Laura, part of this is a typo on my part ....
I have the first-born child (who survived) of William Jasper CLOUD
and Elizabeth Jane BOYD to be Rebecca Elizabeth "Becky" Cloud.
Her death certificate lists her as Becky Springer, having m.
Henry Springer.
The notes copied from her Bible in 1943 by her daughter, Jodia,
give her name as Rebecka Ann Elizabeth Cloud (not sure if there's
two n's in Ann or just one)

I am really not sure of anything at this point and
when I look at letters and postcards, it could be
Ferguson. The back of the photo does clearly spell
it "er" but asked my cousin Wynell who's picture
it is and she said she really didn't know which was
right. I have sent some letters out to people in
Milam County with the name spelled Ferguson
since there were no listing for the "er" spelling.
I hope to get down that way and check out the
cemetery and courthouse records. Daddy said he
thought his g.father's name was Jeff but could have
been Joseph. He must have died shortly after
grandmother was born because of the date of
marriage to Mr. Springer and Rebecca in 1872.
My grandmother would have been 2 years old.
Thanks for all the help but sometimes I wonder
what have I gotten myself into. One of my friends
told me I had caught the virus and there was no
cure. Just have to keep digging I guess.

My g.grandmother came with her family to Texas in 1852 at
the age of 3 years from Montgomery County Alabama. They
first settled in Washington County and later moved to Milam
County about 1858 or 1859. My g.grandmother married a
Fergurson about 1868 or 1869 and a daughter, my grandmother,
Joseph Ann Fergurson was born in 1870. I have no record of
where they lived when first married but do have family letters
from some Fergurson's from Rockdale, Tx. in 1941.
I would like to have any information about the Fergurson family
from Milam County, Texas if possible.

I am trying to find some of the Fergersons that may be
related to my family by marriage.
My G.grandmother Rebecca Cloud Fergerson married
a man named Fergerson in/about 1868 and had a daughter
in 1870. I have been told his name might have been
Jeff. I have old pictures of some Fergerson men with
a Nettleton Uncle of mine, names are Willie Don and
George Fergerson Any help will be appreciated..
Grover & Hattie Cloud both died in Tennessee on the same day in 1935. Ancestors may trace to immigrants coming into Pa. They were my granparents. My father's name was Edgar Cloud. (DOD 9/1/00) He may also have gone by Raymond or Edward, and may have used surname McCloud. Any information would be appreciated. Cloud reunion in Sept. If you think you may be related, please contact me.

Hi, You might want to start at the Native American Genealogy Website at
http://members.aol.com/bbbenge/front.html.
The agency of the U.S. government that oversaw Red Cloud's band of Lakota
was called the Red Cloud Agency. All the records of the agency were turned
over to the BIA and now reside with the National Archives. My guess is that
those records are held in the Seattle Repository of the National Archives.
The total records should amount to many feet of shelf space. As Red Cloud
was the principal chief, a wealth of information about him should appear in
those records. You may be able to access some of them with the National
Archives Information Locator (NAIL) on the National Archives website
(http://www.nara.gov). Click through to the research area and find the NAIL
search engine. Sometimes you can get to it directly with
http://www.nara.gov/nara/searchnail.html.
Many books have been written about Red Cloud. The Native American
Genealogy Website mentioned above has a section dealing with bookstores that
specialize in Indian books.
In addition there are federal Indian census records that were taken on
Pine Ridge from the late 1800's through the early 1900's, which should turn
up some of his descendants. Those records are available through the National
Archives.
If you want to contact the Oglala Nation directly, here is the address:
Oglala Sioux Tribal Council
Pine Ridge, SD 57770
(605) 867-5821
fax (605) 867-5582
If you haven't already, you might want to visit the rez. if you don't
know anyone there, a good time might be during one of the pow wows. You can
get to know some people directly. Pow wows can take place at any time, but
May, June, and August are popular times. The tribal office will be able to
tell you times.
I hope that helps.

I found on the birth certificate of my father-in-law, Samuel Lloyd
Cloud (b1926) that his birth parents were Dorsey Lee Cloud and Clovis Jewell
King. Clovis(called Jewell) died around 1929 and Dorsey remarried to Berda
L.. Dorsey also moved from Marshfied, MO to Stockton Cailfornia in 1933. I
hope this helps someone.
I'm doing some research on my wife's behalf (Toma Lynn Cloud) and
I've started working the Cloud line back. Dorsey Lee Cloud was my wife's
grandfather. This is what I have so far: Dorsey was born in Arkansas in 1895
to Wallace George (sometimes listed as George Wallace) Cloud and Susan Martin
(b.March 1872). Dorsey married around 1914 to one Clovis Jewell King(b1902)
and had four children: Ellen Orene (b1915), Elmer Otis(b1917), Wallace George
(b1923) and Samuel Lloyd (b1926). Wallace is the only one still living.
Dorsey originally traded in livestock but turned to selling cars when they
made their appearance. Dorsey was the first of seven children. The rest are:
Verlie(b.Jan1897), Wilbur Austin (b.Nov 1898), Bertha (b.1903), Louisa
(b.1904), Hazel (b.1906) and Mary L.(b.1908) I haven't run down yet when he
made the move to Stockton. That's about all I know so far of Dorsey Cloud.
Dorsey's father, Wallace George Cloud was born in Marshfield in
Webster County, MO in May of 1869 to Leander Polk Cloud and Mary Evans. I
know very little of Wallace and Mary except that he spent most of his life as
a farmer. Wallace, I think, had only one sister named Willie (b1867).
Leander Polk Cloud is one of the more interesting Cloud personalities
I've found. He was born in 1845 in Marshall County, Alabama. At the age of
18, in 1863, he was arrested by the existing pro-Union government of Webster
County for "aiding and abetting" pro-Southern sympathizers and had to put up
a $1000 bond before they let him out with the provision that he not talk to
or in any way, shape or form aid anyone involved in activities against the
Union. In the Census for 1870 he labels himself as "insane". He died in 1891
and Mary died in 1921.
Here's where things get a bit cloudy (pardon the pun). I think Leander P.
Cloud's father is also named Leander Cloud (b.1823) but I'm not sure. Leander
and Leander P. are listed together in the Webster County Census for 1860 but
not Leander P's mother, Mary A. Cloud. Leander P. Cloud is listed with Mary
A. Cloud (b.1809) in the Marshall County Census for 1850 but not Leander
Sr....he's living up in Claiborne County, Tennessee. There is also a 14 year
age gap between Leander Sr.and Mary A. Cloud. Leander had four siblings:
Angeline (b.1835), Matilda (b.1838) Mary A. (b.1841) and William (b.1848).
That's about all I know so far on the Clouds. i hope that helps.

Good Evening,
The Tulsa Genealogical Pub. Lib. has a great selection on the Indian
history. I would suggest that you contact them or if you are in that area
of the U.S., go there and just search.
