 6 living, AL, AL, AL
Floelle, daughter, 16, b: Mar 1883, AL
Will W., son, 13, b: Dec 1886, TN
Frances, daughter, 11, b: May 1889, AL
Armstrong, son, 9, b: May 1891, AL
Wanamaker (altho not readable), son, 5, b: May 1895, AL
{Note: 5 children are listed here. Your database reflects 8 children which
is correct but Dorothy was not born until abt 1901 I have absolutely no proof
for what I have in my database, but it shows Louisa born about 1883 also
shows she died about 1883. I also show Morton born about 1893 and died Dec 14,
1896. Don't ask me where it came from. So, if these children are correct
then I would suspect that Louisa did not die and she was out of the house by
1900.]
1910 census [Florence, Lauderdale, AL, 15 Apr, p. 24, family 7, 224 Mobile
St]:
WIlliam Youngblood, 66, married 28 yrs, AL, SC, SC. ? bureau, animal industry
Fannie, wife, 50, 4 children, 4 living, AL, VA, AL
Frances E., daughter, 20, AL
Armstrong, son, 18, AL
John W., son, 14, AL
Dorothy, daughter, 9, AL.
[Note: There are certainly some errors. At this point they have had at
least 6 children accounted for in the census...Floelle, Will W., Frances,
Armstrong, John W., and Dorothy.]
1920 census [Birmingham, Jefferson, AL, 2 Jan, family 206, 16 Avenue]
William Youngblood, 80, Al, SC, SC
Fannie, wife, 60, Al, AL, AL
Floelle Bonner, daughter, 35, widowed, AL, clerk, post office
Frances Youngblood, daughter, 27, single, Al, red cross
Dorothy Youngblood, daughter, 18, single, AL, teacher, public school
1920 census [San Diego, San Diego, CA, 7 Jan, p. 242, family 131]
William W. Youngblood, 30, AL, AL, AL, chauffer, TiaJuana stage
Victoria, 22, CA, CA, CA
William, 6, CA
Margaret, 5, CA
1930 census [Birmingham, Jefferson, AL, 11 Apr, p. 236, family 218, Avenue V
Floellen Bonner, 43, widowed, married age 21, AL, AL, AL, clerk, post office
Fannie Youngblood, mother, 68, widowed, married age 22, Al, AL, Al
Frances, sister, 38 single, AL, AL, AL, department editor, newspaper
Dorothy, sister, 28, single, Washington D.C., Al, AL, AL, librarian, hospital
William, nephew, 17, CA, TN, CA
Margarte, niece, 15, CA, TN, CA
Doris V., niece, 7, CA, TN, CA
[Note: Not sure what happened to the kids parents. Did William and Victoria
die and then kids got shipped to Alabama?]
So, this is what I have,,
William. Youngblood born Dec 1844 vice 1839 (1900, 1910 census), AL
Frances A. born May 1860 vice 1859, AL (1900 census)
Florence Ellen Youngblood Bonner born Mar 1883, AL
Louisa - don't know about her...she is in no census
William W., born Dec 1886, TN {1900, and the children in 1930)
Frances E., born May 1889, AL
Armstrong, born May 1891, AL vice 1893 (1900 census indicates his birthday
is in May, census was taken in Jun so he just turned 9. 1910 census was
taken in April showed him at 18 so in May he would turn 19. Thus born 1891.)
Morton - don't know about him..he is on no census
John Wanamaker, born May 1895 vice 1896
Dorothy, 1901 (putting 1910, 1920 & 1930 census together, 9, 18, 28 so she
must be turnint 19 and 29 during the year after the census) vice 1890 (If
census is right, I would guess her birthday to be about Apr 12, 13, 14, or 15.
Regardless of what 1910 and 1920 say, there is a good chance she really was
born in Washington DC, as it indicates in 1930.

Ken -- I'm the one who dubbed this chap "Isaac III" because I was so
convinced that he was the son of Isaac Jr. There's no question that he was
extremely close to the Isaac Jr. family, and of course with the Clouds at
that time you would have expected one son to be named after the father.
That said, I changed my mind for the reasons I gave.
I suspect that Tom is right about the handwriting being the source
of the Bennett-Conner confusion. In fact, in view of the way many people of
the day wrote their "I's," I can even imagine "Isaac" looking like "Jesse"
-- or vice-versa. Harry

apprehension and delivery, to the Sheriff or Jailer of said county, the
bodies of the said Cloud, McCraw and Cloud; and I do moreover charge
and require all officers, civil and military, to be vigilant in endeavoring
to apprehend and bring to trial the said fugitive, in order that he may
undergo a trial for the offense with which he is charged.

The Clouds appear to be 2 sons of Isaac and Eliz. and I may just be
muddying the water here.

After sleeping on this -- I believe we need to get a copy of the original.
If anyone can get a copy of page 42 of Cherokee cty marriage book 1841-1849, it would help to resolve this. I'm betting there is only one Cloud marriage on that page, not two.
Notice that CONNER and BENNET have the same number of letters and, except except for the "C" could easily by read either way if the handwriting is bad or smudged.
This brings me back to Harry's contention that Jesse and Isaac are the same person -- and I'll add that I'll bet Elizabeth Bennet and Elizabeth Conner are one and the same -- just transcribed by two different people.
Harry said he thought Jesse and Isaac for several reasons and there is a marriage record for Isaac on the same day in the same county as this marriage of Jesse's, and both men married a woman named Elizabeth.
But Isaac married Elizabeth Bennett and Jesse married Elizabeth Conner?
Assuming Isaac is also called Jesse ... and assuming Elizabeth had been previously married to either Bennett or Conner, what are the odds both of them would use a different name of another record of the same marriage?
I'd find it more believable that there were two Cloud men, probably related, who got married at the same time ... though this is the sort of thing a woman would do and not most men.

Tom -- that's a mysterious, but interesting, question. That's the wedding
date, in Cherokee Co. (GA), of Isaac Cloud and Elizabeth Bennett. I don't
have the cite, but I'm pretty sure I have seen the listing in that same
Cherokee Co. marriage book. Below are the notes that I have on this Isaac,
which will make it clear why I find your question so interesting. If Isaac
and Jesse are the same, I can't explain the discrepancy in the surname of
the spouse. I also can't explain how I ever missed the record you bring up.
Harry
"This Isaac served along with Isaac Jr's sons George and James
Madison in the Seminole War. In 1852, George gave a deposition in Polk
Co., TN, in 1852 regarding his (Isaac's) military service.
(U.S. Archives; folder on pension application of Elizabeth Bennett Cloud,
widow of Isaac Cloud, who died in 1854).
Because of his close association with George and James Madison
Cloud, sons of Isaac Cloud Jr., I long thought that this Isaac was a
brother of theirs. However, I now think it more likely that he was
a son of Jesse Cloud and thus their first cousin. My reasons are:
(1) the 1830 and 1840 census data for Isaac Jr. show no male in the
age category to which this Isaac belonged (we know he was born in 1814
because the 1850 census -- he was then in Bradley Co., TN -- provided his
exact age, 36 ); (2) he had no son named "George," which would have been
normal had he been a brother; and (3) a descendant of his recalls that
her grandmother spoke of a "Jesse" in their Cloud line (in fact, she thinks
that this Isaac's name may have been "Jesse Isaac" or "Isaac Jesse")."
