It was great to hear from you. I don't know enough about Ireland geography to recognize the difference between Magheragall & Dromore. My mom's maiden name was Ferris. It was her grandfather James Ferris who married Isabella Close. My mom always talked about her dad's cousin living in the Guelph. I don't know why they didn't socialize through the years though. I'd like to talk more about the family. My email address is gasman(a)golden.net We can talk more through that address if you'd like. Pat Sutherland

Hello all. I have a small hobby of purchasing old photos/albums and trying to locate them back to their rightful families. I purchased, several years ago, a baby book of Marianne CLose who was born 2-3-1956 in Philadelphia PA. Inside this book are a good chunk of Marianne's baby photos plus her ORIGINAL birth certificate. The inside cover reads "Marianne Close 2-3-56" The b/c however spells her name as Mary Ann Close. She was born at Philadelphia College of Osteopathy North Center Hospital Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have info that she once lived at 7138 Vandike Street in Philadelphia. I would really like to get this book back to her family. If you have any info that might track her family, you can either give them MY info or contact me at: searchingphotos(a)yahoo.com. Thank you all so much!
Michele

Hi there.....
Your right about Jame Watson b. 2 Feb 1873 coming to Guelph with Maggie's help. James Watson was my Grt Grandfather. His father was also James Watson Close b 13Aug1845 in Magheragall, who married Susannah Hedley. (I know his birthdate from a birthday book that Maggie kept) This James Watson was the son of John Close born about 1808, he was married to Elizabeth Davis...I was fortunate enough to be able to find my grt Grt grandfather's Baptism in the Magheragall church records. Both John and Elizabeth as well as James Watson and Susannah, are buried in the Magheraga;; church yard. Would love to hear from you again, definitely interested!....there is probably a connection. I know there were other Close's who lived 1 Street over from my family in Guelph.

Hello Wendy. My great great great grandparents were John Close & Rebecca Mullen (their son John Close 1804-1895 married Isabella Black, then this couple's daughter Isabella Close 1843 - ? married James Ferris 1851-1899).). This last Isabella lose had a brother James b 1840 who I believe was the father of James Watson Close -- James Watson Close came to Canada (Guelph, Ontario) with his sister Maggie's help in 1923. My mother often talked of her cousins in Guelph. I'd love to talk more about a family connection if you are interested

Martin,
I am afraid I don't have a copy of the marriage certificate.
although the date I have is 27 Jun 1867 and the location Ballycarry Presbyterian Church. (Note that there are 2 Presbyterian Churches in Ballycarry, One being the Old Presbyterian Church)
I enclose a link to Ballycarry community Association where you may find Rev Dr John Nelson and David Hume Phd MBE of assistance in your quest.
regards
Tim

At the moment I am working on a tree for the Thomas Close who married Sarah Cameron to see what I can uncover. Will let you know if I manage to fit them into the wider tree.
Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate for Thomas and Margaret Jane? I would be interested to hear what occupation was given for his father John and what address was given? And who the witnesses were. It may help clarify where everyone fits in.
I have also recently taken a family finder test with FT DNA so if anyone you know connected to your Close family has taken one it may be interesting to see if we show up as matches for each other.
Martin

Hi Martin
You said
"Matilda must have been born before 1820?"
I agree.
You said
"its quite feasible that my John Close could have been her firstborn (about 1819/20), placing Matilda's birth about 1800."
I agree its possible but still think its quite unlikely.
You said
"I have seen a comment on a forum somewhere that poses that Thomas Close (who married Sarah) was a brother of the John Close who married Matilda. That cannot be possible as John and Matilda had their last child in 1841 and Thomas Close didn't marry Sarah until 1858 - there's too much of an age gap there."
I agree
Don't really know where to go from here to rationalise this.
regards
Tim

Hi Tim,
John and Matilda's first child Letitia was born in 1833 so Matilda must have been born before 1820? Her last child Thomas was born in 1841 and if she was about 40 then its quite feasible that my John Close could have been her firstborn (about 1819/20), placing Matilda's birth about 1800.
Both John Close & Eliza Cameron and Thomas Close & Sarah Cameron both had daughters called Letitia which again could be a clue to a family link.
I have seen a comment on a forum somewhere that poses that Thomas Close (who married Sarah) was a brother of the John Close who married Matilda. That cannot be possible as John and Matilda had their last child in 1841 and Thomas Close didn't marry Sarah until 1858 - there's too much of an age gap there.
By the way I have now discovered the wedding of Thomas to Margaret Jane McCormick in 1867 - on the internet he is incorect;y recorded as
