My gggrandmother was Comfort Jane Cloud, b. 23 Mar 1833, d. 17 July 1907 in Polk Co., MO. Her father, as I have been able so far to determine is Burrell Cloud, son of Joseph Cloud and Jane Carpenter (?). Her mother is (maybe) Pollie (Mary?) McCollough. They were in Hancock Co., TN when it was formed from Claiborne Co. Her brother, William Cloud, died in Hancock Co. in 1923, I think that is the year. Is there anyone out there who can help me in any way?
Comfort Jane was married twice. Her first husband was James Matthew Mills that she married in Tennessee. Where? Her second husband was James Davidson Holstein/Holston; it is shown both ways on his records. He is my gggrandfather. They were married in Polk Co., MO 7 Feb 1869.
I also know that she is related to the Clouds that were in Stone Co. MO. They are uncles and aunts and cousins. I will gladly help anyone that I can with what I have on these familys.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

There are 4 references to Rider CLOUD in Emmet Starr's "History of the
Cherokee Indians." One is a military reference that he served in the Civil
War under Stand Watie's command in the First Cherokee Mounted Volunteers.
Rider CLOUD was a private under the immediate command of Captain Roswell W.
Lee.
The other references are in Starr's "Old Families" genealogy charts
where Rider is listed as the second husband of Elizabeth Beck. Her charts
are available in Starr. And he is listed as being married to Margaret
Walkingwolf. Her charts are also available. Sorry, no dates on the
marriages.

Folk Lore (1923) Oklahoma Yesterday Publications 8745 E. 9th St. Tulsa, OK
74112-4815, 1993. phone (918) 835-4118.
In addition, a Nancy CLOUD is listed on the 1851 Siler Roll of
Eastern Cherokee entitled to a per capita payment pursuant to an act of
Congress in 1850.
"Cloud" in Cherokee is "ulagili" in the 1973 tribal dictionary
published by the Western Cherokee Nation. In the older records it has been
spelled may different ways such as "OoLawGihLi", "ChooLaGil", and others.
Hope that helps.

I have a reference to an Elizabeth CLOUD who married Richard BONDURANT
about 1789. This couple probably married in Virginia, but both died in
Hamilton County IN. The Bondurant family can be traced back into 16th
century France, but I have nothing on a CLOUD line. Can anyone help
connect Elizabeth to any known Cloud family?

I would be interested in hearing about your Cherokee Clouds. Who and
where they were.
Thanks.

I'll be in NM until Monday week (6-28) .... should something happen
to the list, give Carol Carwile Head <cch(a)netdoor.com> a shout.
Normally, there's very little that happens in a week's time,
.... but, just thought I'd let everyone know.
.... also, I've been working on an upgraded web site, since
much has been added and/or modified since I put up this one ....
... well, last night, I accidentally copied some of the new stuff
to the site -- and it wasn't ready. I also over-wrote my files
on my hard drive, so I had not backup ! ... I think I've
repaired any damage (??) but, should anyone find a problem,
please drop me a line. BTW, I have completed an upgrade of the
photo album page -- all files are JPEG now and therefore smaller.
Ellen, I've worked on the two photos of yours that are there to
make them easier to download and to see.

There is a death index for bradley Co. TN at the address below. There
are several CLOUD's listed. None are mine but maybe someone else can
find their missing relative.

Howdy, Cloud friends. I've posted here before, without success, seeking
information on my grx4grandmother, Nancy Cloud. Thanks to the LDS church
website, I now have more information than I could have imagined possible,
although some of it is clearly not correct.
1. Rider Ncu Tu CLOUD, b.abt 1722 Cherokee Nation GA, m. Arion Ly UI Si Nia
abt 1740, d.abt 1761. (My grx6grandfather & mother)
2. Chi Ter CLOUD, b.abt 1750 Cherokee Nation GA, m.Robin (Ker Ni Hi Ky)
1762, Cherokee Nation GA, d.1824, Cherokee Nation GA. [According to this, Chi
Ter Cloud married at age 12!]
3. Nancy (Ner Chu) CLOUD, b.1769 Cherokee Nation GA, m. "Sealy,"
1763 Cherokee Nation GA, d.1790. [So, according to the LDS church records,
Nancy married before she was born. Also, I think her name was probably Nun
Chu rather than Ner Chu.]
4. Alcy (Alsi Ki Cum Muh) CLOUD, b.1789 Chetowgota, Cherokee
Nation GA, m.James Couchrum 1805, Cherokee Nation GA, d.1841 Honey Creek,
Cherokee Nation OK.
5. Judith COUCHRUM CHU TAH KI CUM MAH, b.August 2, 1818,
m. Ambrose McGHEE abt 1835 Ft. Gibson IT, d.June 13, 1863 Southwest City,
McDonald Co., MO. [Since it has been widely believed in my family and
spottily reported that Judith and Ambrose came on the Trail of Tears together
(1838-1839), it seems improbable they were married at Ft. Gibson in 1835. On
the other hand, Alcy CLOUD is reported to have been an Old Settler, one who
left earlier than 1838, so it is not impossible. Except that Ambrose was the
first postmaster of Cross Plains GA (now Dalton) in 1837. Oh well.]
I believe Chi Ter CLOUD must be the Jeter CLOUD I have seen reference to on
one of the lists to which I subscribe, hope it was this one. Does anyone have
ANY IDEA who might be Rider CLOUD'S father? His mother? Does anyone have
additional information on Chi Ter or Jeter CLOUD?
Thanking you in advance.

Laura,
I am looking for Elizabeth Cloud who was born about 1878. I suspect
that she may have been the sister of your Noah Cloud who was born 1789. Are
you aware of any Elizabeth in his family. She married Robert Dickerson in
Amite Co., Miss. in 1810.

Laura-
Looks like you are still subscribed! Maybe you can help me with a Cloud I
have been looking for:
Robert Dickerson, b. abt 1781; d. 1841 in Ouachita Parish LA, married
Elizabeth Cloud b. abt 1787, the marriage in Amite County MS on May 16, 1810.
We think they came from SC. Have you come across any such animal in your
decades of searching? I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Jean
