“I am trying to find out more (especially the parents) about my Great Grandfather, George Washington Closson. I understand that there may be two George Washington Clossons, but my records show that this one was born January 27, 1823 in Blue Hill, Hancock County, Maine. He died December 11, 1878 on Long Island, Blue Hill.
He married Louisa Chatto (b. August 3, 1825, Blue Hill; d. 1892) on August 29, 1840). They had seven children, including my Grandfather, Franklin Eugene Closson.
I would like to know what any of you have about George Washington's parents. Thank you.”

I have been thinking about Jim’s posting. It appears that there are probably four George Washington Clossons.
It appears that the George Washington (G.W.) Closson listed on page 209 of the Josiah Closson book by William G. Closson as son of Isaac Closson is not the same G.W. that is listed on page 279 as son of Isaac.
I first noticed this as Isaac is said to have been born about 1818 on page 209. The G.W. on page 279 is listed as marrying on Jun 30, 1842. This would make Isaac age 24 at G.W. marriage. This does not seem to be likely. I think the G.W. on page 279 should not be listed as son of Isaac. The G.W. on page 279 is a different G.W and not son of Isaac.
It appears that the G. W. on page 279 is son of Joshia or Josiah S. Closson and Zeruah Chatto. The G. W. on page 279 matches the information Jim posted give or take 1 or 2 years and 1 child.
Now I have a question I am hoping someone will be kind enough to answer.
How does Joshia or Josiah S. Closson connect with the Josiah Closson family of the book by William G. Closson????? It would seem the Hancock County Maine Closson’s would somehow connect.
Hope to hear from someone regarding this interesting problem.

Looking for anything related to:
Lucilleus (sp?) Closson (from Illinois, buried in Penn Yan, NY) and Catherine Van Sickle Chappel. Her headstone, in Rock Stream, NY, has no dates on it!
Their children: Edson Closson, b. 1876 in Ill. and d. 1905, in Starkey, NY (buried in Rock Stream)
Ethel L Closson, born in Illinois in 1870, moved to Yates Cty, NY where she married Wm Huff in 1893, then to California, died in 1958.
Eugenia Closson, died in Penn Yan, NY (I have no more info on her than this).
Thanks.
If there's one thing I've learned from genealogy, it's that you should put your money into a detailed headstone. 100 years from now, that's all that will matter!

I would like to contact those researching Bezaleel (various spellings) Closson who lived in Ohio & Wisconsin. His parents may have been John Closson & Jane (mnu) or William Closson & Mary Hamilton. In particular I would like to contact Karen Kantzer Collins. I have information & documents to share.
Thanks,

Dear Mildred,
Mary "Polly" Staples, whose father was Joshua Staples was my g-g-grandmother. She married Charles Chatto, Jr. Her daughter Zeruah Chatto married George Washington Closson, my g-great grandfather. Zeruah and George were first cousins. They were all from the Blue Hill, Hancock County, Maine area too. Sorry but that is as close as I can get.

Researching how many wives John Clark Closson had.
The 1865 MN Rice Co. MN has J. C. Closson with wife E. (perhaps Isabella?) The Josiah Closson book by William G. Closson states John Clark married Isabella.
The 1880 MN Rice Co. MN has John Clark Closson with wife Caroline born about 1837 Ohio.
Of interest is his brother Amasa on the 1860 census had a wife Caroline born about 1837 Ohio.. (Amasa died 1864)
Perhaps John Clark married his brother's widow????
Appreciate any information you would care to share with me.
