Hi, saw you message. I too am searching for African American Clouds. My anscestors were born/raised in Chester,South Carolina. My ggfather's name was Roseboro Cloud. He married Janie Dunham and they had twelve children(10 boys, 2 girls) and they later moved to Winston-Salem, NC. I found his name on the 1910 census in SC. His mother's name is listed as Mary Cloud but father is unknown. There is native american blood in our line somewhere but I'm not sure where. Do you hve any info you can share?
Thanks,

My grandmother's maiden name was Cloud. Her grandparents were, Augustus and Anna Cloud. I just went to the library today and got this information out of some old newspaper microfilm. Augustus died July 17, 1908 at his home, in rural Allen County. He was buried in the Iola Township Cemetary, that is on the Allen and Woodson county line, just east of Piqua, Ks. Anna died March 9, 1913, at the same farm home as Augustus. She too was buried at the Iola Township Cemetary. If you need more info, just e-mail me
Suzy, what are the names of your Cloud ancestors? What are the times and
locations? I am searching for Clouds with Indian ancestry, too.

there may have been an uncle named John. I am unable to trace this family
further back than 1850, this leads me to wonder if Cloud may have been a
shortened version of something else, for all of the information I find on
the name Cloud anywhere, I can not find a connection to my Clouds. I sure

Mary,
I saw that you have Cloud's in your family. I am researching a Cloud family and wondered if the names John, James, or Abner were in your family. I know there are many John's and Jame's, and a few Abner's out there but I have been unable to connect mine to them. I have many other names too, they date back to 1850. Maybe we can make a connection?
Please reply soon

Hi, I just came across your reply to another message and you say that your wife is a Cloud and has ancestors from Missouri. I am researching a Cloud family from Missouri, I wonder if there may be a connection? I have quite a list of names, I would be willing to give to see if there is a connection. How many generations do you have in Missouri? What area of Missouri are her ancestor's from? Please reply soon.

Thanks for your reply. I have so far found this on only 1 of John's (1 I have DC on) children. When I list Red Cloud (2 words) my genealolgy program lists names alphabetically as Cloud, when Redcloud, lists as Redcloud. Possible party originating records thought Cloud was last name. Persons I know with incorrect birth names (all born 1930's) had birth records corrected 1990's. Family was always known by Red Cloud, not Cloud, as far as I can remember back in 1940's. Other members of John's family may have had same name problem. I went by wrong spelling of my name for about 40yr before had corrected. I've found John on 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930 census, listing different birth states for him & John/Lawrence, none MO, but that doesn't rule out a Cloud/Red Cloud connection. I would like to know about John. Do you know where in MO your John was born? The Red Cloud's I'm researching are from southern IL. Hope to hear from you soon. dja.
