I thought this might be of general interest. It is a deed from Milam
Co. TX. In reading through the deeds I came to the conclusion that
eveyone (at least in Milam Co TX) who owned land that the RR built upon
signed one of these deeds.
As you read it you realize how powerful the railroads were at that
time. They not only gave up a stretch of their land for the railroad to
come across but also signed that the RR could have the same strip of
land across any land they now or in the future owned in the State of
TX. Whew!
MARY CLOUD DEED TO RR

The State of Texas
Know all men by these presents. That for and in consideration of the
enhanced value to be given and is contemplated to arise to my lands and

paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, I, Mary Cloud, the
County of Milam and State of Texas, have granted, bargained, sold and
released and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and release to
the International Railroad Company, a strip of land (200) two hundred
feet in width over the tracts of land particularly described as follows,
viz: a tract in Milam County known as my homestead upon which I now

built or may hereafter build its railroad; and also the right to have
the same strip of land in width over and upon any other lands now owned
or which may be hereafter owned by me in this state, through which said
railroad has been or may be hereafter built, together with all and

same belonging or in anywise incident or appertaining. To have and to
hold all and singular the said premises unto said International Railroad

Redneck Family Tree
Many many years ago when I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter
Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.
This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother,
For she was my father's wife.
To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy,
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle,
Though it made me very sad.
For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.
Father's wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter's son.
My wife is now my mother's mother
And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She's my grandma too.
If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.
For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother,
I am my own grandpa.

I am working on the Martin Cloud family line of Edgefield Co. S.
Carolina. B abt 1750 d. Jan 1806. Married Edith Vann Dau of Edward Vann

As a descendent of Jeremiah CLOUD, born GA 1782 and died TX 1861, I am
one of a good sized group wishing we could establish firm connections to
the generation you are researching. We likewise feel that our
connections run GA-SC-NC-VA-PA-DE-GB, but there are a lot of missing
records.
Trust you know about the larger group interested in various branches of
the CLOUD tree, including Edgefield County, as summarized at:

My records (secondary research only) show the following:
James Franklin CLOUD (son of Samuel CLOUD & Eliza Ann CASE)
b. 1850 (Johnson Co., Iowa)
d. 1921 (Grant City, MO)
married Rosa B. RANKIN in March 1872
b. 1856 (Harrison Co., MO)
d. May 1878
They had the following children:
George S. CLOUD, b. 9 Jul 1873
Ethel E. CLOUD, b. abt 1874
Charles Henry CLOUD, b. 4 Mar 1876 (my ancestor)
After Rosa's death, James married Ella Harroun in 1880.
QUESTIONS:
1. Does anyone know anything about Rosa B. RANKIN (parents, siblings, cause
of death, etc.?)
2. Does anyone have any details (e.g. occupation, military service, etc.)
about James Franklin or Rosa?
I'd like to swap info with other James Franklin Cloud "cousins".

Cousins,
61 CLOUD cousins are on this list. If we post our lines and our queries,
I'll bet some of us could connect, and increase our chances of finding our
ancestors. Within the last two weeks, four descendants of an ancestor of
another surname - about whom I have been posting for over a year (with NO
success) - have connected!!
PLEASE post your "most wanted" CLOUD ancestors to the list within the next
week!! Please remember to include the location and dates for these
ancestors, if known.
Carol
Cousins,
Hope all of you are having a successful search!! As always, if you get
multiple copies of this post, that means you are on more than one of the
lists I manage - the posts are identical, so delete all but this one.
PLEASE READ this one!!
If you have genealogy/local history books you no longer need and would like
to sell, if you are a part of a local historical society that has materials
for sale, or if you are looking for some new materials, you might enjoy one
of the Gen-Mat lists at this server. To join, send SUBSCRIBE in the message
part of a post to GEN-MAT-L-request(a)rootsweb.com or to
GEN-MAT-15-L-request(a)rootsweb.com (the list for materials/services priced
$15 or under).
If, while you are researching your ancestors, you encounter plantation
information - slave data - in wills, deeds, or other documents, please send
it to SLAVEINFO-L(a)rootsweb.com so that African-American cousins who are
seeking their ancestors might have a better chance of success. If you have
a copyrighted book with such info and are willing to do lookups, please post
that fact to the list, also. Some of you sent data a few months ago when I
was planning to have a website for that purpose, but this will be even
better, I think, since the archives of that list can be accessed by those
who want the information. Any of you who might also want to join that
list can do so by sending SUBSCRIBE in the message part of a post to
SLAVEINFO-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
The genealogy lists are only going to work for us if we POST, POST,
POST...........
Send ALL the information you know about the ancestor you are trying to find
when you post a query. Use a very clear subject line so that a cousin will
not delete your post without reading it because she thinks it does not
relate to her.
If you find data that you think others on the list might want to see, post
it - maybe someone will do the same for you about your ancestor!
If you have a resource and are willing to do lookups for the cousins on your
list, post that fact to the list. Maybe a cousin on the list will do
lookups in a book that mentions your ancestor.
If you think of a good way for those of us on a list to work together on a
project, suggest it to the list, volunteer to help with it - if we all use
our talents and our effort to work together, we will find more ancestors. I
see this happening on a couple of small lists and on one large list, and
much progress is being made on all three! These are OUR lists for finding
OUR ancestors, and they will only be as productive as we make them.
REMINDER - If you have not sent your snailmail address to me (privately, of
course), please do so in case you go offline and a cousin wants to contact
you about your ancestor. Use the subject line SNAILMAIL.
Also - if you need to contact me about anything having to do with the list
you are on, please use my name - CAROL - as the subject line, so that I will
read it as soon as I download it. Be sure to mention the name of the list
you are on in your post. If I do not respond within 24 hours, resend it,
because that would mean it was lost in cyberspace, my reply to it was lost
in cyberspace, or some such.
Let's find some ancestors!!
Carol

I have a business card with an oval photograph glued to the reverse
side for John CLOUD, son of William Lafayette CLOUD.
He was a school teacher and a politician, at one time being the county
clerk and also the county treasurer of Seminole County, OK or I.T.
All I can make out on the card is:
=======================================
JOHN M. CLOUD
------DATE-????
COUNTY CLERK
SEMINOL- ??????
Subject to the action of the De...........ary..n August.
=======================================
**(the "--" mean I've guessed the actual no. of characters missing,
whereas the "...??" means I haven't a clue, hence the "??" ;-)
Can someone search the old records for any records of John's
service to Seminole Cty? His birthdate is estimated to be around
1881, so he probably served in these positions from 1905 (or maybe
starting with statehood) until 1915 or so ????
He lived in Sasakwa and in Konowa, OK. We know that he taught school
in Konowa and perhaps in Sasakwa.
This is John CLOUD's line (he's at "**" below)
=======================================
Jeremiah CLOUD (1782 - 1861) m. Elizabeth (??) (~1790 - 1895)

I don't know whether he had any children, when John died or where he is buried.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm reposting this because I did not get much info from the initial post.
Hope there's a Cloud researcher out there [Hi, Harley!] who can give me some
information on this prolific Cloud who, by the number of his children, HAS
to be in a lot of people's line.
Thanks

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you !!
Hi Rebecca,
Saw your message relative to Sarah Cloud Rose. I believe her mother
Judith b.ca1789/80 was the daughter of Mordecai Cloud of PA>VA and Judith?
No one seems to have a handle on Judith's maiden name.
Judith, Sarah's mother, was born after the death of her father
Mordecai and named after her mother as in Mordecai's will she is listed as
"little one and that unborn". The one thing that does not track is where
Sarah was born as you think it was in NC or VA. Unless they moved back,
she should have been born in KY. Most of this family went to KY from VA.
The rest of the data seems to match.
The information I have pulled together has Judith moving from VA to KY
with her mother and then marrying LeRoy Owens Rose on 7/1806 in Jessamine
Co.,KY. I have never picked up any data on Judith's family and your
message was the first I have heard about her children. Thank you.
I am from this same family as Judith's brother Noah is my gg grandfather.
I would be interested in sharing data you have on this family.
Regards

Just returned from Belton, TX, Bell Cty courthouse (9-11-97)
Wish I'd gotten the name of the lovely lady that helped me ...
she was most helpful. It seems Milam and Bell County (and more ??)
were in the Nashville or Robertson Colony -- land granted by
Mexico to Impresario Robertson. She said that there's a set
of volumes by Malcolm McClain that list the early settlers of
Texas. Anyone heard of it?
She also told me there's a book put out by the Mormons called the
"Handy Book for Genealogists" that list counties and county seats
(and she probably told me more about it, but I didn't get it).
She let me look at a two-volume set she had that's also in the
public libraries called "Story of Bell County" published by the
Bell County Historical Commission (c) 1988.
DANG !! there's her name on the page from Bell County ....
she's the county clerk -- Vada Sutton. Very helpful and nice
lady!!

Many of you have asked about accessing the archived (old) posts. I will go
through the steps of how to do this, using the Bozeman list as an example -
you would substitute the name of the list you are wanting archived posts
from. Realize that some lists, such as the ones I manage, are set so that
only listmembers can retrieve archives for that list.
1) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request(a)rootsweb.com with archive in the
subject line and LS volume97 as the message.
2) you will get back a list that has several columns of numbers like this:
-rw-rw---- 1 slist slist 10968 Jun 14 13:50 11
The only ones you need are the date - Jun 14 - and the last number, which in
this case is 11. That means that the archive for June 14 for the Bozeman
list is #11.
3) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request(a)rootsweb.com with archive in the
subject line and get volume97/11 as the message.

Those of you on Larry Stephens' regional lists at indiana.edu (our former
list home with Maiser) will recognize the rest of this post - I have his
permission to use it.
GOOD SUBJECT LINES really help - those who read a lot of mail as well as you
(because more people will read your mail). If you're responding to a message
and the subject has changed, then change it on the message.
==================
IF YOU NEED HELP AND I DON'T ANSWER, I - 1) didn't get the message; 2)
answered and you didn't get the message; 3) haven't read it yet; 4) did
something really stupid and accidentally deleted it. Please be patient and
try again after 24 hours.

To anyone that can use the information:
I just returned from the library where I reviewed the 1880 Soundex film
from AR. I found some names that are not directly identified with my
wife's side of the CLOUD name but perhaps someone out there can utilize
the names I noted.
CLOUD:
1. Nancy, age 33, living in Benton Co, Osage, she listed three children,
Jacob, 8, Abner, 7, and John, 4. All the boys were listed as living with
their grandmpther, Elisa Bullard. It is in Vol. 4, ED 15, Sht. 44, Ln.
23.
2. Owens L. age 1, living with grandfather, John L. Bell in Clark Co.
Antoine. Vol. 2, ED 35, Sht. 31, Ln. 1.
I mention these because they are not living with their natural parents
and they could become lost from the Clouds due to that reason.
I also copied the following names from the head of household and also
listed in my records the family information. If they spark anyones
interest let me know and I will send what details I have, they are
listed as first name of head of household, age, place of residence at
time of census (County and city or township if shown), and place of
birth.
Benjamin, age 21, Saline Co. Traskwood, pob: AR; David M. age 31,
Franklin, Co., pob: AR;
George A., age47, Pope Co., Marten Twp., pob: E. TN; James, age 25,
Franklin, Co., pob: GA;
Jasen R., age 40, Hot Spring Co., pob: TN; John B., age43, Clark Co.,
pob: KY; John J., age 45,
Grant Co., pob: TN; Robert A., age 24, Clark Co., South fork, pob: AR;
S. N., age 49, Columbia Co., pob: TN;
T. H., age 53, Hot Spring Co., Magnet Cove, pob: TN; Tillford, age 22,
Jackson Co., Village, pob: AR;
W. W., age 27, (can't read Co.), Spring Hill Twp, pob: GA; William T.,
age 38, Pike Co., Wolf Creek,
pob: KY.
Hope this is all useful information for some of you.
Joe
Looking for the names and spouses of the 15 children of William [b. 1750 in
Rowan County NC] and Elizabeth Morgan/Nancy Vaughn/Adeline Martin. I have
information that one of his sons Benjamin Franklin married Mary Chadwell
Middleton widow of Walter Middleton. I have conflicting information that he
married Susan Bon Durant. Which is correct? If it is the former, I have some
real confusing kinships to straighyen out! Also, if anyone has information
on William's son Greenberry married to Barthena Cox and their children, I
would love to here from them.
Also there is a book on the Chadwells written by Sharon Chadwell Phillips
which has a good bit about the Clouds in it. Is anyone familiar with it?
There is also apparently a journal of William Cloud discussing his exploits
in the revolutionary War. Is anyone familiar with this book as well?
Best regards and thanks,
Gene Cloud
