I would love to compare notes with you on this Cloud line. I think William was married a 5th time to Sarah Sipes. The marriage record shows they were married in 1874 and she died in 1875. They weren't married long either.

Hi - I don't have a picture at this time. I will have to go to the cemetery to take a picture so will put it on my to-do list. It may be a while before I get the picture taken. I thought you might want to know that we actually have records for two people with the last name "Cloud". As you can see I don't have a date for William T. Cloud. This is what we have in our book:

Cecil Stokes and I attended the DNA project administrators' conference in Houston last weekend. This was for administrators of DNA projects using Family Tree DNA as the provider of the services (and the conference).
There were two days of non-stop seminars / lectures on everything from how to maintain a DNA web site to technical discussions of DNA, mutation rates, Time to Most Recent Ancestor calculations, etc.
I'd like to say I learned a lot, but much of it was over my head. I'm hoping that, if I roll around in it long enough, some of it will rub off on me.
Perhaps the most valuable part of the conference was meeting other administrators and visiting with them. Hearing their perspectives, problems and solutions gave me a lot of food for thought.
One of "our own" was recently hired to help with the company's web site programming -- Nicholas Cloud -- and Cecil and I got to visit with him several times. Nicholas isn't involved (or particularly interested) in genealogy, but he took a DNA test after being hired by the company and it is now part of our project. Turns out he is another person from the same line as Kenny Cloud.
Sincerely,
Tom Cloud

In 1930, Susie Small is head of household in Baltimore, 72, widowed. With her is daughter Octavia (written first as Cloud Octavia E, but both the Cloud and the E were lined out), 46, divorced.
Looking at 1920, the woman in whose household Warren is listed has first name that looks to me like Actavia. With last name Wood and mother Susie Small, so the same woman.
In 1910, Ottavia (or Octavia, hard to tell whether it's two t's crossed, or a cross for the t also intersecting the c)Wood is listed as stepdaughter, 28, M, in the household of James and Susanah Small. In 1900, she is not in the household of James and Susie, who are listed as married 12 years, so consistent with Octavia being the daughter of Susie by a first marriage. I haven't found Octavia in 1900.
Still a puzzle, but maybe there are some useful clues here.

can someone 'splain this to me?
Warren B. Cloud was b. May 1879 in Maryland, son of Daniel and Maria Louisa Woodward Cloud. He is on the 1900 census with his parents in Baltimore, MD.
According to the 1910 census of Cleveland, OH, he married a woman named Lota (?) about 1909.
It's the 1920 census that has my head spinning. It has Arkasia Wood, 36, widowed as HOH, with Susie Small, 66, listed as mother and Warren listed as son (everyone's b. MD).
The only rational explanation I can come up with is that Warren's father, Daniel Cloud, remarried Susie and had Arkasia as a daughter (Susie is 20 years younger than Warren's mother). The problem with that is -- Daniel and Maria are together on 1900 census, and there is no daughter named Arkasia b. ca 1884.

Hi Elizabeth:
I too once thought Cloud was quite possibly an Indian name. However, it is
really an English name, with a slight difference in spelling Cloude or Clude.
I think it was also used in France too; since there is a town near Paris
named Cloud.
It is quite possible that some young Cloud men in America married females
that were Indian or part Indian.

I am related, I believe to John Cloud born in Tennessee. I found his civil
war registration from Tennessee and the date of his birth matches your
record. On it he lists race as American. It seemed odd to me. Like he was
ashamed of his heritage..Cloud is an Indian name. He married Sarah Alice Lucas
and they had Marie Adeline Cloud, which was my great-grandmother. Email me if
I can help you further.
Thanks!
