Really, just a point of interest:
My great-great grandfather Lucilius CLOSSON was in the Illinois infantry during the Civil War. I've discovered a site that lists the men in his company, and found he is listed three separate times. One entry is for Lucillius CLOSSON, one is for Lucillius CLOUSEN, and the other is for Lucillus CLOSSIN. Each entry gives the other spellings in parentheses as alternate names, so clearly even the Army knew these three listings were the same person.
Hi Listers,
For those who use this book you may want to add this to page 149.
Children of Franklin and Harriet N. (Torrey) Closson.
Child listed as Payson Closson is Edward Payson Closson born 14 Oct 1838
Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA
Child listed as Eben is Eben Augustus Closson.
Franklin is: Franklin (5) John (4) Nathan (3) Nehemiah (2) Josiah (1)
Thanks to "Cindy" who sent this to me.

I've just encountered a list of my gg-grandparents' household from the 1880 census in Dixon, Lee County, Illinois. The head of household is given as L.E. Closson (my gg-grandfather), wife Cate Closson, their three children (Edson, Ethel, and Eugenie), and a name that's new to me: Wilhelm Weasel. His relation is given as "other," which I suppose could mean he was simply a boarder and no relation at all. Or could he be related to Cate (b. 1843)? I'm unsure of her maiden name. His birth year is given as 1813, and his parents were from Germany. I've been searching on variants of the name Weasel, but, nothing at all so far.
Anyone have any kind of Closson/Weasel connection?

The mystery of 27 years between births of children of George C. Closson, son of Deacon Nathan Closson, seems to be solved. For those using the book “The Josiah Closson Family of New England” this is on page 154.
Thanks to “Cindy” the following is, until we learn something new, the additions and corrections to page 154 and the families of George C. Closson.
George’s marriage to Sarah P. Howard has some conflicting data.
Page 154 has May 21, 1833 The listed source is Deer Isle Marriages.
The book “Vital Records of Deer Isle, Maine, Prior to 1867” (Marriages and Intentions) has:
page 156: 21 May ‘35 George C. Closson and Sarah P. Howard both of this town.
page 158: 10 Jan ’35 George C. Closson and Sarah P. Howard both of this town.
George and Sarah P. Howard’s children:
1. Sarah Jane Closson b. 4 Mar 1835
2. Harriett Closson b. 21 Mar 1837
3. Augustus Osborne Closson b. 1838
4. Henry Payson or Payton Closson b. Dec 1842
5. Caroline Closson b. 8 Feb 1843
Sarah P. (Howard) Closson died 29 May 1846
George then marries Sarah Elizabeth Gray and as with his first marriage there is some conflicting data.
Page 154 has 6 May 1847. The Vitals book has 21 Mar 1847.
George and Sarah E. Gray’s child.
1. (George’s 6th child) Antoinette D. Closson b. 24 May 1848 d. 6 Sept 1848.
If anyone has additions or corrections to this data I would appreciate them. Hope this helps someone. It looks like we have solved they 27 years between births mystery!
Ann

Hi Ann - Unfortunately, I do not have the Closson resource that you are looking for (Josiah Closson Book) - but I've been fortunate to get my hands on a family history that notes the information to follow. My interest is in Zeruah Chatto - my fourth great grandmother, who married James Edwin Fogg. They in turn had a daughter, Sarah S. Fogg - who married Perley Cane/Kane of Brooklin.
>From what I've been able to dig up (not being in Maine anymore is hard) Zerurah did have a son named George Closson - it is notated in the "Vital Records of Deer Isle, Maine Prior to 1867" - Transcribred by Benjamin Lake Noyes. Unfortunately, there is no other data, and I've no access to any hard data other than the family history I have. So, I've no idea who the father of this George Closson was.
My notes show notations from " Historical Sketches of Bluehill, Maine", by Candage, 1905. (Long Island Families.)
"Farther down the island shore lived three families by the name of Chatteau - Joshua, Charles and John who came there from Deer Isle. They were fishermen, boat builders and farmers. The record of the family of Joshua is not found on the town books.
Charles Chatteau, (afterwards changed to Chatto) married Martha Eaton, daughter of Jeremiah and Patty Eaton, of BlueHill Neck, 6 Jan. 1825 in Bluehill, Me.
Children
1. Louisa, born 3 Aug. 1825; married George Closson 29 Aug. 1840.
2. Almira Jane, born 21 Feb. 1828; died 25 Nov. 1829.
3. Abigail, born 6 May 1829.
They had 5 children by 1835."
Now, further, I show Charles Chatto - as the son of Charles Chatto and Mary/Polly Staples. This second Charles Chatto, and Zeruah were brother and sister. So, my question is - did their childen marry each other ? Charles' Louisa and Zeruahs' George?
I would love to have info. on the James T. Closson you mention - as we seem to have lines that connect. However, when I checked the message board, I was unable to pick up his message - or e-mail.
------
I'm also interested in Josiah Closson of Sedgwick, father of Polly Closson who married Joshua Staples. I believe this Joshua's wifes name was Tobin. Polly Closson, their daughter, was born 17 Sept. 1787. Would you happen to have anything on this branch? This Josiah Closson, I show as my 6th great grandfather.
Thank you for any consideration.
