I would very much like to see the information you have concerning the Pennsylvania Clossons. I would be happy to pass it on to those people I know that are tracing PA lines of this family. Thank you.

The string of this enquiry has got longer and to this point no connnection to England. I did trace my GGrandfathers birth in India back to his father who was born in Harwich England. He married a Mortleman, both families were very involved in sailing and shipping. The Clossons were sail makers and I did get a bit of information including a copy of a front page of an accounts recievable book from the 1800's for Closson Sailmakers. Active as far back, it has been suggested, as 1600's but I have been unable to confirm that. I have some interesting leads from their museum, and a bit of a time line of Clossons. I got a whole bunch of help from a very active Australian genealogist, Ann Chambers, who is a Mortleman. The remaining Harwich line, like mine, does not have the Closson surname in it anymore. The last male Closson in Canada would have been my great Uncle who died as a child (1910 +/-) in one of the flu epidemics. Have you found any English connections in your researc!
h? I have also heard of a Closson watch maker in London? There is a lady in Harwich who is a Closson I have correspnded with her and she did phone me but she is the daughter of an american serviceman (WWII) with a swedish history to her closson name.
Hope to hear from you if you have anything that connects.

Thank you writing back. I talked to my dad today he told me that Clarence was married to Jennie Hayes, their children were Harold, Earl and Julia, Harold was my grandfather he was married to Lily Giampapa. They had 4 children, Genevieve, Dorothy, Robert(my dad) and Sally. My dad said that his uncle Earl had One son that he remembers named John and thinks he still lives in the LA area. Julia had 2 daughters. I've found out also that Clarence had 2 sisters, Stella and Ester. Also Clarence parents were Elwin Closson and Emma Herron. What I'm curious about is my dad thinks that Jennie Marie Hayes (his grandmother) was the neice of Rutherford B. Hayes...our 19th president. Also I'm curious about Elwin Closson, I haven't found any info on him. thank you for your time. Cindy

Hi Peggy & Cindy,
I am attempting to build a database of the Closson names that I learn about. My mother was a Closson, hence my interest in the Closson name. Also, I like to help people.
I have a Clarence Lysander Closson b. Iowa d. 1951 in California in this database. Also, a Harold Closson b. 1904 South Dakota, d. 1968 in California. Harold's mother's maiden name is Hayes, the father's name is blank. There is a little more on these names if this interests you.
I do not have Julia or Earl that Peggy wrote about. In order to search for Cindy's names I would need more information for Robert, Harold and Robert L. If you would let me know dates or locations I will be glad to search further.
Any data you would care to share I will be glad to enter in the database or any other searches you might like.
Regards,
Ann in New Mexico

Peggy,
My name is Cindy Johnson Closson, my father is Robert Closson, his father was Harold Closson. I dad always said his great, great uncle was former pres. Rutherford B. Hayes. I grew up in Southern Ca. Harold Closson died when I was young, my parents now live in Montana. I live in Fresno, Ca. Sounds like there could be a connection. Do you have any information on Harold Closson? I do know my dad was the only son of his, my only brother is Robert L. Closson, his only son died at one year old. Any others in our family tree to carry on the name?
Thank you,
Cindy

Who are parents or siblings of Harold F. Closson? Harold lived in Northfield MN and Florida at least to 1997. I do not mean to pry, just want to connect him to proper parents in my Closson database.
Thank you,
Ann
