Ancestry.com indicates age is 57. No way does it read 57...looks like 30 or 20, but I
suspect it is not 20. 1930 census shows he is 52, so I suspect about 32 here.

I could not find William or Hershel in the 1920 census. I did find Hershel
in the 1930 census. He is in Webster, LA so I suspect the Galen I found is
his son. Living with Herschel J.,52, and Roxie, 55, are A.J., son, who is
probably the baby shown in 1910 census, Thelma, 13 and Margurite, 11. All born
in AR. Herschel is a millrighter in a sawmill. Maybe if I search on Thelma
in 1920 I might find something. That didn't help...finally searched on
Roxie...got 'em. They were listed under Claud.

children born in AR. There is also a Murphy family at the top of the

Albert Warren Cloud -

This is a real good candidate -- born about the same year and wife's given name the same. The only fly in the ointment is the census says he was b. OH and this Albert Warren Cloud was b. IL .... so I'm not sure the two are the same person ??

I have found that Doctors of Osteopathy are highly capable doctors that
prescribe, do surgery, and have all the privileges at hospitals.
Prescription meds are often not the first thing prescribed but diet change
and exercise are stressed.

The daughter's name is Lassie -- just got off the phone with Lawton's wife (second wife) ... need to go over my notes.
This is what I have now. Mrs. Bonnie Cloud is 80 and didn't know much about Lawton's family. She was his second marriage and wasn't certain of the spelling of names (for example, she said Lassie married Malicot, when it was Malicoat).
Also -- the conversation was a bit confusing ... so I'm not sure who married Mary NOW -- but I'm pretty sure she meant it was Lawton's brother (whose name she didn't know). Lawton's two children by his first wife were a daughter (Susie) and a son Terry.
These are all Tennessee Clouds -- she said Lawton's first two children were born in "Elizabethton" Tennessee ... can't find any place named that ??

These records, when taken together, point out some interesting connections to the allied families of the Coode/Cude line. The Goldsmith family was related to the Coode and Gerrard families.. The Cloud family, through their marriages to the Lane, Allred and Beeson families became cousins and in-laws to the Coode/Cude family. They traveled with us to NC. and on to Indiana. Finding the Husband and Cloud families in the same records this early, is interesting because of their involvement with the Quaker movement. 1768-Herman Husband, the promenade Quaker, Was the Leader of Quaker Farmers in Orange Co. The movement was in protest to Religious persecution, excessive taxation and abuses by public officials.

Thank you for the wonderful information.
Perhaps,(I do know better than the glitch) than I made in the previous
message) there was more to the information on the traders in Indian
territory than I was able to find at the time. There is a Federal Achive
here and I will try to learn and share if there is anything thing I can find

Carolyn,
None of my Cloud line tracks through KY. However, Sherrill Cloud's
article in the most recent Cloud Family Journal deals with Clouds who
migrated from VA to KY , IN, and IL during the 1700s and early 1800s.
Pat Cloud, President of the Cloud Family Association has written an
article for the next journal issue dealing with her husband's (Bob
Cloud's) KY ancestors who fought on opposite sides during the Civil War..
I don't see your name on the roll of the Cloud Family Association, which
tells me you are probably not taking advantage of the association's
combined efforts.
I guess you've looked at CFA web sites at http://mykindred.com/cloud/
and mirror site http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/ and also Kenny
Cloud's data base: still available at
http://www.cloudweb.org/indextng.php . I've also invited you to a
password protected site where you can see others doing Cloud research.
Whether you choose to join or not you may consider whether to get
involved in the CFA Y-DNA project if you have a male Cloud relative
(brother, father, uncle, nephew, or cousin). While not a substitute for
a paper trail, this is providing good clues on where to look.

My grandfather NEVER told my father (or his full brother - and I'm reasonably certain their older half-brother) the name of that man (my great-grandfather). My father *was* able to find and visit with the living relatives of my grandfather's first wife in/near Paducah, KY in the 1930s or 40s and knew a tiny bit about some of his uncles and one aunt in that area.

Hi, Cecil,
No. My CHANEY and CHAMBLISS ancestors who migrated to the Natchez area (scattering to the nearby MS and LA counties in the first quarter of the 1800s) are on my mother's side.
So far, I have FINALLY tracked my father's CLOUD ancestors back only 3 generations. My grandfather Joshua Wilson CLOUD was born 11 Nov 1869 in Marshall County, KY. The family tale is that his father 'ran away from home before Josh was born' and 'moved to Texas - *maybe* to the Corpus Cristi, TX area.' My grandfather NEVER told my father (or his full brother - and I'm reasonably certain their older half-brother) the name of that man (my great-grandfather). My father *was* able to find and visit with the living relatives of my grandfather's first wife in/near Paducah, KY in the 1930s or 40s and knew a tiny bit about some of his uncles and one aunt in that area.
By getting the name of the oldest brother (now known to be Andrew Jackson CLOUD) who was 11 years old when found on the 1870 census and (in about 2005 or so) finding a James Anderson CLOUD with wife Ellen and 1-year-old son named Jackson CLOUD on the 1860 census in Livingston County, KY, I was able to find a bit more about James Anderson Cloud and his parents (whose names I can't recall right now); but so far all pleas on the Internet have yielded NOTHING about where they *might* have been 'from' before appearing in Livingston Co, KY in the 2nd quarter of 1800s.
I just moved into a new home on 13 July and can't find my files right now (either paper or computer). So, I can't find the name of James Anderson Cloud's father; but I DO recall that William P. A. Cloud was an uncle of James.
Because I have NO IDEA who might be my ancestor before James's father (whose name I don't have right now), I am checking any and ALL leads to see if I *might* luck into a connection. (This isn't as bad as it sounds because I do EXTENSIVE research on the *all* the CHANEY and CHAMBLISS families (any spellings) of the southeastern part of the US and checking for another family with a name starting with "C" is just automatic. Thus, I have many bits and pieces of data on totally unconnected CLOUD people who MIGHT someday be found to be part of my CLOUD line.
IF you have any idea of a 'lost descendant' who *might* have migrated to the western part of KY about 1820-1830, let me know and I'll try to see if this *MIGHT* be my ancestor's line.

Carolyn,
The passport story is also interesting. Was your ancestor closely
related to Adam Cloud, in Natchez 1790-1795 and featured in the book
"Righteous Rebel" by Catherine Cloud Templeton?
Yes, I was referring to Georgia. Sorry to keep you guessing for much of
the message. The comment was primarily for list members who share
Jeremiah Cloud (1784 GA - 1861 TX) as an ancestor and thus share the
puzzle of his parentage.

Cecil,
First, I found this item to be VERY interesting. It's a bit of American history that had totally eluded me. (I was aware that others of my ancestors had to get a 'passport' to cross Indian lands to get from Robertville, SC (just north of Savannah, GA) to the Natchez, MS area in 1810-1811 - not sure yet just *which* Indian lands they were crossing.)
However, since I don't even know who Jeremiah Cloud was or where he lived, I'm still not sure what State you're referring to. I do see that you mention Macon, Ga and I *assume* Twiggs County is also found in that state. But, I really had to search to find that bit.

In 1795, when ancestor Jeremiah Cloud was about eleven years old,
"factories" were established by the U.S. government in various frontier
locations to facilitate trade with the Indians. One of those was
apparently located at the Okmulgee Old Fields, the population center of
the area destined to be Twiggs County after being ceded by the Creek
nation under treaty in about 1803 and being a part of Wilkinson County
for a time. This area was then (after Jeremiah had moved to Alabama)
taken as a part of the newly formed Bibb County (Macon, GA).
There are transcriptions of "Indian Letters", "Indian Deprecation
Claims", and such that have been indexed; but, I haven't seen
transcriptions of the other material except for notes of Benjamin
Hawkins. Have I just overlooked it? Here is the microfilm of particular

Trying to find Clara's husbands name. I can only find a GUN CLOUD in Harlan
KY, 1880 census, born about 1854. He is the son of Frank (b: 1825) and Nancy
(b: 1827). If it is the same person, he had a daughter he named Nancy,
after his mother??. Now that I look at it, it isn't GUN, it is something like
GI...something. He is 26 so maybe I can find him in 1870 census. They also
have a son named James, but he is shown as 21. I suspect as you will see in the
1860 census, that his name is Greenberry...could be that in the 1870 census
also. It just isn't real clear. I think 1900 census might actually be Green
B. It has writing over it so I can't tell. Now that I look back at it, I am
pretty sure it is Green B.
Interesting...1870 census, Rocky Station, Lee, VA (there must have been
some ties to this place), Aug, family 73, p. 293 B
Frank Cloud, 44, b: Claiboron Cty, TN, works on farm
Nancy, 41, b: Harlan Cty, KY
Alexander, 18, b: Claiboron Cty, TN
Greenburg, 16, b: Claiboron Cty, TN
Benjamin, 14, b: Claiboron Cty, TN
Mary E., 13 b: Claiboron Cty, TN,
James, 11, b: Harlan Cty, KY
William, 8, b: Harlan Cty, KY
Shelly L., 5, b: Harlan Cty, KY
Sarah, 2, b: Harlan Cty, KY
1860 census, Harlan, KY, 11 Jun,
B. F. Cloud, 33, TN, farmer
Nancy, 30, KY
Alexander, 7, TN
Greenberry, 6, TN
Benjamin, 4, TN
Mary, 3, TN
James, 1, KY
B. F. might stand for Benjamin Franklin. I found a Ben F in the 1850 census
of Bradley Cty, TN, born about 1829. His father is Jerymiah Cloud, 68, b:
VA; Heron/Karen H., 52, VA; Ben F., 21, TN; Lucy A., 18, TN; Mary B., 16, TN;
John F., 13, TN; Jerymiah, 11, TN
That's about as far as I can go, I think.
