You said John Clothier died in the 1840s well I have a copy of the 1841 census which has him still alive in Shepton Mallet so I wonder if they are not the same John Clothier.
I have found with research one can get onto another line, which is very frustrating.Love to receive your ged com.Have lots of photos of the Clothier families in NZ.
regards
Pam

hi pam
i would be very pleased to show you the tree - the problem is that i am new to this "community" feature on ancestry and i do not know how to share with people who are not in the tree (now if it was genes reunited, it would be simple)
i could send you a gedcom if you will give me your e mail address or do you have any suggestions?
I knew about Gus who died in the first world war - he spent some time convalescing in the east end with siblings of my granddad, Charles - we have a letter from the NZ family to my great aunt Alice.
The original John was one of 6 children born to his Dad Charles, but i can find no mention (yet) of his mother. Like all his sons (bar Edwin) he came to london after his wife(henrietta nee Budgett)died. The poor man died of Cholera in the 1840,s - i have the certificate - Henry, his son was present at the death.
I could go on all day!! but must dash now to the shops
john

hello sylvia - hope you are still researching given that this thread is a couple of years old. I am the G G G grandson of John Clothier born 1771 in Stratton on the Fosse. Thomas joseph was his son and Thomas John his grandson - this is my line. I know quite a lot about the NZ connection through the help of Sandra Matcham - all down to the 2 brothers of Thomas John who emigrated - the 2 sisters did not fair so well.
could we have a look at each others trees perhaps?
John Clothier
