Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I forgot to add this in my last message. I show that Mary Elizabeth Morgan
was born in 1740 and this seems improbable. It would have made her 55 when
George Washington Cloud was born. Does any one know when and where she was
born.

I was catching up on my email, when I read this email, I realized how close
this could be to my Cloud family I am searching for. My gggrand mother was
Priscilla Cloud born in about 1822. She married a Joseph R. Hunter In
Franklin Tennessee in 1842. She is my deadend. I have no idea who her
parents were or where she came from. I have wondered if she is connected to
Jeremiah since they appear to be in the same area in the same time period.
Does anyone have any information on her in their records.
Because I also find it interesting that her son James Kent Hunter ended up
coming to Atlanta, Ga to settle down after the war, as did other Cloud
members. (She settled in Memphis)
Thanks.

I'm extremely busy -- and fixing to dismantle my computer (again) to
build up machines for other people .... so, may be off-line for a few
days (hope not) ...
... but, WRT your question re death of Wm. J., I went to the Sandy
Creek Cemetery in Milano and took notes _MYSELF_ .... now, I could
have made a mistrake ;-) ..... it's only about an hour's drive,
so maybe I'll go take some PICTURES !!! 8^)
Gravestone reads: "William J. Cloud, died 9-9-1868, aged 45 yr 2 mo 7 days"
mebbe I made a mistrake ??
Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>
I really believe you may have something with this son/grandson thing
so I am going back and looking at the original of the probate. Ellen
had sent be photocopies. On page 69, the probate appears to give
equal status to William J. Cloud and J. C. Cloud. In this particular
area. May have just been worded wrong. These particular minutes
refer to the 2 Nov 1969 minutes. So, I looked back at them.
In the 2 Nov 1969 minutes, they do not list J. C. Cloud's children.
But they do list the children of William Cloud as William Cloud,
Thomas Cloud and two other residents of Alabama. At this point (2
Nov 1969), we apparently believe that William J. Cloud was still
living (which is why his children would not be listed). In my
database, I have listed as the death date of William J. Cloud as 9
Sep 1871.
Here is where I am having a problem...under the amendent (page 69),
it shows Filed 8th Jul 1871 and recorded Oct 3, 1872. Not possible,
right?? Can't file it before it is recorded?
TOM, TOM, TOM.....
William J. could not have died in Sep of 1868. I have a census
record, dated 23 Aug 1870 in Milam County. It shows the following:
Cloud, Wm J age 46, born AL
Elizabeth, 36, AL
William, 17, AL
Margaret, 14, TX
Thomas, 11, TX
Dowen, 9, TX
Mary, 7, TX
James, 5, TX
Robert, 1, TX
This would strongly indicate that as of Sep 1868, William J. was
still alive. You must have made a typo in your last email listing
all your facts as to the children of Jeremiah; and meant to put
9-9-1871 vice 9-9-1868.
Now, back to my thoughts. As of Oct 1872, William J. would have been
deceased and they would need to list his children. Maybe they did
not mean, when writing the minutes, to imply that JC and William J.
were the sons of Jeremiah. But it says.....and petitioner further
says that the following named persons are the children of William J.
Cloud, dec'd, a son of SAID intestate to wit: and they list William
J.'s children. (and the intestate they appear to be referring to is
Jeremiah. But they may have left out the right words and meant to
indiacte that William Sr also died without a will??) Now, it
further says...and petitioner prays for a citation to all of the
above named parties to appear and answer at the Jul Term AD 1870 (in
looking at the actual document, the zero could actually be a thick 1)
of said district......
Probate records are confusing......was it recorded February 10th
1870 or Oct 3, 1872? If it was filed 8th July 1871, it would appear
the February date would be the correct one? I'm confused!!! Okay, I
think I've figured it out......Filed is the date it was taken, and
recorded is the date it was officially logged in the records. So,
this meeting was on 8 Jul 1871 and they were petitioned to appear in
the Jul 1871 Term (vice 1870). The July 1871 Term was held on 13 Jul
1871. Now here is another confusing part.......If William J. did not
die until 9 Sep 1871, why is he listed as DECEASED in the 8 Jul 1871,
13 July 1871, and 4 Aug 1871 minutes???? All prior to 9-9-1871.
So, when did William J. actually die?? Tom (think it was your
words) was trying to determine if it was feasible for William J to be
the son of WIlliam who probably was the son of Jeremiah. We have
not been able to pinpoint the actual marriage date of Jeremiah and
Elizabeth. Some speculate that it could have been as early as 1801.
I was unable to pin down Elizabeth's age thru the census. It was all
over the place from being 66 in 1850, 72 in 1860 and 80 in 1870.
In 1830, she was shown between 30 - 39. So, if they could have been
married by 1801, William SR could have been born as early as 1802.
Plenty of time for William J to have been born. Plus any of them
could have gotten married by 16. Some talk concerning popping
babies out left and right. So, if William SR was born about 1802,
why such a span between he and Mary? Some explanations could include
miscarriages....children who died in child birth....children who died
of one of the many epidemics.
Where am I going with this? Heck I don't know....but the one thing I
have figured out.....WHEN DID WILLIAM J. DIE???

Lura,
Thanks for responding. I think you are right about everyone in the 1930
household except for William and Francis.
I think William Sr. was much older, maybe the oldest of the nine. I
found him in the 1940 Pike Co. Ala. Census as Btwn 30 and 40. That would
put his birthdate from 1802-10, considering Jeremiah and Eliz were
married about 1802. I figure Frances was born in 1829 so that would make
him the baby.
Also in this census were one male under 5 (Thomas?), one male 10-15
(Wm. J. Jr?), one female 1-5 (Elizabeth?), One female 10-15 Elcena?),and
one female 20-30 (Margaret).
Note the Wm Jr age is consistant with his birthdate.
I would guess in the 1930 census E L would be he younger and Eliz the
older considering their marriage dates, E L 1847 and Eliz 1840.
In regards to the reference to Mary in the probate I would say you are
right. These papers were written up from minutes and are probably just
as someone rattled them off.
Good to hear from you, Gary
I have found the following information on the subject families.
Joseph Cloud married Chartity Talley May 9 1760 in New Castle New Jersey
(they 2 children)
Margarartte Cloud Married Thomas Talley
April 1 1758 in Willmington DE. (they had 9 children)
The article had more information on the Talley family but no more on the
Cloud's.
Ralph Corbett
Margaret FRIZZLE who married a William CLOUD .... can anyone tell
me who these people are and how they fit into the CLOUD puzzle ?
I have a Delilah FRIZZLE (b. 1788) who married John McDADE (1786 GA-
ca 1825 AL) in 1805. John was a son of James McDADE and Elizabeth
WILKINS/WILKES.

Stef, Thank you. By the way, my Clouds ended up in Dearborn County,IN, by
way of DE, PA, VA, KY. I believe the Parents of my 2G grandmother, Margaret
A. (Peggy), b. 1806, Boone County, KY, are William Cloud (whose parents I'm
not sure of. ..possibly Capt. Wm. Cloud and Adeline Martin), and Hannah
Cloud, whose parents are Wm. Cloud and Leah Jane Jones. Hannah and her
husband Wm. are 2nd cousins. I have not been able to document this
information, though. Any bells? thanks, Susan mcatee1(a)prodigy.net

I was just reading your first email and wondering, "what site????". I
can appreciate your problem with "forgetting" things. It seems to get
worse every year! My kids tease me about it too so I can relate.
Thank you for the new site to explore. I will enjoy doing just that.
