There is a discrepancy in deed book records of Sullivan County, TN,
listing the heirs of Jeremiah Cloud.
Deed Bk. 11, pg. 311 lists the children as being: Isaac, Benjamin,
Sarah, Mary, Henderson, George, Francis, Elisa, and Louisiana.
Deed Bk. 13, pg. 11 lists the children as being: Benjamin, Henderson,
George, Francis, Joseph, Eliza, Lucy Ann (Louisiana), Sarah, and Medinea
(possibly Mary). Joseph does not appear in the first entry and Isaac
does not appear in the second entry. Can anyone shed any light on this
discrepancy?

I have searched my data and cannot find any clue to your folks, I had one
other Huddleston, but did not see any indicationof a connection. Hope some
here can help you. Let me know should you uncover these folks, would
certainly want to include them in the database.

I have data indicating that Jeremiah Huddleston Cloud, born 1768 VA is the
son of either:
Jason Cloud and Sarah Haley or Jason Cloud and Lydia Piersol.
Anyone have anything more definitive that I can use to place Jeremiah with
the correct parents?

Leslie, thank you for notifying us of this (I am admin for the
CLOUD email list) .... but I did not receive any virus attached
to the post -- nor did I get any notification of one from rootsweb.
... to those who are interested, it is highly unlikely that any
virus will be sent to you from this particular email group (or, for
that matter, any of the rootsweb genealogical email groups). This
is for two reasons:
1 - all messages are text only (no imbedded "macros")
2 - no attachments are allowed (no attached executables)

Leslie,
Upon receipt of you letter, I scanned all my files with Norton Anti-Virus Scan. All files were clean. Maybe you should look for another source.
Good look, Gary
Wondering if anyone knows who a James Cloud might be in early Twiggs Co., Ga. In 1813 he was commissioned as an ensign in the 323rd district company. In 1818 he was on a Twiggs tax roll and mentioned as a landowner in a 1819 deed.
Would appreciate any information about this person.
Thanks, Gary Cloud

Harry, I may have stumbled on to something. I was browsing in Ken's
wonderful CD and came across a Sullivan County, TN Deed Record found in
CFJ Vol. XV, No. 2, pg. 45. It is the settlement of Jeremiah Cloud's
estate and it lists among the heirs a Sarah McCall, formerly Sarah Cloud
(I presume a daughter of Jeremiah). I suddenly had a flash of light.
McMinn County, TN Deed Book F, 1838-1840, pg. 19 contains the record of
the sale of eighty acres of land by Sarah McCall to (my) George W.
Cloud. This ties him hand and foot with the Clouds of upper East TN. I
still don't know why he remained in Stokes County, NC in 1830 when all
the other Cloud families had moved on. Now, I've got to make a trip
down the pike to Athens and see what I can learn about Sarah McCall.
Was she an aunt to George W. Cloud? The plot thickens.

The article you are requesting is in the McClung library, Knoxville, TN. I have
a copy and am willing to send it to you, if you will send me your mailing
address. My scanner is broken or I would transmit it electronically. A word of
caution. Some of us who have researched the Clouds of East TN have a few
problems reconciling our findings with certain contents of this article.

Karen -- I know that the local history and genealogy room at the library
in Rogersville has a copy of the Owings paper on her Cloud family
history, but I don't think it bears the title you have. I imagine the
Kingsport library would also have copies of whatever she may have
written on the subject. Harry
I am looking for the publication/compilation entitled: "Jeremiah of Sullivan
County, Tennessee, his ancestry and known descendents" by Elizabeth Steadman
Ownings.
If anyone has a copy of this - or knows how to get a copy, I would greatly
appreciate it. I found it listed in the DAR library and need a copy. I will
gladly pay expenses in advance for a copy.
