Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Ken -- I have Greenberry (abt 1785) the son of William Rev. S. with a son
Benj. Franklin, b. April 1826. I believe we recently agreed that he (B.
F.) is the one who married Nancy Middleton. I don't have any children.

How about a little more info on Dr. James Cloud so we can localize on him in our data. Then might be able to provide info if he is there.

Angela,
I've just finished a major revision / update to the data at mykindred.com with the help of several researchers of your branch of Joseph Cloud and Jane Carpenter. The data as it is there now shows Joseph's parents as William Cloud & Elizabeth Morgan. I'm not certain whether that is due to an error in merging the data or if that is considered correct by the researchers of that branch. I need to contact them to make certain.
Please take a look -- and write me directly, if you want to.
Joseph Cloud's record is at:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I88605&tree=mykindred01
I fear that, in repairing and updating much of this data, that new errors have been introduced .... I'm still working on it, but it needed to be published to the website, and was uploaded this morning.
I also recommend to you that you join the Cloud email list, if you're not already a member. Send an email to "cloud-request(a)rootsweb.com" with the word subscribe as both the subject and the body of the message

I am looking for information on my ancestry. The furthest I go back is to a Joseph Cloud born in 1783 at Henry Co, Virginia. He married a Jane Carpenter in 1803 in Clairborn, Tennessee. She died in 1850. Together they had nine children; Malinda (01/01/1804 to 1892), Benjamin (1806 to 1892), William Henry (1813 to 1887), Greenberry (unknown), Burl (unknown), Calvin (01/28/1821 to 10/10/1862), James (1830 to unknown), Polly (unknown), and Dtr (unknown). I believe that Joseph father was a William Cloud the third and William was married to an Elizabeth. I have found a lot of different Williams and am not sure who would be my ancestor. Any help I can get I would greatly appreciate. Also if anyone would like any information from me I would be happy to help. Angela J Cloud

Just wanted to introduce myself- a descendant of William Cloud of Wiltshire by way of Dr James Cloud of SC (ca.1800). If anyone would like to know something about the South Carolina branch, or knows something about the English Clouds before 1600, please contact me!
I. - For those of you interested in the Cloud DNA Project, there are some interesting new developments.
I have updated the results page
http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/results/cdnareport.php
Note that I have added two people at the bottom:
1 - King Colla Uais of the 4th century, high king of Ireland.
2 - King, Niall Noigíallach, 5th century high king of Ireland.
All of the identified "haplotypes" of our test subjects are R1b1 -- meaning origins in ancient Western Europe. The two men above are both R1b, and so of a slightly more distant branch from the rest of us. I just thought it would be interesting to see how they matched up to our results.
II. - I found a great site that allows computing genetic distances and other y-dna comparisons. I've used it to generate interesting new data for our project. You can see it at:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/results/ydnacomp.php
(The two kings of old Erin are included here too.)
III. - A helpful new site has come on-line -- the International Society of Genetic Genealogy. Take a look at the "For Newbies" page. It has some good information there.
http://www.isogg.org/
IV. - Let's get some more people to participate in the project. The more results we have, the easier it will become to focus our research on specific lines. If you know of any male descended from the CLOUD paternal line, try to get him to join the project.
V. - A participant DOES NOT have to be a member of the Cloud Family Association.
VI. - There are two primary requirements to participate in the Project:
1 - the person must be a male descended from the male/paternal Cloud line (he does not need to have the Cloud surname); and
2 - he must submit a pedigree to the project. (Without a paper trail -- the pedigree -- the research results are of little usefulness.) The pedigree should contain all known ancestral information on his paternal line.
VII. The email address for the project administrator(s) is
clouddna(a)mykindred.com
VIII. Women may purchase mtdna kits through the project at a discount, but mtdna is not presently part of the project.
IX. The Cloud DNA Project home page is mirrored at two sites:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/dna/http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/
(all "active" pages are on the mykindred site, since rootsweb does not offer server-side scripting using php to us.)
sincerely,
Tom Cloud
Some of you may be interested in knowing what is going on with our dna project, but you may not be a member of the project. If that description fits you, and you want to be included in the dna project discussions, please email me and I'll add your name to my address book for the project.
As always -- please consider joining the project or having a male CLOUD relative join it.
thanks,
Tom Cloud

Attn: Harry & Ron
Regarding Henry CLOUD who was living next door to Susannah BONDURANT-Cloud in 1850 Claiborne Co TN, Harry is correct he was s/o Joseph CLOUD & Jane CARPENTER. His first wife was Mary Jane LAKINS. Henry (some records say he was William Henry) can be found in 1860 Stone Co MO with his second wife, Elizabeth SHUMATE-Hill, widow of Perry HILL. Henry & Elizabeth were m 22 Jan 1859 in Stone Co MO. They appear in Barry Co MO 1870 and she was a widow living with her son William HILL in 1900 Carroll Co AR.
As for the Benjamin Franklin in Henry's home in 1850 who would appear to be s/o Henry & Mary Jane, it is believed he married Elizabeth (Cline) Wise 12 Dec 1872 in Stone Co MO. I don't know where Benjamin Franklin, physician son of Susannah, lived in 1850 maybe away in medical school? He was in 1860 Webster Co MO and 1870 Dallas Co TX. There was about a 10-year difference in age of those two named Benjamin Franklin if we can believe the 1850 & 1870 census records.

Dear cousins,
I presume all of you got the email (below) from rootsweb detailing the change to our email list/forum.
The change to our list has just taken place. Now, let's see how well the transition is.
One noteworthy change is that there is no longer a need to put the "-L" in the address to the list. (The "L" stood for "list" whereas the "D" stands for "digest".) So you are now supposed to be able to send email to the list using the simplified address - cloud(a)rootsweb.com

>Dear RootsWeb mailing list subscriber,
>
>We are excited to announce that in the coming weeks, the RootsWeb.com
>mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system.
>
>Why?
>The new list management system offers updated technology, better spam
>control, and more efficient hosting of the lists.
>
>When?
>All the lists won't be updated all at once. In fact, once we start it
>will take us about two weeks to complete the process. We've posted the
>additional details about the update and a current update schedule at the
>link below.
>
>This page can also be found by following the link found on
>http://lists.rootsweb.com. If there are any changes to the schedule,
>we'll update this page to let you know.
>
>How will it Affect You?
>Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the new
>system so there will be no need to re-subscribe to your list(s),
>however, because the sending and receiving of list email will be handled
>by a new system, you may notice a few changes to your list(s).
>
>Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume
>and issue numbers of the list digests.
>
>The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means the
>"from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly
>different- ListName(a)rootsweb.com vs. the current
>ListName-L(a)rootsweb.com. You may have to adjust your spam filters or
>put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being
>caught in your "junk" folder.
>
>This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you
>use the list.
>
>Here's why:
>- You will still be able to send messages to the list using the
>"ListName-L(a)rootsweb.com" email address you use today. Additionally, you
>can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to
>ListName(a)rootsweb.com. Both addresses will work after the list has been
>migrated.
>
>- You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or
>digest mode by sending your request to ListName-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
>or ListName-D-request(a)rootsweb.com as you do today. You will also be
>able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your

>The tools that list administrators use to manage their list will also be

Portia,
I notice your web page says the original page was lost.
Have you checked with any of the archiving services to see if one of them has it? You can copy it from the archive service, if you can find it. What was the URL for your original page(s)?
