-Hi , I am Laura (Cloud) Schmidt. I use to belong to the Cloud Family

rejoin, can't find the address needed to send dues. If memory serves me it
was a Gayle or somebody in Texas to send to. Can you send me the info

I guess I wasn't clear .... I wasn't talking about finding what
cities were in which zip code (though that is useful information
sometimes). I was talking about looking for a **TELEPHONE NUMBER** !
Now, normally, one looks for a phone number by the person's last name,
then his first name ... and he/she usually looks in the appropriate
city's directory. Ah, but what if you only know the general area in
which he lived -- and there are dozens of towns in that area. THINK
how great it would be if you could enter a zip code.
For example: where I work, the zip is 78758. Where I live, it's 78732.
The Austin, TX area is, generally, in zip 787xx and the surrounding
towns are in 78xxx. So, if I was looking for someone who had once lived
in Pflugerville and I could no longer find him, I could get a map of
the Austin/Pflugerville area and spend the better part of the day
finding all the towns in that area and then looking for him in each
of them -- ** OR ** ..... I could just enter his name and a zip
code -- or partial zip code (like "78") and search the entire area
at one time. This used to be possible a year or so ago -- as did
reverse searches -- but it disappeared (I did find reverse searches
but not zipcode search).

Tom,
How about the Post Office? http://www.usps.gov/cgi-bin/zip4/ctystzip
You type in all 5 digits, it gives you the city. In the SSDI of
Clouds in GA, the following zip codes were unidentified:
30903 Augusta, GA - last benefit for Velma Cloud (1891-1979)
31702 Albany, GA - "" "" for Stephen Cloud (1958-1978)
30264 Newnan, GA - "" "" for Arthur Cloud (1908-1984)
20840 is not valid. The typo was on the list from Ancestry.com.
Analyzing typical typos that could have this result:
30840 is not valid
(reversal of -08-- to -80--
28040 Ellensboro, NC possible residence for Edwin Cloud (1924-1969)
" " Dobbinsville, NC
" " Hopewell, NC
" " Hollis, NC (Ellensboro is where the office is)
Another possibility is:
(Typo caused by misreading 8 for a 6)
20640 Indian Head, MD as possible residence for Edwin Cloud
" " Pisgah, MD
30115 Canton, Cherokee, GA res for Clara Cloud (1901-1995)
30129 Coosa, GA [P.O. Box only] res for Jean Cloud (1931- 1996)
All other '?' on the list stand for 'No location given'
I got this particular site from the site mentioned in the above message.
My degree in systems/data comes in handy once in a while! However, it
was the tip that R-Brandt gave that made it possible. Salutations, R
Brandt!

I just checked it out and, unless I've missed something, it won't
allow you to enter a name and zipcode and then return a telephone number.
It does seem to do everything else, though. I've written them an
e-mail telling them how handy this would be to us (see below).

perhaps if enough of us pestered the various phone services, they would
offer this service (perhaps you haven't needed it -- or didn't think
you did ..... it can be very handy to be able to search a *region*
rather than just a town .... or towns ... or a whole danged state!)

Y-E-SSSSSSS ..... Sanford is the son of Sanford, the son of Alice,
the daughter of .......... etc, etc !!!!
He wasn't home .... talked to his wife .... but, this is really a
great breakthrough for me .... I've finally found the lost "tribe"
of my grandfather's 1/2 brother and sisters (or at least part of
them).
Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>
I used to be able to do searches for people by zip code -- a very
handy feature --- especially for people who live "near" a town. And
you can "expand" a zip code by giving fewer numbers. But I can no
longer find an internet service that offers such a service ... only
town, state ....
Anyone know of a service that still offers that feature?
Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>
I think I've found two of my grandfather Jake CLOUD's 1/2 siblings and
I'm hoping someone out there in internet-land can help me further my
search.
great grandpa Bill had two wives
William Lafayette CLOUD (1851 AL - 1917 OK)
m1 Nancy Elizabeth RUTHERFORD (
..... my grandfather Jake Washington CLOUD (1879 TX - 1968 CA)
was born of this union)
m2 Margaret SKIPPER (or GREENBACK) (1866 - 1918) in ~ 1880
..... his 1/2 siblings were:
Mary CLOUD (abt 1882 - ????)
m. George RAINES in ????
m. C.C. HOPGOOD (b. abt 1886) on 7-25-1904
children:
Calvin HOPGOOD
Dick HOPGOOD (b. abt 1902) (married Ruby unknown)
(This family moved to Wasco, CA)
John M. CLOUD (b. bet 1882-1885 OK)
Alice CLOUD ( b. bet 1883-1887 OK)
m. Bill SPAULDING
children:
Ruby Jewel SPAULDING
Sanford SPAULDING
"Sis" SPAULDING
here are the clues I've found (off the SSDI)
A John CLOUD (3-22-1885 to 11-1978) died in Fresno, CA, SSN 567-50-3771
(not sure this is my grand-uncle).
Alice SPAULDING (2-22-1887 to 5-1973) died in Wasco, Kern, CA SSN 557-80-4584
(this looks pretty good as my grand-aunt).
I found a Sanford SPAULDING in Bakersfield, CA and I'll be trying to call
him later today (no address was given).
I'm told that Mary (CLOUD) HOPGOOD and her family also moved to Wasco, CA
but I can't find them in the SSDI or in a phone search for HOPGOODs.
I'm not sure what direction to take now. I've been hunting for these
people for over two years -- they seem to have vanished. Just before
Christmas I found another group of my kinfolks that had similarly vanished.
I'm hoping I can get a breakthrough on these people as well. Sanford
Spaulding's phone number seems to be my best lead at the moment -- unless
some of you have a better idea.

CLOUD Cousins,
We have a new listowner!! Tom Cloud <cloud(a)peaches.ph.utexas.edu>, a CLOUD
cousin whom you already know, has agreed to become the new listowner for the
CLOUD list! This is going to be wonderful for all of us - I do, of course,
plan to remain a member of the list, finding more information about my CLOUD
ancestors and cousins.
Carol
This week their free database is obituaries 1990-97 from 85 newspapers.
Found something like 1360+ Cloud hits.

Thanks for the response, Jan ... I'm cc'ing to the Cloud
list as I don't recognize anyone whose in my tree.

Hi, Everyone, Tired and Weary!
I decided to check out the Ancestry.com database, and discovered that
they have the SS Death Benefits database ONLINE. So o o o, wondered how
many CLOUDS still live in GA. I love the format. It is in spreadsheet
format, so it shouldn't be too difficult to scan them into the computer
and into MS Excell.
I turned up 186 pople who had had Social Security and had died who
had received their SS # in GA, regardless of where they died. Many of
them were born before the turn of the century. My challenge is this.
How about, after I've gotten them onto the computer [Ancestry lists them
10 at a time], divide up those whose birthday fell before 1900 and see
what we can learn. Any volunteers to take up the challenge? I could
coordinate the assignments so there isn't any dyplication of effort.
I will, of course, send the entire file to whomever wishes a copy.
If you do not have Excell, tell me, and I can send a text copy.
It occurred to me that starting from a new approach may be more
beneficial than covering old ground. Furthermore, there should be
plenty of information to verify/correct current info on our databases.
Do I hear any suckers - oops! - I mean volunteers? You do have to be
a sucker for punishment in this biz! Just think, we may actually fill
in some gaps and learn if our Jeremiah Cloud was really 'Jeremiah' or
even if he was a CLOUD! Shame on me! We might find Jeremiah!
Here's to the Hunt for Jeremiah!
