I am looking for information on any descendants of James F. Cloud (1810 -
1890) who married Laura Ann Tebbs in 1833 and resided in Indiana
Thanks, Bob Kebler
Please pass this on!
For those of you with roots in Macon County, AL :
THESE ARE THE RULES FOR WRITING AND SUBMITTING STORIES
FOR MACON COUNTY, ALABAMA HERITAGE BOOK
DEADLINE DATE: MAY 31, 2001 (Date has been extended)
1. ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT:
Anyone who lives in Macon County or whose family or ancestors ever lived
here, even for a little while or interested in writing
about the history of Macon County or some famous person in the history of
Macon County or the history your business or church or any historical place
in Macon County. You never know, someone researching your line may see your
article and contact you with tons of information and pictures. You can
cross-reference an article. For instance if you have a Civil War era
ancestor and a letter he wrote about his experiences, put his family history
in a "Family" article, and within that article, reference his Civil War Era
experiences and you can put this into our "Topical" article section. There
are two sections: Family and Topical.
2 . HOW MUCH INFORMATION TO SUBMIT:
A 1000 words for free if the person or family was in Macon County before
1890 and two photos published for free. If you can't cover the information
for your article in 1000 words, break the story in 2 parts and write:
example: about pioneer settler John Doe and wife and John Doe, Jr., siblings
in one story of 1000 words and John Smith II and descendants as another
story of 1000 words. If the person or family was not in Macon County until
after 1890, you may submit 500 words and 1 photo for free.
3. HOW MANY STORIES:
You may write about all of your and all of your spouse's different ancestral
families, your Doe side, Green side, Smith side, etc. Theoretically, one
person is supposed to submit only one story, but in reality one person is
submitting many stories but sometimes in the names of other family members
as brother or sister, aunt or uncle, mother or father, etc. Some are
submitting them in names of minor children. At end of story list the name of
the submitter and then list Written by and your names. If You have more than
one story to share about your family.
4. INFORMATION TO WRITE IN YOUR FAMILY HISTORY:
This is up to the writer. Most of us are emphasizing genealogy, but to some
that is "as boring as all the begets in the Bible,"
and if the writer prefers to write non-genealogical family stories which
have been told to him/her, that is perfectly OK. It's not necessary to write
about ancestors at all. The writer can tell about himself/herself and spouse
and children, childhood, school, church, jobs, etc. Write for the future,
what you would like your grandchildren and great-grandchildren to read.
"Professional writing ability" is not a requirement. These are grassroots
histories and the fact that they are written by real people actually
enhances their value.
5. THE STORY AND PHOTO INSTRUCTIONS:
The publisher requests that all material be TYPED DOUBLE-SPACED. At the end
of the story should be the WORD COUNT, SUBMITTED BY: name and address of
person submitting the story, WRITTEN BY: name and address of person writing
the story, SOURCES: sources of information, etc., CAPTION FOR PHOTO: LIMITED
TO TEN WORDS to go under the photo.
EXAMPLE:
WORD COUNT: 995
SUBMITTED BY: Name and address
WRITTEN BY : Name and address
SOURCES: Census, Bible, court, land and deed records, marriage and death and
cemetery records, etc.
CAPTION FOR PHOTO: John and Mary Jones, 1889
Photos may be any size up to 8x10 but will be reduced in size to go in the
book. DON'T SEND ORIGINAL PHOTOS. Make a copy at your local Wal-Mart,
Kinko's Office Depot or somewhere. Photos will be returned if the submitter
sends a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Place your address label on the
back of the picture, also.
6. SUBMISSION OF OTHER INFORMATION:
You may submit separately for a different part of the book, copies of old
documents such as a letter written by a Confederate
soldier or a letter within by Aunt Elsie who moved to Texas to a family
member in Macon Co. or vice-versa. The book will have stories about old and
current: homes, churches, schools, clubs, communities, organizations, railed
station, landmarks, jobs, holiday and/or family traditions, special
memories. Anything you think future generations might want to know about
Macon County. If you have any sort of old document or interesting history,
please submit it.
You do not lose any copyright rights to your original material. So, if you
choose to publish later and use the same material, that is not a problem.
DATES MAY BE WRITTEN: John Smith (10/15/1811-04/06/1882) instead of counting
as eight words if you wrote born and died. This counts as one word. Any date
can be written like: 10/15/1811 and this counts as one word.
7. MAIL STORIES TO:
Mail your stories and or payment if ordering a book to:
MACON COUNTY HERITAGEBOOK COMMITTEE,
c/o Lanice P. Middleton,
1304 Gregory Street,
Tuskegee Institute, AL 36088
8. COST:
There is no cost to submit any family history unless you go over the limit
on words. If you go over much, it is supposed to cost 15 cents per word.
All counties in Alabama are producing HERITAGE BOOKS.
The prepublication cost of the Macon COUNTY BOOK IS $59.00. This includes
$4.00 tax and $5.00 shipping and handling. If you want to buy it at that
price you should do so before August 31, 2000. (The price has increases in
most counties after publication date.) Payment for a copy of the book may be
made by Check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa. An order form is included
in the Macon Co. Heritage book Brochure which is mailed to everyone
requesting it. This is our final deadline for submitting stories. Most
counties required more than one deadline, and Macon County is no exception.
Jefferson County has had three different deadlines.
9. CHECK OUT THIS SITE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION;
This is the Heritage Publishing Co.'s web site.http://heritagepublishing.net
You may e-mail Heritage Publishing at heripubcon(a)aol.com or you may email
Lanice P. Middleton at middleton(a)acd.tusk.edu for further information. If
you want a Macon Co. Heritage book brochure mailed to you, you should send
me, Lanice P. Middleton, at middleton(a)acd.tusk.edu mailing address.
10. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE: There have been a number of instances when someone
called or mailed in their article(s) to other counties just after the book
contents have gone off to the publisher. They were disappointed and we are
all poorer for not having that valuable family history, business, school,
church, etc. This is your chance to have your family recorded in a book that
will be located in most of the libraries in the United States.

Hi all,
My research has taken me down another line to William A. Cloud m. to Mary
Elma Windle on 7 Feb.1867. I've descended from Joseph Good Cloud (1831),
the "Black Sheep" (my ggg-grandfather) and I am trying to rule out or identify
a picture of his brother Wm. A. Cloud (1839) in a Union uniform dating
around 1864. I don't know of any children or anyone looking into that line
that may be interested in this picture. I'll be happy to forward on. I
would appreciate any leads in this area and sharing info. with anyone going
down my line. Clouds from PA: Walter J.III (1939-1993), Walter J.Jr.(still
alive), Walter J.Sr.(1883-1972), William H. (1860-1904), Joseph Good (1831),
etc.
Thanks, Kathy

I'm still looking for information on John H. Cloud born about 1854 either
in Chester Co. PA or New Castle Co. DE/PA. Married Anna Elizabeth Chandler
born Brandywine 100 New Castle DE 7 August 1858. Any help greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for information on my GGG Grandmother Mary Eliza(Elisa) Cloud b. abt. 1800-1810 d. 1868 . She married a Daniel St John b. 1800-1810
I find them in only 2 census 1830-1840 in Marlboro (Marlborough). Was told that she was FULL INDIAN . Don't know what tribe she came from only that she was Indian from Ulster co.,NY
And had two children: James H. St John b. abt. 1831 d. 1898
William P. St John b. 1842 d. 1864
Any info would be a great help.
Hi Jo,
HOORAY!!!!!!!!! I have finally located someone who is in my Cloud line. I
know that it is true, because your last name is listed in what I have on my
family tree. You are descended through James Frank Cloud, right? I also
have some letters and other things that you must have sent to my dad, C. G.
"Punk" Graham in Uvalde, Texas - your signature is on the letters. Do you
have a website? I AM SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! I have a website
where I have listed all the information I have about my Cloud line. Have
you ever been able to trace them back prior to 1850 Hopkins County? It
seems like they just dropped into Texas from nowhere. Please visit my
website and let me know if I have any incorrect or incomplete information
about your branch of the family. What do you know about the connection with
Indian ancestry? Have you ever found anything that would lead you to
believe that the Clouds were of Indian origin? Oh, I have SOOOOO MANY
questions!!!
My website URL is:
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/t/h/e/Janet-Graham-Theberge/
Thank you so much for contacting me on this - you don't know how much it
means to my family.
Janet

PS...just a piece of trivia for you. I now know that John Cloud change is
name to John Black by at least 1882. In 1882 he was living in a place
referred to as White Bead Hill. Suspect it would might be the area which is
now just referred to as White Bead. Mary Lou sent me copies of some Bill's
of Sale for cattle. One is dated 1882 and the other 1887. In both, he is
referred to as John Black.
