Lura, I'm John Cloud Neal and looking for information of the slaves that
Jeremiah had at his death. They were Daniel, My GGgrandfather, Betsey,
Lynn, Clarissa,Joe and Friday. Were they with the Cloud family when they
came to Texas? Do any of Cloud family have any information on these Slaves
and where they came from? Would be thankful for any information. Thanks

Lura,
Just saw your Francis letter. Mary Alford (you had Olford) is my 3ggrandmother. She is the grandmother of Melissa Camilla Jackson, who married Francis Marion Cloud. The Jacksons and Washams owned land near Buckhorn in Austin Co.
Do you know who Lucinda married?
Best regards, Gary
Okay, so I am about a year behind everybody....lol. Based on all the emails
concerning Woodson Francis and his descendents, I did a little census
snooping. Based on the info, Woodson apparently had a daughter named Lucinda and sons
named Miller and James (and other children), but this specifically is
responsive to these children. I don't think I've seen this in emails before, but if
so, sorry for the duplication:
During the 1850 census of Austin County the following were polled between
pages 88 - 90. Family number listed first.
14 HGW Cloud & family
15. W. G. Bush/Zillah Bush & Family (think we are related to president???
lol)
16. James Cloud & Virginia Jane McDade Cloud/Joseph Francis and wife, Mary
17. Jeremiah Cloud & Elizabeth
18. John C. Cloud/Mary
19. Mary Olfred (age 62) with possible daughter Harriet, husband and child
20. Miller Francis & family
21. Lucinda Washam & family (Lucinda shown age 45)
22. James Francis & family (James shown age 45)
If I were a betting person (and have been known to do so on occasion) suspect
this is Lucinda Francis Washam, and James is Woodson's son.
Here is the census: 1850 census (Austin County, TX, taken 3 Oct
Miller Francis, age: 40, b: TN, farmer; Nancy, wife, age: 36, b: OH;
Margarette, age: 10, b: TX; James, age: 6, b: TX; Lidia Ann, age: 4, b: TX; Elizabeth
Francis, age: 65, b: VA; Elizabeth F. ?, age: 22, b: TN; Mary McKey, age: 21,
b: LA; John Ahrint, age: 14, b: GER. (Note: this Elizabeth would apparently
be Woodson's widow and Miller's mother.)
Lucinda Washam, age: 45, b: TN; John, age: 23, b: MO; Woodson, age: 18, b:
MO;
Thomas, age: 15, b: MO; William, age: 13, b: MO; Lafayettt, age: 8, b: MO.
(my note: This John may be the one who married Mary Connolly, daughter of
Elizabeth Cloud and Isaac Connolly)
James Francis, age: 45, b: TN; Claracy, age: 42, b: TN; Woodson, age: 18, b:
MO; Jonathon, age: 14, b: MO; William, age: 11, b: MO; James, age: 6, b: MO;
Narcissa, age: 17, b: MO; Missouri, age: 9, b: MO; America, age: 7, b: MO;
Jane, age 8/12, b: TX.
[Must have been confusing to have two boys the same age with the same name
living not too far apart. How did they ever know which Woodson everyone was
talking about...lol.]
Okay, so this is my thoughts so far. If it's nothing new, then just ignore.

I have never found any connection to Indian blood in my Cloud line. I am convinced it is there, but now know that I may never find it. I will let you know if anything ever turns up, but I wouldn't hold my breath - my family has been working on this for about 20 years - with no luck yet.
Don't know if I have written before. I am looking for a Ruth Cloud b. abt
1816 from Virginia or S. Carolina who married William Sturdivant in
Lunenburg, VA They had 2 children ----Shepherd Sturdivant b. 1842 & Martha
Frances Sturdivant b. 1841. I think she died between 1842 & 1850. William
moved onto Hamilton County IND and married Caroline Bowers Jackson. I think
he married her before he came to Hamilton Co., IN..
Does any of this information match anything of yours. I was very interested
because you mentioned a Rachel Cloud in Hamilton County, IN.

Have you been able to find any information on this White Cloud Indian connection? My great great grandfather was also William Cloud and my father was always told that they were Blackfoot Sioux decent. I have been unable to trace anything past James Cloud who was supposed to be my Williams father. Let me know if you have discovered anything.
Thanks

Dilly Frio Co. TX
Former Leander Citizen Dead
The Leona community was shocked and greived by the rather unexpected death
Thursday night of L.A. Cloud. Very few people knew Mr. Cloud was sick, and
even his near neighbors, who cared for him during his last illiness,
scarcely realized his condition. He finally consented about noon to notify
his relatives of his illness. Before any of them could reach him however,
death claimed him.
Lucius Albert Cloud, known to his family and boyhood associates as "Polk"
was born 12 October 1877 (Stone gives 11 October 1877, we had 1878)at
Leander Williamson Co. TX. Among the relatives he is survived by two
brothers, one residing in Stamford , TX, and the other in California., an
aunt, Mrs. George Mitchell (Barbara Emily Cloud Mitchell) of Pearsall, TX.
Mr.Cloud came to Frio Co. in 1916 and has resided in the Leona community
ever since. His father died when Mr. Cloud was an infant (1879), his mother
(Penelope Ann Floukes Cloud) passed away three years ago (3 August 1920) at
the home of Mr. Cloud, with whom she made her home. He was a good
neighbor...etc. laid to rest in the Dilly Cemetery.

Merriam Webster's Online defines it as:
Main Entry: 1con·sort
Pronunciation: 'kän-"sort
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin consort-, consors
partner, sharer, from com- + sort-, sors lot, share -- more at SERIES
Date: 15th century
1 : ASSOCIATE
2 : a ship accompanying another
3 : SPOUSE -- compare PRINCE CONSORT
So a husband/wife is a consort, but so is a business partner, a companion
ship, a friend, and a mistress.

Hi Margaret:
My CLOUD line data has been posted to the LDS Ancestor File and is available
on the Internet. However, it does not show the source data, which most
genealogists would like to have. Similar information is also available in my book
titled From Wagons To Spaceships; it has also been microfilmed by the LDS Library
in Salt Lake City, UT and is available on request at most LDS Family History
Centers.
Hopefully, I can have some spare time to work on making a GEDCOM file soon.
Do you wish to have a copy of the GEDCOM file when I finally get around to
making it?

Tom,
I started to suggest using the MyFamily.com Cloud Genealogy web site as
a repository for the files of interest, but I checked and didn't find
that you were signed up. I first signed up for this in 2000 at Dusty
Cloud's suggestion, but at that time it appeared to be slow and choked
with advertising, and so we effectively abandoned it. Recently I paid a
modest fee to MyFamily.com to expand the server space and reduce
advertising, and it seems to work pretty well now. I've added folks, but
I was thinking that you were a part of the original group. Anyway, I'll
be sending you an invitation to sign up (free) and take a look when you
get a chance.
I hope Sara's doctors can quickly find the cause for her pain and an
effective remedy.
Best wishes,
Cec

Hi Folks:
I have had three requests for a GEDCOM file on my CLOUD ancestors. They
settled in Madison Co. AL during the early 1800s. They migrated there from
Fairfield Co. SC. Earlier CLOUD ancestors were from VA.
I hope to get the CLOUD GEDCOM file ready for dispatch soon, perhaps within a
week. If you would like a Internet copy, please let me know soon and I will
try to send you a copy attached to an email. If it is too big for an e-mail
attachment, I will need your snail mailing address; so please add it to your
response.
