Tom, I am not having any luck in the census locating Wiley Van Buren CLOUD & Nancy MILLS after the 1880 census, nor their son, Freddie, shown with them in 1880 census.
There is a marriage record in Christian Co MO for Fred M. CLOUD to Mollie MOSES 21 Aug 1901 with A. W. Mayden, JP (Book 6, p 466).
I had earlier suspected this marriage belonged to Wiley Van Buren's son, Freddie. However, you have him with another spouse, so guess that wouldn't be right. Anyway, for whatever it is worth, the above marriage might fit to be Earl Izer CLOUD's parents. I hope you can find Fred and Mollie in a census with Earl in their home.

Lura Black and I have a conundrum -- barely used and we will let it go cheap!
I previously wrote about an Earl Thomas Cloud who was born 1908 in Alabama -- this isn't about him.
This is about Earl Thomas Cloud -- and a second Earl Cloud (Earl Izer Cloud), both of whom lived in San Mateo county, California. Lura and I have tried every trick we know to resolve their mysteries. I hope someone on the list can help us.
First -- Earl Thomas Cloud (ca 1898 MO - ??)
============================================
Earl Thomas Cloud, born circa 1898 in Missouri. His is an interesting story. In January of 1918 he married a woman named Ida in Seattle. He then shipped out for Manila and, upon arrival in July, received a letter from her that she'd gotten lonely and had married another man -- a man he names as John Karwaski (though I believe it may have been a different name, maybe Kowalski or something like that).
Nine years later, in 1926, Earl filed a divorce petition against Ida in Redwood City alleging she deserted him. There are numerous legal notices posted in different counties requiring her to appear or answer the petition.
In the thirties, Earl Thomas Cloud lived in San Mateo county and worked as a "San Mateo estate investigator." He was one of two people responsible for locating the heirs of James Frazer, a Palo Alto department store magnate who died in San Mateo.
If we are to believe the divorce petition (i.e. the spelling of the other husband's name) Ida married Earl Thomas Cloud Jan. 1918 in Seattle and then married John Karwaski before July 1918 (location unknown).
On the 1930 census he is a boarder, divorced and living in Burlingame, San Mateo cty, CA.
I can't find anything else about Earl -- no beginning, no end ????
Second -- Earl Izer Cloud
==========================
Earl Izer Cloud was also born in Missouri -- April 8, 1905. He lived in San Mateo county also and died Feb. 23, 1985 in Alameda county, CA. The CA death records give his mother's maiden name as MOSES.
In 1953 Earl Izer Cloud was deputy regional director of the Office of Price Stabilization (OPS) and resided at 1249 Drake avenue, Burlingame, San Mateo cty, CA.
This is all I know about his family:
1-Cloud
+Moses
. .2-Earl Izer Cloud
b: APR 8, 1905 in Missouri
d: FEB 23, 1985 in Alameda county, California
. . +Jean Bayne Gowan
b: OCT 4, 1904 in Colorado
d: NOV 22, 1987 in Alameda county, California
. . . 3-Thomas McKenzie Cloud
b: FEB 2, 1936 in San Francisco county, California
d: APR 9, 1961 in San Luis Obispo county, California
. . . 3-Richard Frederick "Dick" Cloud
b: JAN 1, 1940 in Alameda county, California
. . . +Joan E. Smith
b: abt 1942
m: SEP 1, 1962 in San Mateo county, California
. . . 3-Earlene Isabella Cloud
b: JUL 25, 1941 in San Mateo county, California
. . . +David Ted Carter
b: abt 1939
m: FEB 3, 1962 in Santa Clara county, California
. . . . .4-Steven T. Carter
b: OCT 18, 1965 in Santa Clara county, California
. . . . .4-Karen E. Carter
b: NOV 12, 1969 in Santa Clara county, California
. . . . .4-Jeffrey J. Carter
b: JUL 11, 1973 in Alameda county, California
(I even looked for Earlene Carter -- found two in CA, but none married to a Ted ??)
So the conumdrum -- two Earl Clouds, both born in Missouri, within 7 years of each other and both living in California, and both in San Mateo county, probably even overlapping during their stays there. Further, Lura and I can find no other information about them. There are a couple of intriguing censuses, one even where an Earl Cloud turns up in Colorado (where Earl Izer's wife was born), but nothing that we can be sure of. I wonder but what they aren't cousins or uncle-nephew ?? (You'd think the name "Izer" would be a clue, but I can't figure out where it came from. Also, I don't have any woman in my database surnamed MOSES who married a CLOUD.)
So, anyone know about those Missouri Clouds? Any help appreciated.
thanks,
Tom
Looking for information on the CLOUD Leona married.
Kettering was her mother's maiden. Leona Kettering ASHTON was born 3-17-1905 in Virginia and died (as Leona FEARNOW) 11-1-1980 in New Jersey.
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I152927&tree=mykindr...
Leona married at 16, or about 1921, to the CLOUD male and they had one child -- Harold CLOUD who was born in West Virginia about 1925. They were divorced by the 1930 census and, in 1938, Leona remarried John Fearnow.

I'm trying to find the parents / ancestry of James H. Cloud (1926-1991) who married Elizabeth Cloud in Madison county, AL in 1965.
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I148471&tree=mykindr...
I found obits for his sister-in-law Annie R. (Bennett) Cloud in the Huntsville Times on Feb. 9, 2001 p. B-3 and on Feb. 11, 2001, p. A-16 but can't read the text of them.
All of the deceased members of this family, except James, are buried at the Gipson Cemetery in Madison cty, AL. James Herman Cloud is buried at the Cloud Cemetery in Cloud's Cove. (It's possible that the Gipson Cemetery and the Cloud Cemetery are the same ???)
thanks,
Tom

I am searching for the parents of Martha A. CLOUD according to 1900 census born May 1825.
Death record- She is recorded as Mary A. BRADLEY & it indicates her birth to be abt. 1828 in Boone, Kentucky.
Martha was the wife of Josiah B. BRADLEY and she died 4 Feb 1901 in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. She is buried in the Cave Hill Cemetery.
Based on the 1830 census her father may have been either a James or William CLOUD.

Thank you for your reply.
My connection is through Joseph's wife, Eliza Taylor. Eliza's sister, Jemima(Taylor) Swearingen & Joseph Swearingen named their only son Jospeh Cloud Swearingen b 1808 prob. Philadelphia. Joseph Cloud b 1770 was appointed one of the admin. of the will of my Joseph Swearingen b abt 1770.
I belonged and received the Cloud Family Journals back in 1997 & 1998. The president at that time was R. Taylor Cloud and people were helpful.
I am just picking up some areas of this research and wanted to reach out to others, so I appreciate the sites you've given.
When I visited Philadelphia last month, I got a wonderful old postcard picture of the original US Mint building -- the family might be interested.
I am particularly interested in a time line for Joseph Cloud to understand more about him.
I would enjoy hearing from anyone on this line.

Dear lweber68,
What is your name? What "group" did you join?
I've reviewed your posts and cannot see how you are related to the family -- not that I think that's of any importance, but I'd at least like to know with whom I'm corresponding. Anonymity is not something which piques my interest (but rather causes me to become guarded).
You are welcome to post any information you have here -- anyone researching the family would certainly appreciate it. You may also join the Cloud email forum, also at rootsweb, and you may find information and submit suggestions to the two main sites which host Cloud family information:
- http://cloudgenweb.com/ ... and
- http://mykindred.com/
The people in "our group" are very helpful but I suspect they'd be a bit more apt to collaborate with you if you'd tell us who you are and what is your interest in the family.
thanks,
Tom Cloud

Is there a contact today to the son, Joseph Cloud b 1800?
