Dear Cecil,
God bless Uncle Jim and his family! I hope you will tell us more at the
Gathering about this gentle man. I met him once in Raleigh, NC and looked
forward to seeing him in Huntsville, Alabama. May the Holy Spirit be with
you all and give you peace about his passing.
Geraldine
Cec:
Please accept our deepest sympathy and know that Jim is in a better place now.
We know how hard this, but with faith in God everyone will make it thru it.
We will definitly have to make the Huntsville gathering special in his honor.
We are presently in Omaha with Joyce's sister who is awaiting a new heart soon we hope.
will be here about a month.
You take care and we'll talk more when we get home.

Cloud Cousins and Friends,
Sad news, but easy to reconcile as a blessing: Uncle Jim Cloud
(Huntsville, AL) died at apx. 11:00 a.m. CST Tuesday morning. He would
have turned 80 in May. Jim has been active in the Cloud Family
Association since its inception. (We belong to the branch of Jeremiah
Cloud (1784GA-1861TX).)
Please excuse the mode of address; I'm fouling up addresses too
frequently this morning to accomplish this on a more personal basis.
Jim had been going down hill at an accelerating rate over the past
couple of months, with several weeks spent in the hospital. This was
only his second time ever to be in the hospital and the first time ever
to spend more than a couple of days. It was a race between prostate
cancer and Alzheimer's. We got a call from the rehab/nursing facility at
about 3:15 a.m. that things were not looking good. I stayed with him
until he appeared to be resting at about 5:15. His wife Billie and
oldest daughter Carolyn stayed on.
No arrangements yet.
God bless Uncle Jim Cloud! Our efforts on the Cloud Family Gathering
will be dedicated to his memory.
More later.
Regards,
Cec

Gail -- Joel Cloud, one of the sons of Isaac and Sallie (Lankford) Cloud -- of
Rutherford>Polk Cos., NC -- had a son named Ransom. I don't have the son's
birth date, but Joel is believed to have born in the 1790s. He became a county
judge and played a role in the forming of Polk Co. out of Rutherford. There
were a number of posts on the subject late last year (as I

Gail, one of my nth-cousins has a daughter (b. 1916) married to
a Reed, but her maiden name was not Cloud (though her mother
was a Cloud). .... what dates are we working with, and locale
Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>
thanks for sharing this Laura......This sort of adds a little more to my
belief that my Decatur Clouds were connected to the Clouds of Edgefield
County.......
There were Phillips and Olivers in Decatur, which leads to believe they all
moved together.......Zilpha Cloud married Moses Oliver in 1831......
A friend of mine and I are planning to go to Edgefield this summer to
research for a few days.......

I am descended from Melissa Cloud's sister, Mary Ann Cloud. She married John
Dickerson March 13, 1845 in Ouachita Parish. I am looking for any details on
their indian heritage. I know that the grandfather of Melissa and Mary Ann
was John Cloud, who married Betsy Lacey, a Cherokee. Was Rebecca Roe, the
mother of Melissa and Mary Ann, also indian? I am also looking for details on
the parents of John Dickerson- they were Robert Dickerson and Elizabeth
Cloud. Was there any connection between the two Cloud women?
Thanks.
