Hi Margie,
Yes we corresponded in 2003 when you needed some help on research for your father, Loren William Closson. I was able to tell you that Loren was son of Ernest Charles Closson who was son of Jared Closson who was son of Caleb Closson. I offered to send you Caleb's ancestors when you were ready.
Thank you for looking for Edward A. Closson. Hopefully, someone will come forward with how he fits into the Closson's.
I saw your posting in reply to Scott Grundmeir that you thought I was a shirt tail cousin. I guess he asked you how I fit in. I am your 3rd cousin. I wrote Scott Dec 29, 2004 and he replied he would like to exchange information when he got back to his home computer.
You stated Jared's wife maiden name was Eliza Obrest, Scott feels her maiden name was Eliza Halley, that it is Eliza's mother whose last name was Obrist, note different spelling. I would like your thoughts on this. Your source was an ex-sister in law. Scott did not state his source.
Would you be so kind as to tell me your mother's maiden name? I cannot figure out from your letters if her middle name is Bell or if that is her maiden name.
You wrote your 5th cousin found your father in a census. Would you let me know what year and where.
You mentioned the name Gavin Peacock. I knew he was researching the Spencer name. Can you tell me how or why you believe he is reseaching the Closson name?
Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your mother. The loss of one's mother leaves such a hole in life.
Best regards,
Ann

Hi Ann,
We have talked before a long time ago. Since (Rena Bell Closson) Mom's death 8/2003 I have been getting involved in many things. I just started up on this again.
I search my data and do not find an Edward A. Closson. I have found that we belong to the Minnesota Closson's (I think) Caleb Closson was my gg grandfather. It all stopped around my father's time and I have been trying to gather it up for the generations after me.
Funny how when you become the "elder" that you try to get things in order... You may remember my dad's name as Loren "Happy" William Closson.
My 5th cousin on my mother's side found my dad in a census. We couldn't find him cause they had the spelling all wrong on the first names of him,his first wife and daughter. They had her as a son. Cause they assumed Billie Bea was a boy.
So I am still researching and I do believe there is a Gavin Peacock on here that could be a relative as well.
Hope I can help you in finding any of the Closson in the Pacific Northwest.

Will try once more. So far I have had little or no response, help or interest in any of my prior postings on other Closson names.
Have death certificate for Edward A. or E. A. Closson who died May 19, 1910 age in Albuquerque, Territory of New Mexico.
I would like to learn who his family was. The certifcate states he was about age 60 years, white, widower. Occupation, birthplace, how long resident in City of Albuquerque, father's name, mother's name are all marked don't know. Direct cause of death is No Doctor. He was buried May 31, 1910.
Considering nothing was known about him and the length of time from death to burial it appears he had no family that either knew where he was or cared about him.
Any information you can give to me about this Closson would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ann Parsons

Found this on the Oregon State Archives website:
Name: Closson, Pauline & Stone, Edward D.
Year: 12-31-1944
Record Type: Marriage

Hope this helps someone. If it does I would appreciate knowing how Pauline connects to the Closson family.
Ann

I believe I am from the Minnesota Closson's. My great grandfather appears to be Jarred or Jared Closson. We are from Washington state. Or as I have seen the Closson's in the West. Some in Montana, Oregon and Washington.
I show Jarred's wife Eliza's maiden name as Obrest and her mother's maiden name as Halley.
Obrest was her father's name and I show that both her parents were from Prussia. I don't have first names yet...but the way my puzzle is fitting together so quickly it won't be long.
Any correct information would be appreciated on this Closson family. I am learning so much to pass down to the grandchildren.
Appears the Closson group had TONS of children...I mean tons. My mother only had two girls. Making our immediate family small. Since my dad Loren (Happy) W. Closson was married three times, I also have two half brother. Our half sister by his first marriage was murder along with her husband in 1970 in Baker, Oregon, by two vagabond men. I have looked for newspaper articles on this subject and do not find it. I have the national magazines it came out in back in the day. If anyone knows how to find this informaiton it would be apprciated. I did join the historical newspaper site too. But find nothing there. The names were Billie Bea (Closson) Taylor and Robert Laverne Taylor. It happened outside of Baker, Oregon.
There is so much history today of the Closson's in the West. Would I do a web site to tell this? It's tragic information, but it is part of the history. I don't see a lot that people have stated about other members yet.

Ann,
Thanks much for your response. I would like to exchange information and I'll email you when I get back to the home computer.
As to Eliza...I have her maiden name as Halley with her mother's maiden name as Obrist. The spelling has been a challenge throughout my research...not just with Closson. Seems that (census takers in particular) there was much leeway given to the spelling of foreign sounding names. In the upper midwest most folks were of scandanavian heritage and I believe names like Closson took on the prevailing Norwegian, Danish, or Swedish spelling.
Alas...it makes the search more fun I suppose.
