Hi, Can anyone tell me if Daniel Cloud of Orange Co., NC with wife Ann had a
daughter Mary Ann that married Elihu Pearson in Orange Co., IN 1822. She
could have been from Lawrence Co., IN. Thank you very much.
Bev Jamison
Susan,
While I couldn't find a definite answer, I did come across some good
clues.
William Cloud, b. 1745 near Front Royal, Warren co., VA, m. ca 1767 to
(Leah) Jane JONES (d/o James Jones and Frances Mason); he d. ca 1795,
per court papers in Boone Co., KY, in Burlington, which state "he died
about 1795 intestate and names the widow Jane."
Their children were:
1) James, b. 1767 near Front Royal at Willow Glen Estate, Warren Co.,
KY, d. 1848, Dearborn Co., IN, m. 2) Sarah Ramey, 10 Feb 1792,
Shenandoah Co., VA. This is probably the James in the 1830 census,
Dearborn Co. IN). Their children were: William B. (1830 census) who
was b. Apr 1795 Boone Co., d. 7 Jan 1880 m. Lucy Cornelius; John W.
(1830, 1850 census), b. 1798 KY, m. Mary, in IN?; Ramey Scandler, b.
c1800, d. bef 1848, m. Hannah ?; James T., b. ca 1811 IN, m. Susannah
Snider, 23 Jan 1830, Boone Co., KY; Thomas H. (1850 census), b. c1812,
d. bef Nov 1868, m. Mary Bates, 28 Feb 1831, Dearborn Co., IN;
Catharine, m. ? Hardin; Abigail, m. Asa Bledsoe; Melinda, d. bef 1848,
m. Nicholas Johnson; and Jane, d. bef 1848, m. James T. Cornelius, s/o
John and Eleanor Cornelius, had at least one dau, Sarah A. Cornelius, b.
18 Apr 1816, Dearborn Co., IN, d. Mar 1858, Mahomet, IL, m. 29 Dec 1831
Richard Abbott, s/o Samuel & Blanche Jewell Abbott, who had 12 children.
2) Keziah Cloud, b. 1772, m. Balis Ashby/Ashley (he d. 1801, Dearborn
Co., IN; they were m. Shenandoah Co., VA.
3) Hannah Cloud, b. 24 Dec 1774, Culpepper Co., VA, d. 26 Mar 1870,
Dearborn Co., IN, m. first William Cloud (2nd cousin), second Mr. Combs.
This is apparently the info you had already received, plus her children.
I wonder which Capt. William Cloud was her father-in-law.
4) Leah Cloud, b. 10 Jan 1776, m. William Webb, 17 Dec 1800, Boone Co.,
KY.
5) Baylis Cloud (1830, 1850 census), b. Jan 1777, m. Elizabeth Ann
"Betsy" Tebbs.
6) Daniel Cloud (1850 census?), b. 5 Jun 1780, d. 25 Jan 1818, m. Nancy
Owen. (No places indicated by my source.)
7) Margaret Ann "Peggy" Cloud, m. James Dicken, Mar 1808, Boone Co.,
KY.
8) Sarah/Sally Cloud, m. Joel Dicken, Boone Co., KY.
The above info was received from Doris Smith quite some time back. The
reported parents of this William Cloud were Henry Cloud and Eleanor
Williams, Henry s/o William Cloud and Elizabeth Hayes, William s/o
Jeremiah Cloud and Elizabeth Bailey, Jeremiah s/o William Cloud and
Susan James.
Any corrections or additions, anybody?
Linda
Per my info, taken for the most part from "Chadwell Pioneers and
Patriots", I show Abner, s/o Samuel & (?), Samuel being s/o Joseph Cloud
and Mary Earl Underwood, Joseph s/o Mordecai Cloud and Abigail Johnson,
Mordecai s/o Jeremiah Cloud and Elizabeth Bailey, Jeremiah s/o William
Cloud and Susan James.
On Abner, my info showed him marrying Polly Davis ca 1827, she b. 1804
Claiborne Co., TN. Do you have a marriage record for him and Mary
Capps? Maybe she was married before?
For Abner and Polly's children, I have, all b. Claiborne Co., TN:
E. D. Cloud, b. 1826, m. 1) ca 1847, (?) who di. ca 1858/60, m. 2) ca
1860 Elizabeth. He d. between 1870-1880, ARK

Hi
I remember an article in the CFA Journal some years back about Jenny
Cloud and Peter Wimmer stopping over in Greene County, Mo. on their
way to California, but I seemed to have lost that article.
What do have on Jenny Cloud as to her parents, and when did she marry
Peter Wimmer?
Thanks

Hi Nell,
I descend from John Fuller Lane, too.
Please tell me more about Mary Parker of Charleston S.C. .... I have never
shown a spouse for Isaac.
Here are the children of John Fuller Lane and Elizabeth Cloud:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
FIRST GENERATION
1. Isaac CLOUD died about 1771 in Halifax County, Virginia. He was born
in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Isaac Cloud was one of a number of Clouds
and other friends who migrated to south central Virginia about 1738. He
first settled on the Bannister River in what is now Halifax County. He had
no sons, and his only known daughter was Elizabeth.
Isaac CLOUD had the following children:
+2 i. Elizabeth CLOUD.
SECOND GENERATION
2. Elizabeth CLOUD1 was born about 1730 in Chester County,
Pennsylvania.2,3,4 She died after 1787 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.5,6
At a court held in 1770 for Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Richard
Thrasher, being sworn, proved that Elizabeth Lane, wife of John Fuller
Lane, was the eldest daughter of Isaac Cloud; that the Clouds were from the
Province of Pennsylvania in the County of Chester. It further states that
the Clouds of Pennsylvania were from Calne in Wiltshire, England.
She was married to John Fuller LANE (son of Richard LANE and Sarah FULLER)
about 1746 in Virginia.7,8 Marriage not found in these Virginia Counties:
Pittsylvania, Lunenburg, Halifax, Charlotte, Bedford. John Fuller LANE9,10
was born in 1727 in Baltimore County, Maryland.11,12,13 He died before 26
Feb 1786 in Washington County, Tennessee.14,15,16 He was christened in St.
Paul's Parish, Baltimore County, Maryland. John Fuller Lane served in the
Continnental Army. He was a patriot and signed the oath of allegience,
(National Number 422327).
He arrived in the Springdale area in 1784 after receiving a land grant as a
Patriot during the Revolutionary War. He received a Grant of land in
Washington County, North Carolina, (which later became Tennessee), on
November 10, 1784. He probably moved to the Watauga settlement where many
of his relatives had made their home. Elizabeth CLOUD and John Fuller LANE
had the following children:
+3 i. John Dutton LANE.
+4 ii. Dorcas LANE.
+5 iii. Sarah (Sally) LANE.
+6 iv. Captain Isaac LANE.
+7 v. Tidence LANE.
+8 vi. Rhoda LANE.
+9 vii. Jemima LANE.

Hi Nell,
Joseph wasn't born in Chester County, Pennsylvania. His mother and father
were married in 1676 in England. Joseph was born in England in 1677. On
December 7, 1680 his grandfather attended a meeting at Marlboro, England.
While still in England, September 9, 1681 his grandfather received (bought)
a grant of 500 acres of land from William Penn. His father and grandfather
(William Cloude, Sr and William Cloude, Jr) came over from England,
arriving in Pennsylvania in 1682.
William Cloude, Jr dropped the E from CLOUDE to become CLOUD after they
came to America, (William Cloude, Sr remained a CLOUDE).
Please tell me what you know about Mary Parker. (I have never shown a wife
for Isaac).
Thanks,
Logan

We don't seem to have any solid information about William Cloud [b. 1734]
married to Morgan, Martin and ? [I forget]. My thoughts are that he is the
son of William Cloud and Nancy Hardin for probably much the same reason
other researchers stick him with Joseph and others. Has anyone got any
leads to confirm our deny our conjectures? Seems a lot of us Clouds are
seemingly stuck with this William. I vote William and Alice! Prove me wrong!
Is anyone out there descend from the John Fuller Lane that married
Elizabeth Cloud family. I am trying to fine the children of Isaac Cloud.
I know that Elizabeth is his daughter, but I am interested in finding the
other children.
Also can anyone tell me the lineage of Isaac Cloud, and who his wife
is? I have him married to Mary Parker of Charleston S.C.? I know that
Isaac Cloud in 1744 ask for land at Buffalo Lick.
I have been told several different Fathers. I would appreciate if
someone can clear up this matter.
I know that Isaac Cloud died 12 May 1752, in Halifax Co., Virginia.
Any help will be appreciated and will be glad to exchange info. Thanks
Nell.

Hi
Thanks for your response. I wish I had the article about Peter Wimmer
and Jennie. I did belong to the CFA.
According to what I have in my Cloud data base, Wm. Cloud and Mary
[Morgan] Cloud did not have a granddaughter named "Jenny".
What do you have on Jenny and Peter? Who are Jenny's parents.
Thanks

Apparently he may have made the connection that the William CLOUD, b.

son to Nathaniel CLOUD, b. Jan. 2, 1778, Bethel Township, Chester County,

Hey Tom,
I think you are right about these census's belonging to your Nancy
Rutherford, but.....either she didn't know her true age or we have
her birth year incorrect. Both census's are consistent, and would
indicate that she was born in 1854 vice 1851 if her birthday is
actually in January.

My great-grandmother ClOUD remains elusive -- though perhaps
not so as before.
Nancy Elizabeth RUTHERFORD (Releford ??) (1851-1934)
married William Lafayette "Bill" CLOUD in 1870 ??
Consider the following:
In the 1870, Milam county census, there is a Rutherford family listed:
James M. Rutherford, farmer 48, M-W, born SC, SanAndres community, house 1633
Nancy, 44, housekeeper, TENN
William, farm labor, 17, TENN
Nancy, 16, TENN
Mary, 14, TENN
David, 12, TENN
Margarett, 8, TENN
John, 6, TENN
In the 1880 census, we find:
William Cloud, 28, farmer, AL, dad AL, mom AL
Nancy E., 26, wife, keepinghouse, TN, TN, TN
William age 5, born: TX
Thomas M. age 3, born: TX
(This census was taken in June -- my grandfather, Jake Washington,
was born the next month, July 4th).
I'm thinking the Nancy on the 1870 census is my great-grandmother!
On the 1880 census, she gives her age as 26, lending credence to that
theory (16 plus 10 years = 26). Note that this implies a dob of 1853
or 1854 even though her tombstone says 1851. I'm also doubting the 1870
marriage date, opting for a date closer to the dob of their eldest --
ca 1873-1874.
The clues I now have are the family I think she belonged to:
James M. RUTHERFORD (ca 1822 SC -??)
Nancy RUTHERFORD (ca 1826 TN)
William RUTHERFORD (ca 1853 TN)
Nancy RUTHERFORD (ca 1854 TN)
Mary RUTHERFORD (ca 1856 TN)
David RUTHERFORD (ca 1858 TN)
Margarett RUTHERFORD (ca 1862 TN)
John RUTHERFORD (ca 1864 TN)
