Hi Karen, When I did the Sellers family which came out of the Shenandoah
valley, prior to state hood Ohio was known as New Penna. Perhaps the fact
that John's children born in Va., PA. and Ohio, could place them in Ohio
earlier than thought. I will have to look Joshia Mattew Closson's bio. My
Mother always said Clossons were Penn. Dutch. She also thought her mothers
side (McFadden) were Irish, turns out they were Scotch. Always must be
careful.
Thanks, Don
Hi Don - Nice to hear from you. I've always wondered
if those Closson VA references could be to the Ohio territory before it
became a state in 1803 or to WV because it was then VA.

Hi Kathy, we are still looking for the father of John Clawson (Closson) born
in PA in 1783 and married Jane Adams. They moved to VA and back to PA and
were in Jefferson Co., Ohio by 1810. John died in Jefferson Co., Ohio in
about 1821. Jane and her eight children moved to the Ashland area. Thanks,
Don
Last email sent before I was ready! Here is the rest:
Jurien, Brant, Josiah, William, Richard,
Anne, Mary, William, John, Elizabeth, Hannah and Sarah. Josiah's birth
is listed approximately 1734, which would put him in place to be the
same Josiah of Perry County. Considering that I have found no other
records to put him elsewhere strengthens this case. Richard is listed
as being born about 1740.
If anyone is interested in what further research I can dig up concerning Clawsons (especially those from northern Westmoreland and southern Indiana Counties). Please let me know. Likewise, I would be interested to hear from you.
Kathy
