I have LeAnna Shaffer, father Gideon Shaffer. I'm writing this in Vegas, so I don't have my notes with me, but will get back to you when I get home tomorrow. I'm searching/confirming Gideon's father a John Shaffer? Do you happen to have anything on Gideon? I'll check my notes to see if your Nancy may have been among his children.

Yes, this I think this is the same line. My Cook and Shaffer relatives that married into the Clauson line were from those counties. Amanda Clauson's mother, LeAnna Shaffer was from Somerset County. The Clausons, Cooks etal intermarried between the counties.
I suspect that Robert is of Josiah's line, but need a few names to tie into it.

Hi Paula!
Nope, none of the names you mention are in the ancestors I currently am exploring. My Clossons/Clossins/Clawsons are not Bedford Co., PA but Somerset, Cambria and Cumberland Co. PA folks. I have tried emailing Mr. James a few times, but he has not responded. Thanks for replying.

I too am a Closson descended from the Bedford, PA line of Clausons. Most most recent ancestor was Amanda Clauson, daughter of George and LeAnna Shaffer Clausen, born 6 Jun 1858. I believe George's father was Robert Clossen (Clauson) of Bedford, PA. I would like to know Robert Clossen's wife's full maiden name. My record stops there. Do you have anything on these Clossens of PA? Where they migrated from? Where the family emigrated from? Some say NJ, New England, Germany, Norway? Any clues? Thanks, Paula

Hello Bob,
Greetings from Alaska! I can trace my lineage, with name spelling changes to James Smith Clossin, born between 1782 and 1785 in Cumberland or Huntingdon Co., PA. There I have hit a brick wall. I would say that most Clossons, Clossins, Clawsons from the Somerset Co., PA area are trying to connect this line with the Clossons of New England. I remember vaguely reading something while examining some Closson info on an LDS film about one of Josiah's sons or grandsons "going west" and never being heard from again. Can you show any connection between the Clossons of New England and Pennsylvanians of the same name?
Robin
Hey! It's only 15 degrees below zero outside tonight. Pretty warm.
