Hi Marlene, Sherry & pmcleod0(a)aim.com,
I received this message directly from pmcleodo(a)aim.com
"I tie into this line thru John Closson and Amy Emma Lee. It appears he was married several times. His first wife was Jane who is my ancestor. Does anyone has dates? I'm trying to piece together whether there was more than one wife or whether she is one woman using different names. I don't show John Closson as being a Junior. I show his father's name was Wilber Closson and Elizabeth Daley. Ann, do you have any birth records?"
Hi pmcleod0(a)aim.com,
The John Closson b. about 1760 that married Amy Lee b. about 1793 were married about 1812 in Ontario Canada. My source is Carol Munns & the LDS FamilySearch. This info is not sourced. As far as John Closson being a Junior I think that this was tacked on to avoid confusion between John that m. Amy and his father John that married Lydia. More than likely they were not called Sr. & Jr.
I do have a Wilbur Closson b. 1754 that m. Elizabeth Dailey. Source DAR Patriot Index 1966 issue. Wilbur is 2nd cousin twice removed to John Closson who m. Amy.
What is your source for John's first marriage to Jane and that Wilbur & Elizabeth were his parents??
I was told that John's wife's name was Amy "Emma" Lee. What is your source for Amy Emma Lee??? The way you have the Emma seems more likely.
Hi Marlene,
I am very sorry to say I do not have much for Ezra Bates Hewitt. Just the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census all in Chickasaw, Dayton Twp., Iowa. This has his parents both born New York, he is born about 1812 Canada West. I have 4 children for Ezra & Mary Ann - William, Anna, Lovina & Ezra. I have considerable for Mary Ann, also have the book "The Josiah Closson of New England". I will share all info that I have. Thank you for posting how you connect to the Closson's.
The grandson of the author of this book asked me to piece together what I learn about the descendants of Josiah Closson.
Hi Sherry,
You wrote you do not have these Mary & Ezra in your family tree. Does any of the above fit?? I would be very interested in your connection to the Closson's. Perhaps you connect to Josiah Closson or the New Jersey Closson's. I also have the book about the New Jersey Closson's and would be glad to do look ups.
This is so exciting, thanks to all of you for posting. Hope to hear from you.
Ann Parsons

Hello Sherry,
Thanks for responding to my message. My husband's great gr-grandfather was Ezra Bates Hewitt. He was married to Mary Ann Closson. Their offspring were: Ezra James. John Henry, Laura Ann, Edward Clark, Jacob James, William Wallace ( my husband's great grandfather), Amy Rena, Alvina, Emma. From all the information I have recieved, it seems that the Hewitt family originally came from Canada but lived in Iowa...New Hampton. Some are buried there. My husband's grandmother was Ida Jane Hewitt and many of the census records only name William and Ida. There is no mention of a mother's name until later...I think that William might have married twice as later, a Margaret Donnelly appears. We don't know alot about the Hewitts or where in eastern Canada they came from. Also Ezra Bates Hewitt's father was John Closson Hewitt. His wife's name was Amy. I don't have a last name. Siblings of Ezra were: Amasa, Asa Lee, Lavinia, Jarutia, Lydia Cross, John Clark, Amos Page, Amy Pal!
mer, Edward Moss, John Gardner, Mondley Bushell, Asmeth, Caleb Thomas, Andrew Washington. Hope this helps. Maybe there is a connection. Marlene

Hi. Cindy,
I am researching my wife's Hays ancestors and saw your posts re: Clarence L. Closson. As you and others have pointed out, he was married to Jennie M. (Marie) Hays. I have info on her lineage because
she is a sister to my wife's ggrandfather, George Eaton Hays. I have tracked their parents from NY to Iowa to SD. Are you interested in the Hays line? If so, I would be willing to share info. By the way, the research I have done does not indicate that Jennie is a niece of Rutherford B. Hayes, but there is a possibility (oral history) that Jennie's mother, Mary Francis (Eaton) Hays, may be a Mayflower descendent. I am working on that but am have some difficulty confirming this oral history. I have a discrepancy on her parent's names between what is on her death certificate and what I have found in other sources. Have you connected with anyone who has info on her?
Jon
