Hi Cynthia,
I am looking for some of my family in Clouds Cove also. New Hope, Hobbs
Island, and Elon all must be small towns. My grand father was born in Clouds
Cove back in the 1800's and his sister lived in all these places. I have
contacted the some of the Clouds on the Clouds root web, but still have not
made the connection yet.
I am not sure about any Hill's in our family but there are Clouds, Sewells,
Howards, and Barnnets (or Bernnets). If any any of these names ring a bell
please let me know.
Thank you
Jack

I'll also email you but just in case you check here, Noah Cloud was Cherokee according to Cherokee by Blood. He was twenty three in about 1903 and was admitted with his brother Henry L Cloud and his two children. Degree of blood was one half. I believe they were the children of Samuel Cloud and Lucy Tadpole, if I'm interpreting correctly. And the Indian blood came from Lucy, not Samuel, the Cloud name probably was an Anglicized version of McCloud, in this situation. Samuel's brother James was my gggrandfather. You can reach me at erpljc(a)hotmail.com
I hope since this is such an old listing that you are still looking and checking the site. My father is the great-grandson of James and Martha through their son Charles Clifton. I know quite a bit about Martha's history, her family is well documented but I have had little success with James Monroe other than to find he probably had a brother named Samuel and probably was Quaker. If you get this, please reply; I really am interested in the Clouds.
Sorry you missed the Cloud Family Association Gathering last July. It included a tour of Cloud's Cove. Here is a quick virtual tour: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/2000/pages/map_ccove.html Hobb's Island is just downriver
from Cloud's Cove. It is now uninhabited and is very close to the Marina of the City of Huntsville.

I have just discovered that the SSA is raising the price by 286% for the most valuable tool that genealogists request, the SS-5 form, Original Application for SS Number...
It is going up from its present $7 to $27, effective 1 July 2001.
Reference: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm#_Toc517745431
This is untenable, since many people who do genealogy are older retired
folks on fixed income... and this large increase appears to be intended to discourage the public from access to documents under the Freedom of
Information Act.
How can it cost $27 to receive a request, then make and mail a copy of the one page document??? ...Government is not intended to be making a
profit... The $7 seems high, when you actually evaluate the task...and
Researching costs more...Could it be that they have some awfully high paid clerks...and/or interns...???
Since anything can be proven by statistics, I don't believe their
"analysis" but you might want to make your representatives in Congress aware of this...

Carolyn,
Wish I could be of more help but the only info I have on the Clouds is that Lucinda married Henry West. I was searching the West side of our family when I found that and haven't started on the Cloud side at all. If I should find anything I will be sure to post a message so I can share it with you.
Best Wishes in your search.

Does anyone know how far back Virginia's marraige records go? What would be

Beth,
Thank you for the very interesting email with Jeremiah Cloud's will and the
other emial with his progeny. I would like to ask you or any other members
of this list serve if there is information connecting this Jeremiah, or any
of his siblings with a later Jeremiah (revolutionary soldier) who was the
father of both Ezekiel Cloud (also revolutionary soldier) and Mary Cloud
Elliott. Both Mary and Ezekiel died in Henry County, Georgia.
I think I have mentioned it before here but it is worth telling again. For
some reason Mary Cloud Elliott occupies an myth-like place in the story of
the very large clan of Elliotts in Henry County, Georgia. It has always
interested me that the Elliotts there think of their roots as being more with
Mary than with her husband who died before she and her children setteled in
Henry County. And this is true in spite of the fact that there are really no
stories about her personally in the oral traditions of the family except what
she said about where and how she wanted to be burried. A rather large private
cemetary for her decendents has grown up around her grave.
The detail about her burial that was passed on was that she never wanted rain
ro fall on her grave. As a result a Gazebo like structure was erected over
her plot and remained standing until August,1968 when a tornado destroyed it.
In contrast her brother's grave was in another part of Henry county, stood
alone, and its location was lost when a small private airplane landing strip
was constructed.
If any of you will happen to be in near Henry County, Georgia between July
27th and August 7th you are welcome to come to Shingleroof Campmeeting.
Click on <A HREF="http://www.shingleroof.org/">Shingleroof</A> or go to www.shingleroof.org It is a
week-long gathering what we have attended every year since 1830.
Ask for Tent # 35 , the Elliott tent (it is actually a cottage. ) You will
find many decendents of Mary Cloud there.
Thanks so much for any information you might have connect Mary Cloud Elliott
with the Jeremiah of the recent email.
Your cousin,
Joe Paul (great-great-great grand child of Mary Cloud Elliott).
Good Evening,
This is all of the Cloud information that I have at this time.
I am interested in your Elliott family line in so far as it might connect to
the Elliotts that were in Russell Co., VA. and then migrated to @ Hawkins
Co., Tenn.

not. If you do have them, would you please post them.
This is all that I have at this time. Does anyone have information on

Just this little data more before starting the begets and begats and diedy.
There appeared Robert Pyle one of the witnesses within named and upon his
soleom affirmation did declare he saw the within named William Cloud sign.
There was a note stateing that others interested in the children of William
Cloud, other than Jeremiah should referr to Pond. What is meant I do not
know. Does someone out there know? If so, please let us know.
Now. Jeremiah Cloud 1658 - 1717.
He was the sixth child of William. He came from England to America with his
parents.
He married Elizabeth Bailey in 1685. In 1713, he was selected by his
brothers, a the one to whom the new patent, for 500 acres, originally
purchased by their father William Cloud in 1681, should be confirmed. On
Feb. 15, 1713, he conveyed 200 acres of this land to his brother John Cloud.
It is thought that Elizabeth BAiley mayh have been a widow of Joel Bailey,
nephew of the first Joel BAiley to come to America or perhaps a daughter of
Joel and Ann (Short) Bailey . Elizabeth Bailey, Jeremiah Cloud's wife, was
spoken of as "probably a near relative" of Joel Bailey of Westbrook Parish,
Wiltshire Co., England. Daniel Bailey, JOel Bailey's brother, a weaver. In
1681 bought 125 acres in Birmingham Twp., Chester Co., Pa. but did not come
to America. However, Joel Bailey acted as Daniel Bailey's attorney in the
sale of his land to John Bailey.
Well here we go on the begets and begats data. Sorry that some of this
will be repeat for some of you.
Jeremiah Cloud and Elizabeth Bailey had the following children.
William Cloud was born @ 1690 and he died in 1748 in Brandywine Hundred, New
Castle Co., Pa. He married Miss Elizabeth Hayes @ 1710 Elizabeth was born
@ 1701. kWilliam died Feb. of 1749 in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle Co.,
Pa.
John Cloud was born @ 1692 in Pa. He died in 1764 and married a lady called
Sarah @ 1717. Sarah was born @ 1699.
Sarah Cloud was born @ 1693 in Pa. She married John Baldwin @ 1711 and
died @ 1729.
Hannah Cloud was born @ 1694 in Pa. and married first Caleb Prew in 1716.
She then married John Baldwin in 1729 and she died later the same year. I
think that John was her sister Sarah's husband.
Mordecai Cloud was born @ 1697 in Rockland Manor, New Castle Co., Pa. He
died in 1745 in East Marlborough Twp., Chester Co., Pa. He married dfirst
Sarah Chads on Feb. 12, 1714 in Philadelphia, Pa. Sarah was born @ 1696 and
died @ 1736 in East Marlborough Twp., Chester Co., Pa. He married second
Abigail - Johnson - Wickersham - Bailey, Nov. 30, 1738, in Kennett Twp.,
Chester Co., Pa. Abigail was born @ 1703 and died in 1758 in East
Marlborough, Pa.
Daniel Cloud was born @ 1700 in Pa. and died in 1723. No other information.
Elizabeth Cloud was born @ 1706 in Pa. Sddhe married Joseph Hayes in 1724.
Elizabeth died in 1748. So far no other information.
Jeremiah Cloud 1658 - 1717 was a cordwainer, a worker in leather.
In the 1687 taxables of Brandywine Hundreeed the following were included:
William Cloud
Joseph Cloud
Joseph Cloud Jr.
Matjamoe; C;pid
John Askew
Parker Askew
Thomas Jones
I do not know at this time how the last three on this list figure into the
Cloud family.
I will send this and then the next posting will be of Jeremiah's will.

Thanks for your response. Do you or does anyone you know have any genealogy
on your great grandfather's family? Did any of his family live in Texas
or Tennessee? Look at the Cloud line on my website (Click on the "Descendents

familiar to you? Please let me know one way or the other...I'm still hoping

which is a possibility. I recommend that you join the RootsWeb Cherokee-L
mailing list. I got a LOT of good information from that list. They pass
along lots of sites with Indian information that you wouldn't normally
think of. Good Luck!! By the way, does anyone out there know of any Cloud
men who married Indian women? My search just rotated about 180 degrees.
