Bette, I do have a Mary Cloud in that time frame -- she would be my
"step" grand aunt though she was not a Cloud by birth, nor did she
marry a Farrar, so far as I know. She was dau of William Lafayette
Cloud and Margaret Skipper and was born about 1882 in I.T. She
married Calvin Hopgood and then George Raines and she died near Wasco,
CA.
There are other Mary Clouds (maiden names) in my database that could
be her -- but I have no evidence any of them ever went to OK (though
some of their kin did -- specifically John Marion Cloud/Black and
my great grandfather, William Lafayette Cloud).
- Mary (b. 1830 TX), dau of James M. Cloud & Jane Francis (no known
spouse)
- Mary Caroline (b. 1858 TX) dau of Chas A. Cloud and Jane Calvert;
(she m. G.W. McCann 1882)
- Mary Elizabeth (1810 GA) dau of Jeremiah & Elizabeth; m. Jos. Cobb 1825 GA
- Mary I.L. (1832 AL) m. Jos. Francis 1847 ... she's not connected to anyone
in my database
- Mary L. (1862 TX) dau of Wm J Cloud & Elizabeth Boyd m. Geo Pratt 1879
Frankly, it seems that none of "my" Marys are the one you're looking at.
Mary (the first above) and Mary I.L. are the only ones I would think a
possibility at all. The OK -- and esp the Ada -- location are where
my people lived .... Perhaps with some more information ???

Ok, now for my two cents....will start searching sources of who all sent me
the information, but here is what, I think it was a Swearingen researcher,
sent me.
Noah Cloud, born about 1752 in VA died Aug 15, 1838 married Eunola (Unity)
Carroll 1781. Three known children. Jeremiah, John B., and Mary. Mary
married a Swearingen and had at least one son named Henry Swearingen. John

Married Margaret Swearingen ca 1808. (She was from Edgefield Co, SC) There
second oldest son was named Jeremiah T. (my ancestor). Did you all have
this info?
The "Edgefield Advertiser" listed John's birth and death in an obit.

I was specifically interested in the "Jeremiah's" and the "Henry's",
and they were in the following counties (dates above)
Barbour
Jackson
Madison
Monroe
Montgomery
I've been told none of these are "my" Jeremiah (1782 GA - 1861 TX),
but he was on the 1830 Montgomery cty Alabama census and was in Texas
by 1837. We're fairly certain he was in AL sometime before 1830??
Also, his son, William J. Cloud, was born in Montgomery cty AL in 1825,
was married there in 1848 before coming to Texas himself.
So, why are none of these "my" Jeremiah? Why wouldn't any of these be
"my" Henry or William J. ? (Henry married in Montgomery cty in 1828.)
Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>
searching the BLM records at
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
and found the following. You can go to the above site and view the
actual documents -- I have already downloaded them. If you would like
me to send one to you, ask. I can convert to most graphics formats.
The fields are tab-delimited. To read them into a spread sheet, save
the mail as a file, edit off this top part, save it and open it in Excel
or some other spread sheet (or import it or however it works). Then tell
it that it's tab-delimited. Can do the same thing to convert it to a
table in Word.
I apologize if you get two of this post -- some of my "cousins" may
not be on the Cloud list and I wanted them to see this info. Any thoughts
whether any of these are "my/our" Jeremiah (Byron, Leonard, Lura, et al)???

Hi
One of Phillip and Rachel Schofield daughters marries a Cloud. I think
this is about the time of the Rev War and I believe it is Martin Cloud, but
I would have to check.
Phillip arrived about 1735. I am looking on more information. Part of
the family was Loyalist and part including Phillip were Whigs.
Looking for more information myself.
Gaila
I was on Jury Duty last week. When I got in this morning, any email
I might have received had been wiped out. Anything interesting get
passed last week? By the way, I now have marriage licenses for E.L.
and William Gates, Andrew Jackson Cloud and Nancy Wood, Jeremiah Jr
(HWG's son) and Irene Ewing, and John Clark and Mary Polly Griffin.

Whose to say what relative information encompasses? Perhaps someone's story
about their search to find information might inspire someone else to look
in the same way. Perhaps a story past down from one family might spark a
memory in another individual who then makes the connection and low and
behold you have a new cousin. Genealogy is a relative undertaking. We are
all connected in one way or another. I have followed the flame wars on
several lists lately and think a whole lot of people should relax and take
a deep breath. I get somewhere between 75 and 100 e-mails a day, and most
of the time they don't relate to me at all. Alas someday they just might.
When I come across a message that doesn't relate I either delete it or move
it to a folder incase tomorrow it does relate. I have found many many
cousins on these lists, some who were related and some who are not, Yet. I
agree personal tidbits like " I am going to the mall, do you need
anything?" isnt apprpriate here. But we all make mistakes. The listowners
work hard to keep the lists going lets let them do there job.
