SEBRING - Janet Eileen Close, 79, formerly of Alliance, Ohio passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, OH.
Janet was born in North Jackson, Ohio on Sept. 21, 1933, the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Erma D. (Hacker) Schlabaugh.
She attended Jackson Milton Schools and was the "Mail Lady" for their family business, United Tool and Die.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed bowling, golfing and shopping for all sorts of things.
Survivors include her three sons, Dennis (Debbie) Close of Sebring, Gary (Colleen) Close of Salem, Ohio and Todd (Barb) Close of Sebring; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra S. (Pat) Keney of North Jackson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Close on July 14, 2001; a son, Richard J. Close; a great-grandson, Richard Michael; and a brother, Robert L. Schlabaugh.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard Mikes officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, the hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Janet's honor to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 or to the Cope Foundation, P.O. Box 1251, Melville, NY 11747.
Arrangements are by the Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home.

Rev. Virgil D. Close
NEWARK, OH: A Celebration of Life Service for Rev. Virgil D. Close, age 91, of Newark, Ohio will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, with Rev. Shawn Morris officiating.
Rev. Close passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at The Inn at Chapel Grove, Heath, Ohio.
He was born November 25, 1921 in Marion County, Ohio to the late Floyd D. and Ethel (De Lashmutt) Close.
Rev. Close was a graduate of Hilliard Senior High School, Hilliard, Ohio, The Ohio State University and Yale University School of Divinity with Honors.
He was a minister in the United Methodist Church for over 65 years, serving in ten churches throughout Ohio and retiring in 1985.
Virgil was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and a recipient of the Medal of Honor.
He was a genealogist of 40 years, publishing a family book as well as being an avid reader and collector of books.
He enjoyed his family and many friends.
He will be missed by many at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and for his wonderful personality and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vera, whom he married August 31, 1947; two daughters, Anna Beth Sicilian and Amy Jo Crum; two grandchildren, Ian Crum and Racheal Carver; seven great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law; Shirley (Harold) Goodin, Betty (Dan) Ferrell, David (Dixie) Coventry and Carl (Irene) Miner; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Close.
Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church, 12 Neal Avenue, Newark.
A family burial was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio on Tuesday, with the Licking County, Ohio Veterans Alliance providing military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio or Neal Avenue United Methodist Church or the Licking County Chapter of the Ohio genealogical Society.
The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Services, 59 N. Fifth St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
