NEWARK: A Celebration of Life Service for Vera Marie Close, age 92, of Newark, Ohio will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church.
Vera passed away Saturday. April 19, 2014 at Flint Ridge Nursing Care Center.
She was born July 16, 1921 in Newark, Ohio to the late Charles Miner and Bessie (Harris) Coventry and was raised by her mother and loving step-father, Clyde Coventry.
Vera graduated from Newark High School in 1939 and from the University of Cincinnati.
After teaching in Cincinnati, she enjoyed working over 25 years with the Licking County Genealogical Library.
She also worked on the first bookmobile in Newark.
Vera was dedicated to Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was a member of United Methodist Women.
She will be missed by many friends of the church for her cheerful personality and willingness to help others.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna Beth Sicilian and Amy Jo Crum; two grandchildren, Ian Crum and Rachel Carver; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Harold) Goodin and Betty (Dan) Ferrell; a brother, David (Dixie) Coventry; a sister-in-law, Irene Miner and step-brother, Bill Coventry and step-sister, Sara Coventry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Virgil D. Close whom she was married to for over 65 years and passed away April 12, 2013; a sister, Ruth Boyer and two brothers, Gerald Coventry and Carl Miner.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church, 12 Neal Avenue, Newark.
A family burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 24.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Oh 43058 or Neal Avenue United Methodist Church or Licking County Library system.
The family would like to thank The Chapel Grove Inn, Flint Ridge and Hospice of Central Ohio for the wonderful care they gave to Vera.
