Hello,
Can anyone provide anymore info. on the Joseph Cloud (b 1710) and
wife Nancy MOORE? Anyone know who Nancy MOORE was, or have names of
her parents and/or couple's children? Did they go to North Carolina?
There was a Joseph Cloud who bought or received land from a JOHN
MOORE in western NC about 1758, in the area that's now Gaston or
Lincoln Cos, NC. John MOORE was killed by Indians in 1760. He was
believed to have had a wife Mary, son John and brother MOSES. Was he
related somehow to the Joseph CLOUD to whom he sold land in 1758?
Were these CLOUDS and MOORES related to early Concord, Pa. Clouds and
MOORES? Any help appreciated.

THE CENSUS TAKER
It was the first day of census, and all through the land,
each pollster was ready....a black book in his hand.
He mounted his horse for a long dust ride,
his book and some quills were tucked close by his side.
A long winding ride down a road barely there,
toward the smell of fresh bread wafting up through the air.
The woman was tired, with lines on her face,
and wisps of brown hair she'd tucked back into place.
She gave him some water....as they sat at the table,
and she answered his questions....the best she was able.
He asked her of children, Yes, she had quite a few--
the oldest was twenty, the youngest not two.
She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red;
"His sister," she whispered, "is napping in bed."
She noted each person who lived there with pride,
and she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside.
He noted the sex, the color, the age...
the marks from the quill soon filled up the page.
At the number of children, she nodded her head,
and saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead.
The places of birth she "never forgot,"
was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon?.... or not?
They came from Scotland. Of that she was clear.
But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here.
They spoke of employment, of schooling and such.
They could read some, and write some....though really not much.
When the questions were answered, his job there was done,
so he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun.
We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear,
"May God bless you all for another ten years."
Now picture a time warp....it's now you and me,
as we search for the people on our family tree.
We squint at the census and scroll down so slow,
as we search for that entry from long, long ago.
Could they only imagine on that long ago day,
that the entries they made would affect us this way?
If they knew, they would wonder at the yearning we feel,
and the searching that makes them so increasingly real.
We can hear if we listen, the words they impart,
through their blood in our veins, and their voice in our heart.

My wife and i just returned from a trip to England and of course spent some
time [read pilgrimage] in Calne, Devizes and St James Church which were all
so pivotal to William and his family before their voyages to America in the
17th century. Being there prompted me to wonder if anyone has put the same
level of research into William's heritage as we have into building our
lineage links to this man? Is anyone in the States, England or elsewhere in
Europe doing any serious research into the origins of the name, sources,
etc.? I've read articles that the name is Scottish or French in origin...so
who are we Clouds, where do we come from, and who, possibly, are our
ancestoral roots beyond the Great Man himself?
If anyone has access to an index to the 1870 Federal Census, State of
Texas, I would appreciate having information on the following names:
John T. SINCLAIR (child of 11 at the time)
Daniel SINCLAIR (born 1810)
Nathan E. SINCLAIR
Sarah Jane SINCLAIR
Elizabeth SINCLAIR
The most important names are Daniel SINCLAIR and John T. SINCLAIR, of
Fayette County. I appreciate your help. I have ordered the Census Roll
for the pertinent county but cannot locate an index, even through the
LDS Family History Center here.
I am descended from the marriage of Viola Belle CLOUD and Thomas
Franklin SINCLAIR, son of John T. SINCLAIR.

I just came in on this discussion regarding Joseph CLOUD and a MOORE.
Can someone add some dates, places to this? I have looked into the
Moore-Cloud connections in early Quaker, Pa records (Concord mtg),
and I have found a John MOORE killed by Indians in NC in 1760, who
sold or gave a tract of land to a JOSEPH CLOUD just before his death.
I am wondering who these Moore/Clouds are in NC and if related to
Moore/Cloud from Pa. Can anyone fill in?

I was wondering if anyone has any info on John Edward Cloud. He is my great
grandfather.
I am just starting to research my family. I have checked out a few
websites, but none of them have my family on it.
I am John Earl Cloud, Jr, my grandfather was John Leroy Cloud. His father
was John Edward Cloud.
I believe that John Edward was born around 1903 and died around 1950. No
one has ever cared to keep records so mine are somewhat shallow. His grave
is in Indiana. Out side of Indianapolis.
I would appreciate any help that anyone could provide to get me started.
Thanks,
John E. Cloud, Jr.
John,
You might try Orange County or Washington counties in Indiana. I have an
Abigail Cloud who married my Caswell Maxwell in Washington County,
Indiana in 1829. I don't have any other information about the Cloud
family except her father's name may have been Joseph.

Bonnie, got your message, below is what I sent to you originally --
and then re-sent ..... you may have gotten it three times by now,
who knows?
.... if you want to join the Cloud Family Discussion Group, put the
word "subscribe" in both the subject and in the body of the message
(put it all by itself) and send it to
CLOUD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
there is normally very little "traffic", so you may not get anything
for several days and then there may be several postings on any one day.
When you post to the group, try to come up with a distinctive subject.
The subject is what will catch people's attention and it is what will
be used when one sorts or groups their e-mail to find something later.
So, a subject like "Cloud" would obviously get lost in the archives
of the Cloud discussion group.
==========================================
Bonnie, hope you can get this now .... below is what I replied to you
originally .... I also cc'd it to the Cloud Family discussion group
mail list .... some wrote back that you should check the Dawes Commission
records which are available from www.ancestry.com (they charge for
that but I could look it up for you since I pay for an annual membership)
and also from one of the government sites (can't remember which one)
and it's free -- though I have found that one site sometimes has
info that the other doesn't -- i.e. wrt the Dawes Rolls (for example,
there is a Dawes Rejected List that is not on one of them).

Hi
My 3gr-grandfather is a Captain William Cloud. He was married 3 times. I
am descended from his 2nd marriage to Mary Elizabeth Morgan and their son
William Morgan Cloud.
There is quite a lot controversy over who Capt. William Cloud's parents are.
According to Rachel Adams [Cloud] Pond], his parents are William Cloud and
Alice Hardin. Others say his parents are Joseph Cloud and a Moore.
Has anyone proved just who his parents really are?
Thanks
Aubrey G. Cloud
Aubrey,
Gayle and Gary Cloud attended the CFA Gathering in Raleigh last month. They
seemed pretty active.
I don't find a Wayne, a Bradley, or a W. B. Cloud in the latest CFA listing I
have ('97-98 listing); but, there are probably members not on the published
list. You could contact Linda Boose.
I've printed out the Wayne Cloud and W. Cloud telephone listings from a couple
of years ago below. There were no W. B. Cloud listings. Will send as separate
message to keep this one short.
I'll send this along to members of the Cloud List (including Gary and Gayle) to
see if they can help.
Maybe everyone else is familiar with your "Cloud book", but I am not. Tell me
more.

If my memory serves me----this person is from central Arkansas, as I am.
We have experienced quite a few thunderstorms lately with a great deal of
lightening. Perhaps a fried modem might be the answer. I went through this
once
even with protection, so I have been unplugging my computer and telephone line
when the sky starts lighting up and the "CLOUDS" roll.
