Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have printed out 11 x 17 copies of Lura Black's Excel spreadship of
Alabama townships -- the Excel file can be found at:
http://genweb.net/~cloud/AL
The printouts are on 11 x 17 paper (i.e. you can read it without a
magnifying glass) and her color highlighting has been retained.
There are 13 pages of maps. (The index is quite large but can be
printed on an ordinary printer.)
If any are interested in having copies of these printouts, I called
and got a quote of app $.70 per copy to $.55 per copy, depending on
how many copies are ordered.
Assuming a middle-of-the-road quantity (25 sets) would run $.60 per
page or $7.80 per set plus postage (I'm guessing $3.00 for postage).
..... so, for about $11.00 one could get a set of these land grant
maps Lura Black has made. .... I was hoping that some could be made
in time for the CFA gathering ??

Hi,
I am looking for information on my GG Grandmother. Her name was Emma
Cloud and she was full blooded Lenape Indian. She was born in 1866 in NJ. I
do not know her Fathers name, but her Mother was Jane Cloud. She married
Shepard Kosciusko Kollock(b.1855) and they lived in Red Bank, Monmouth
County, NJ. Emma died at the age of 49 which would have been approximately
1915. She is buried in the Greenlawn cemetery in West Long Branch, Monmouth,
NJ.
Supposedly in the 1700's to early 1800's the land where Newark Airport in
NJ now stands was farmed by the Cloud's. This land then went into the hands
of the Kollock family. As the American Indians had no deeds or legal proof
of property they were forced off the land when the construction of Newark
airport belongs
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Melissa

The above is from a most thorough researcher -- interesting that he believes
that George and Susan were actually CLOUDs and not FRANCISes .... perhaps
other children of James and Jennie McDADE ?? That would certainly fit,
with Mary b. 1830/32, Geo b. ca 1839 and Susan b. ca 1846 ??
This would imply that Joseph Francis did not have a previous marriage!
... though his age (28 when he married Mary, 15) indicates that he
certainly could have ..... he would have been 20 when George was born
and 27 when Susan was born.

Carol,
As I wrote earlier this morning, I do not believe that this Mary was
the dau of Jeremiah but rather his granddaughter, the daughter of his
son, James Cloud. (Assuming we are talking about Jeremiah Cloud,
b. ca 1784 GA d. 1861 TX). Jeremiah's eldest daughter was Mary, but
she was born ca 1810 and died before 1843 -- all in Alabama. She
married Joseph COBB ca 1825/26 and they lived their lives in Alabama.
This Mary Cloud, dau of James & Jennie McDADE CLOUD was b. ca 1832 AL
and m. Joseph W. FRANCIS 8-16-1847 in Austin cty TX.
This Joseph Francis was the brother of Jane b. 1812 and 1/2 brother to
Miller .... ??
Please tell me how your relative deduced that this Mary was the dau
of Jeremiah. I would also like to know his/her sources for the stated
children of Mary and Joseph Francis.

An update on the Cloud Family Gathering for 14-16 July:
Room reservations for the special $65 rate can still be made
by calling the hotel itself during normal business hours (8-5 CDT)
The response at Hilton's 800 number is now that the CLOUD
block is unavailable (closed, full, etc.). But, you can call
256)533-1400 and ask for "reservations" to still get
a room at the discounted rate. If there is a problem, ask
for our account manager, Jennifer Copeland. But, even
she is not likely to get you in for Sunday night.

Hello Sandi,
I couldn't find your e-mail address so I sent this to the list.
My nearest CLOUD ancestor was Betty CLOUD, daughter of Jeremiah CLOUD, III
and Lydia HARLAN, all of Chester Co, PA.
I don't know much about the CLOUD family of Chester Co., PA, but most of
what I do know came from the "History of Chester County, Pennsylvania" by
Futhey & Cope, 1881. On pg. 500 it lists 7 children of Jeremiah CLOUD [Jr.]
and Ann BAILY as follows: Elizabeth, Joel, William, Jeremiah [III],
Benjamin, Mordecai, and Rachel. This history is, of course, not without
discrepancies.
The strang thing about your message, was the part about Tabitha being
married in NC and then having her first daughter in DE. I'm descended from
a line of early Chester Co., PA settlers and lines of descent to me, did not
not leave Chester Co, until recent times (1900's).
Sorry I couldn't be of any any help, but I am in the process of editing and
corroborating my ancestral records and I may find more about this family.
Please contact me every few months, and I'll let you kmow about my progress.

I do not recognize the surnames you mention, but I'll pass the question
along to the Cloud list.
"Our Jeremiah Cloud", as a group of on-line researchers refer to this
common ancestor, said that he was born in Twiggs County, GA, in 1784+/-,
which was Indian Territory at the time. (There were apparently
English/American traders there, but some suggest that he may have been
born elsewhere.) He and wife Elizabeth had several children born in Twiggs
County and several born in Montgomery County (AL) after they moved there
in about 1825. The couple and some of their offspring moved on to Texas in
about 1845. Jeremiah died in TX in 1861. Daughters-in-law included those
from the McDade, Youngblood, and Bateman families. Youngblood researchers
say that Jeremiah Cloud was from the Edgefield District of SC. The goal of
our research group is to find out about the origin of our Jeremiah. One
confusion is that there were at least three Jeremiah Clouds in the area
during that era. I'd love to have further dialog with anyone having
interest and/or information relating to this.

Looking for information concerning life and death of Nancy Vinson Cloud who
died in Grant Co., IN in Sept 1880. I got the above from the mortality
records, but have been unable to come up with burial data, assume either
buried in Grant, or Madison Co. IN. Anybody out there have anything on
her, or suggestions to further my research. Thanks in advance.

Here is an example first-cut conversion:
http://genweb.net/~cloud/AL/13N20E.htm
This looked like an easy conversion, and then . . .
I have no idea why it decided to stretch out the middle third to five to ten
times the proper width, but it will obviously require either a lot of manual
clean up or a different approach.
It looks like a great set of data, but it may be a while before I can get to a
manual clean up. Maybe someone else will come up with a more strait forward
conversion.

Well, maybe I'm the only Cloud descendant who grew up in the depression and
remembers how hard it was to make ends meet. I didn't do the work on the
CD, and therefore can't evaluate the obvious amount of time and effort it
took to do the job - and many, many, thanks to Ken for doing it. However,
based on the prior efforts and contributions he has made, I'm sure he
didn't do it for money, but to make a contribution to the Cloud effort.
And, being a retired CPA, I recognize that there are costs which must be
recovered.
However, having said that, it seems to me to could attract more flies to
our Association with honey than the salt of what appears to be too much
difference in the cost to members and nonmembers. I personally would be in
favor of charging the same price to anyone who is interested in the Cloud
family, irrespective of whether they are members of the association or not.
As Ben Franklin once said: "I can't tell you the formula for success, but
I can tell you the formula for failure - try to please everybody!"
Regards to all from a depression baby! Al.

get things done more quickly then. haha

Subject: [CLOUD-L] Alabama land grant Map
Some time ago, Lura Black and I began investigating Alabama land patents/
grants, hoping they would help us in our research .... and we feel they
have (and will continue to do so).
I bowed out when Lura volunteered to do the work .... and a tremendous
job she's done.
I've not figured out how to get all of this data into html so that it
can be viewed on-line. ..... any suggestions would be much appreciated
Lura has put this into an excel document (about 850 k). I've zipped it
and put it onto our web site at
http://genweb.net/~cloud/AL/
just click on "ALA_Land.zip"
If you'll look at this, I think you'll agree she's done a truly fantastic
job! ..... now, I need some help making it usable for everyone.
.... does anyone know how to get a spreadsheet from Excel into a
graphic?
The Excel "convert to html" function just converts the spreadsheet into a
table and I don't think it will ever display properly on different browsers.
..... please look at what she's done -- and enjoy using it
