Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I hope this list is looking into variations of the spelling of Closson.
Here is where we believe our family starts. We are not sure if James is
the
father of my John Larimore Clawson, but he seems to fit.
It is just speculation at this point.

Geri,
Your best bet would be to find a naturalization record for the father.
There is a statewide soundex index to naturalization records for
Illinois (hopefully this would be the state where he was naturalized).
If you live in Illinois, you might find it at your local branch of the
National Archives. Otherwise, I'll bet the FHL has it and you can order
it through your local Family History Center. The records themselves (for
Peoria County) have not been filmed, but once you determine where your
ancestor was naturalized, you can contact the court of record and order a
copy. The naturalization record may tell you what port your ancestor
arrived at, as well as the date. Maybe you can find the ship that way.
The Bremen passenger lists do not survive. The Hamburg ones do and you
can order them throught the FHL. However, all my ancestors from Germany
(from Prussia and Hannover) came from Bremen because it was the closest
port to them. Through the use of naturalization records, I have found
all their ships (except for one guy who claims he arrived in New York in
1835) by looking for arrivals in the port and on the arrival date they
specify in the court record. Also, if Heine was alive in 1900, the
census record should tell the year he immigrated and whether he was a
naturalized citizen. (Illinois had a statewide census in 1865, so that
might also help determine whether your ancestor was in Illinois at that
time, as well.)
Good luck!!

The information that I have from The Josiah Closson Family by William
Gideon Closson (1952) is essentially the same. However there are some
differences. Hiram H. CLOSSON was Hiram Hendricks CLOSSON. I have his
birthdate as 26 Jul 1833 in Warkworth, Ontario, Canada. He was the third
of five children of Simon Stephens CLOSSON b. 2 Apr 1798 at Thetford, VT
(*Simon Stephens Closson Boble*) d. 25 Apr 1869 Warkworth, On, Canada m. 1
Feb 1825 at Colborne, On. Canada Lovica HENDRICKS. Simon was a farmer and
a carriage maker (This information is from Martha Lovica (Closson) Wiggins
- Hiram's sister.
Simon Stephens CLOSSON can be traced back to Josiah CLOSSON. His line is
Simon Stephens6, Simon5, John4, John3, Nehemiah2, Josiah1 and we can fill
in all the gaps and collateral families for you.
Now to Hiram:
He married 13 Oct 1860 Mary Catherine GOIN of Warkworth. Hiram Hendricks
was a lumber merchant and a Methodist. He moved to Las Vegas, NM, in
1881. He died 29 Nov 1915 at Easr las Vegas, New Mexico, age 83. Mary
Catherine (GOIN) CLOSSON died 17 May 1913 and is buried in Las Vegas, NM.
I have their children as Lovica, Henrietta (your Hattie?), Charles Clement,
Mary Catherine, Martha, George (died at 20 years of age).
This information comes from Martha (Closson) WIGGINS; John B. AYLESWORTH -
Rochester, NY, 1916(married Henrietta - Mary Catherine's sister); Mrs Mary
Catherine (Closson) Meyer, Santa Fe, NM, 1952 - this one is the daughter of
Charles Clement CLOSSON and Delia (FLYNN); Closson & Closson, Agent Buick
Automobile, Sante Fe, NM, 1952.

That probably gives you a little to digest. We can fill in the holes, but
our information stops with your ggrandmother. We are updating Closson
information for a possible new Josiah Closson book so if you could update,
that would help. Feel free to contact me directly.

Goodmorning to all.
I'm searching for the parents of John Francis Clauson the spelling is
different then what's on the list, but thought maybe some one else was also
researching for this Clauson spelling. John Francis Clauson was b. June 8,

Dear Diana LaCount,
My folks are all from Hancock, Blue Hill, Maine also. None of your names sounded
familiar, but I understand there are a number of Clossons in that territory. My
great uncle Capt. David Closson, was fairly well known in that area. He still
has a number of progeny that live there. My grandfather was Franklin Eugene
Closson who married Almeda Jane Bowden.
Please respond....

Hi Diana,

Hello!
I'm new to the Closson list. Thanks, Bob James, for the warm welcome. I
don't have a lot of Clossons, and not a lot of info on them, but here it is
briefly:
Hiram H. Closson, b. 11/29/1838, Hancock, Blue Hill, Maine
married Mary Catherine Goin b. Canada, had the following children:
Hattie, Mattie, Charles, Lavica, May and (my g grandmother) Mary
Catherine
Mary Catherine was born 4/12/1868 in Warkworth, Canada. She married George
Washington Green of NC and I believe they were in New Mexico when they
married. How or when this Closson family came down from Canada, I know not.
I have information about some of their children. Seeking any info about Mary
Catherine and her parents/sibs. Any connections out there? Thanks.
