Cousins,
About the time that we lost Maiser, I had the opportunity to visit with Mrs.
Owings, with whom some of you have corresponded, and whom some of you have
met at the Cloud gatherings. She is a lovely lady, and welcomed me into her
home - we spent some time discussing our Cloud ancestors, and she permitted
me to copy information from her book, in which she detailed the results of
her Cloud research.
Since that time, I have had little opportunity to do much with it - the down
time of the lists (trying to keep us from losing ground), and the move, have
occupied what available time I had for genealogy(needless to say, my own
genealogy has been neglected entirely and the new information and ancestors
who have been found during this period have yet to be added into my
database). As soon as the list projects are all updated (like the one sent
to the CIoud list yeaterday), I will begin looking at the queries which have
been posted to the list to see if any connections can be made with the
people referenced in Mrs. Owings' book.
That said, Sandy, if you will send me what you have on your Benjamin
Franklin Cloud, I will see if he is either of the two mentioned in Mrs.
Owings' book........ (it is GOOD to be able to enjoy this hobby!!!!)
Also, I am still looking for information on Rev. War Joseph Cloud, whose
brother Martin was also Rev. (they fought under General Sumter, with a
Lieut. Adair, according to the BELL book by Dixon) - Joseph's daughter
married Vincent Bell, whose mother was Clare Cloud, daughter of William and
Alice Hardin Cloud.

If your e-address is missing from the list below, please send a post to me
privately <cch(a)netdoor.com> with the subject line CLOUD and the
state/province/country(s) in which your ancestors lived.
If you see that other cousins are researching in the same area you are, post
to them - they may be kinfolk, or they may have info on your ancestors, or
both -
I will continue to add listmembers' submissions, and will resend this
periodically.

Sorry, Sandy, but those names are not of our line, which runs somewhat as
follows:
William Cloud (1), b. 1621, Wiltshire, England; m. Susan James 1647; d.
Chester Co, PA. He came to the present StWilliam ate of Pennsylvania in
1682. Five sons, William , Joseph (2), Jeremiah, John and Robert also
migrated about the same time.
Joseph (2), b. ca 1651, Calne, England; m. Mary Green Moore, widow of
Richard Moore, 1698; d. 1739 in Concord Township, VA. They had at least
four children: Isaac (3), Joseph (3), Ann and Mary.
Isaac (3), b. ca 1695; d. 1752. He had no sons, but had a daughter,
Elizabeth, b. 1730, who married John Fuller Lane in 1746. This is the line
of Carol Williams Ledford, Rt. 1, Box 16, Leicester, NC, 28748.
Joseph (3), b. ??, d. 1770, m. (1) Elizabeth Osborn ca 1722, and (2) Hannah
Baldwin ca 1732. Joseph (3) had at least four sons:
William (4) - this is the line of Rosalie Hogg, a professional
genealogist, living at 10 Pelham Green West,
Waynesboro, VA, 22980
Joseph (4) - this is the line of Harley Cloud, 7805 Birnam Wood
Drive, McLean, VA 22102
Jason (4) - this is the line of Thomas Hamm, P. O. Box 154,
Spiceland, IN 47385
Isaac (4) - this is my line and that of Raymond Hunt, 1400 Westway,
McAllen, TX 78501
A James Cloud and a Jeremiah Cloud also may have been brothers of
the four listed above.
The four references described above have done considerable research on
these lines and are in general agreement as to the line of descent from
William (1). Their conclusions are based on many factors, including wills,
locations, and land records.
Isaac (4) [b. before 1755; d. between 1820 and 1830) was counted in
Spartanburg, SC, in the 1790 census; however, he was probably near and may
have been in NC, for he was counted in Rutherford Co, NC in 1800, 1810 and
1820. He had, Ray Hunt believes, four or five sons: Isaac Jr. (5), Jesse,
John, Jeremiah and, probably, Joel (the 1820 census had Isaac Jr [5], Jesse
and Joel all listed at the same address).
Isaac (5), b ca 1787, m. (1) ??, (2) Joanna ??, had sons George, James
Madison (6), Benjamin, and perhaps Francis Marion. George, b. 1810, m.
Dorinda Archer in 1851, and settled along the Occee River in Polk Co, TN.
Benjamin, b. 1828 from wife (2) Joanna, was several years younger than
George and James Madison. Benjamin m. Eliza Jane Pearce in 1856 and d.
1895. They had ten children, and sometime between 1860 and 1880 moved from
Polk Co, TN to Henderson Co, IL. Family rumor also has a Francis Marion
Cloud as a son of Isaac who may have gone to Texas after the Civil War; if
so, he probably was an older son of Isaac's (5) first wife. A recent issue
of the Cloud Family Journal disclosed a Francis Marion Cloud, aged 20, who
joined the Confederate Army in Texas and died a few months later in New
Mexico - this may have been our Francis Marion Cloud.
James Madison (6) is my gggrandfather, and I have a volume of detail about
his descendants. His son, Seaborn (Sebourne, Sebren, Samuel ???) Jefferson
(7), his son James Bradley (8), his son Albert Hadden (9), myself (10), my
three children (11), and my grandchildren (12), complete the succession.
Good luck, Al Cloud.

NEW Rootsweb Mail List!!!!
RIGGS-L Mail list for discussion and research on the
surname of RIGGS and related families.
This is a "brand-spanking-new" List....If you have a RIGGS
family in your lineage...we need your help to make this list
a success... Subscribe NOW!
Send a message to: RIGGS-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
one simple word: subscribe
Help get this one going!!!!!
Well, cousins, our list is now at rootsweb! You do NOT need to resubscribe
- if you get this, you are already on the list. I am sending you a copy of
the "generic" welcome message that has posting and unsub instructions, etc.
- please print it out (if possible) and SAVE IT for future reference.
Now, let's get back to looking for ancestors!!
Carol <cch(a)netdoor.com>
Welcome to the CLOUD mailing list! You are currently subscribed in
"mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made
to CLOUD as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to
digest mode are given below.
1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to
CLOUD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd
not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance,
if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you
want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to
CLOUD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com.
3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and
sent to you together as a single large message). There are two
steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to
CLOUD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second,
send the command "subscribe" to CLOUD-D-request(a)rootsweb.com
to start receiving digests.
4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode.
All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe
when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them
to start again, simply subscribe again.
5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing
list receives it, just send it to CLOUD-L(a)rootsweb.com. It
will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode.
You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
