Problem
Incidents of the Klez Internet worm are increasing. Home users are also at increased levels of risk. The current version, W/32/Klez.h@MM, was discovered "in the wild" on April 17, though other variants were reported earlier in the year. The spread of W32/Klez.h within the past few days has been alarming.
Klez arrives as an email message with a subject, body text and attachment name selected at random. In copies of Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express that have not been patched to prevent automatic execution, simply viewing the message will cause it to activate and infect the computer. Windows users are urged to go to Windows Update,

to install all the critical and recommended patches.
Once the worm infects a computer, it mails itself to addresses in the Windows Address Book (if you don't use Explorer/Outlook for email, this is no problem for you). Klez has the ability to disguise the FROM field by selecting an address found on the victim's computer. A mass-mailing worm, it selects email addresses from files found on the victim's hard drive and uses those addresses to "spoof" or disguise the actual source, so the apparent victim may not be the actual sender. This form of identity theft is sowing confusion and distrust.

It is *NOT* an anti-virus tool. Opening the attachment will infect your computer with the worm.

The worm is able to propagate over the network by copying itself to network shares. Any Windows computer using personal file sharing or acting as a file server is vulnerable to infection.
Klez attempts to disable common anti-virus scanning programs such as McAfee VirusScan, Symantec Antivirus and F-Secure Sophos to prevent discovery.
Klez also infects the victim's computer with the Elkern virus. (This virus may be detected by anti-virus software as NGVCK.a.) The Elkern virus randomly infects executable files on the local machine and network shares and replaces the contents of these files with random characters to maintain the original file size. This will cause most systems to crash and at the very least destroy critical operating system files.
** ** In the more recent variants of Klez, the worm also sends document files taken from the victim's hard drive. This can result in the disclosure of sensitive or confidential information.
If you believe your computer may be infected with the worm, immediately:
1. Disconnect your computer from any network.
2. Update your virus protection software.
3. Follow the instructions from the provider of your virus protection software to make sure the worm is entirely removed from your machine.
Failure to follow the instructions to the letter may result in incomplete worm removal and/or damaged files.
4. If you are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1 or 5.5 Service Pack 1, go to:

Still looking for a Mary Eliza (Elisa) Cloud b. abt. 1800-1810 d. 1868. Only found her i n 2 census 1830 and 1840 with spouse Daniel St John (Sension , Sinjin). We are looking at the Ulster Co.,NY area.

I've "rescued" an old photograph which I believe may be of Ethel CLOUD taken
at the Smith Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph is of two young
girls, probably in their early teens, taken about 1910. In addition to this
photograph there is also another photo taken at the same studio of an older
(look to be in their 60's at the time) man and woman, probably husband and
wife which is unidentified. I'm thinking they maybe grandparents to Ethel
or the other girl in the photo??
Another photograph taken at the Artisto Studio in Knoxville, Iowa includes a
woman who looks very much like one of the young girls in the Chicago
photograph. I believe this might be a photograph of her parents since the
photograph appears to be older than the Chicago photo. The man in this
photograph could very well be the son of the older Chicago couple also.
To add to the mystery, these photographs were recovered along with others
which may be related including photographs belonging to the PHILLIPS, LOWE,
HORTON, WIMER, SANDERS, and OLSON families with photos originating from New
Sharon, Iowa; Barnes City, Iowa; and Lenox, Iowa; The handwriting on some
appears to have been made by the same person so I do believe there is some
connection between the people in the photographs, just don't know what that
might be.
I'm hoping to return the photographs to the families if possible. Another
of the photographs appears to be addressed to Mary E. OLSON while another
photo refers to the subject being a "shoe clerk" leading me to believe the
person who possessed the photographs may have owned a store. If you are a
member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.

M. Cloud.
I have the following information for you on the parents of David M Cloud he
was born in 1839 his parents were David Cloud (1807- abt 1878) and Mary Jane
Scott (nfi); his father was John Cloud (abt 1769- ?) m Ann McGuigen; his
father was Mordecai Cloud. Most of this information I got thru the Cloud
Family Asso.
I do have proof of David and Mary Jane being David M.'s Parents thru the
1840, 50 & 60 census'. I do have further information on this family, as his
youngest brother, William H. Cloud was my great grandfather and his older
brother James S was my step great grandfather.

I was looking over old queries and wondered if you ever found any more on your Jeremiah Marion Cloud? I have lost a Jeremiah Cloud, brother to my gr grandfather John C Cloud.
My Jeremiah Cloud was the son of Mary Griffin and John C Cloud Sr. He was born after the 1860 census. John C Cloud Sr died in 1868. Mary bought land on her own and after her death the children sold it. Amond the signers was Jeremiah Cloud. In 1882 in Milam Co TX land records, Jeremiah Cloud signed an affadavit saying that he was now "of legal age" and reaffirmed his signing the deed....so he must have been born shortly after the 1860 census.
I have never been able to trace him any further. I have never found him on the 1880 census.
John Cloud Sr was a son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Cloud. That Jeremiah and Elizabeth had son named Marion....and I see the middle name of your Jeremiah was Marion. Also in reading the queries I see where someone said that he married a lady whose mother was an Edwards. Johns C Cloud Sr had a grand daughter who married an Edwards and they all lived in and around Comanche Co TX.

I am doing research on my Husband Gregory Line. The family story goes That his G. G. Grandfather was on the Trail of Tears. His father and mother died on the trail and he was left alone. One of the soldiers adopted him and he took the soldiers name. Cary William Gregory born 1832 in IL. He married a Cherokee girl Phebe Phelps in 1849 in AR. They had several children his grandmother being one of Them Lucy Ann Gregory born in 1857.
He married second another Indian woman and had 6 more kids. He died 1899 in I. T. now OK. His second wife died and left those kids orphaned.
I know that some of the Cloud's were also on the Trail of Tears. Has any one heard a family story simular to this one.
Any inforamation would be appreciated.

Homer Dell Cloud, 80, died at 10:14 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, in Terre
Haute Regional Hospital. He was a retired electronic technician from the
Federal Aviation Association. He was born June 8, 1921, in Bonne Terre, Mo.,
to Marion Cloud and Laura Henson Cloud. Survivors include his companion,
Judy Cloud Thompson of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Olive Cloud of Bonne
Terre; five nephews, Robert Cloud, Stewart Cloud, John Cloud, David Yates,
Barton Yates and his wife Bonnie; and two nieces, Cynthia Catron and Karen
Hafner. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Verna Linhorst
and Naomi Yates; two brothers, Robert Cloud and Glenwood Cloud; and two half
sisters, Lida Hollon and Ethelean Beck. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in C.Z.
Boyer & Sons Funeral Home, 313 Benham St., Bonne Terre, with the Rev. John
Hoos officiating. Burial is in St. Francois Memorial Park. Visitation is 10
a.m. until services Monday. DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
