Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Thanks for the response. What is the e-mail address for off list? I have
my genealogy data on REUNION 8 which is an MAC program. If you don't have
it, I doubt you can read it. The family history printout is on WORD so you can
probably read that. Please let me know how to send it. There are a number
of pages.
Thanks,
SARA
Sara,
You will probably get more information if you send it to the whole list (unless there is something private you don't want in the list archives).
I have no experience with Reunion, but surely there is a way for you to generate reports in text format ??? (If you already have it in Word, then just choose "File >> Save As >> Plain Text" -- and then copy it and paste it into an email and send it to the list.
Let me offer a little explanation of some things that might help you ...
- you ask how to send email off-list
- look at the header for the email you're replying to. It should show the "From" address of the sender.
CAUTION -- If you just hit the Reply button, your email will go to everyone on the list.
If you want to just send to the person who sent the email, you will need to copy their "From" address and paste it into the "To" field before you hit the Send button.
WRT Reunion ....
- you say others can't read the data from Reunion
- you have two options -- generate a report or a gedcom
- look at your Reunion menus -- probably under "File"
- you should find an "Export" option labeled "gedcom"
... (gedcom is a standard interchange format between genealogy programs)
- One really important item -- email to rootsweb mailing lists must be in PLAIN TEXT format. This is to prevent malicious code (i.e. viruses) from being attached to an email and being sent to everyone on the list. But it also causes headaches for people who are used to being able to put things in italics or different fonts or colors.
If you choose to send a report to this list (a rootsweb list), you will need to tell Reunion that you want the report generated in plain text rather than as output for a word processor program or in pdf.
.... We are glad to have you as a member of the list, and I'm sure there are many people on the list looking forward to seeing what you have to add to our Cloud family information.
We all hope your line is the one that breaks through our brick walls and answers all our questions .... I am particularly interested, since my line was also in the GA/AL/NC/SC areas.
sincerely,
Tom Cloud

Hi Tom Cloud:
I noticed that in the subject message you copied an old email address for me
that is no longer valid. My current address is _tomkingsr(a)aol.com_
(mailto:tomkingsr@aol.com) . I just copied the subject information from the
referenced source and never had an occasion to use it. I hope that it proves to be
useful to others.
Tom, I am no longer very active in genealogical research. Time has caught up
with me. Back in May I celebrated my 86-th year and I currently hope to
reach at least 90!
Bye for now.

Tom King sent this five years ago -- but it seems worthwhile to me to bring
it up again in light of our dna project and our trying to find lost branches
of the Cloud family. I have modified it a bit to separate the data into
tab-delimited fields so it can be put into a spreadsheet for analyses. (For
example, George Cloud (53) and Mary Cloud (17) both arrived in 1914 and are
apparently from the same family as they both live at 323 High St., Bellevue, Ohio.)
If you know who any of these people are (or if you find out) please let the
rest of us know. It might prove to be something very worthwhile to one or
more of us.
thanks,

Sara,
WRT your Cloud / Lawson family -- if you can find a direct male descendant, he could join the Cloud DNA Project and we could immediately know if his line was related to the general Cloud family or not. Do you know anyone who fits that description ? .... a direct male descendant? I will be happy to contact them if you will give me the information (you can send it to me off-list if you want).
Also -- please tell us what you know about this family -- names, places and dates. It is easier (at least for me) if it is put it into a standard genealogical report format -- a descendant chart or family group sheet for example.
WRT how you got on the list -- someone using your email address sent a "subscribe" email to the list server (I know because I'm the list admin and I saw that email).
sincerely,
Tom Cloud

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information. I guess I got on the list when I e-mailed
a Cloud inquiry. My situation is a little different. I'm looking for
Joseph Cloud, married to Nancy R. Newsom Cloud in 1848. He died in 1884 and in
his property partition documents, all their children were Lawsons.
I know there was a lot of interaction between Clouds and Lawsons but I
don't know the story behind this mystery. In those legal papers there was a
Jonathan Martin involved, a Ruth Bohanon, some Clouds and all the Lawson
children and some of their husbands.
This all happened before the Clouds you have listed from the ellis
island records. I believe there were Clouds that went back to Jamestown. Until I
know for sure who Joseph Clouds parents were, I can't be sure if he's
connected back to Jamestown or not.
If all these Clouds came in the 20th century, they probably aren't
related to my Joseph and Nancy R.(Newsom) Cloud who were married and died in Stokes
County, North Carolina. They may have come from Virginia before that. I
know the Newsoms did.
If you have any information about these earlier Clouds, I'd love to
learn more.
Thanks.

I should have mentioned one other Cloud-Lawson connection. In his will of
1816 (Stokes Co., NC, Wills) Jonas Lawson mentions daughter Mary Cloud.
There's a high probability that she was the wife of Capt. Joseph Cloud.

Moses Lawson served under Capt. Joseph Cloud in the Revolution. Capt. Cloud.
(see below). But this Joseph Cloud died in 1825 (in Stokes), and this Moses
Lawson would have been long gone by the year 1884. What entanglements the
descendantsof these two N.C. Militia comrades might have entered into I
don't know. Harry
1780 - An account of the Revolutionary service of William Hooker refers to
his service "for 3 months on horse under Capt. Joseph Cloud, a neighbor on
Dan River, in the summer of 1780 and Joseph Winston was major..."
Early Families of the North Carolina Counties of Rockingham and Stokes with
Revolutionary Service. Jas. Hunter Chap., D.A.R., 1977. p. 57.
1780 - Entry of Moses Amos Lawson refers to his Rev. service in a 3-month
tour "in the Battle of King's Mountain in Capt. Joseph Cloud's Company..."
Ibid., p. 67. The Distant Crossroads ref. (see above) says that Cloud's
company was is the right flank of the attack. (the D.A.R. book cited above
contains a number of other references to individuals who served under Capt.
Cloud, often in Maj. Winston's regiment, under Col.[Benj.] Cleveland. One
incident involved Thomas Lankford.)
