Hi Margaret. Heather here (logged in on another acct). I've come across various Close's in County Down in trying to track down my family in the area. My Close's seem to have been centered across the other side of Strangford Lough, around Greyabbey/Fish Quarter and Newtownards. There is quite possibly some connection between the families. My oldest Close ancestor was Andrew, born 1804 in Newtownards, County Down. He was my g g g grandfather. (3rd great). His son was Andrew as well (b 1832). I believe he had siblings Robert, Jane, Elizabeth and Hugh. This Andrew married Catherine Matilda Bell. Their son (my great grandfather) was another Robert, born the Newtownards District as well, but Fishquarter specifically) in 1867. My grandfather was born in Scotland. I always heard that there were relatives that went to Canada, but I still haven't made any firm confirmations. Of my grandfather's siblings, three went to the US via New York and all ended up in New England (Massachusetts !
and Connecticut) One ended up in Australia, one died in WWI and one sister I'm not sure about, but I think she died in England. I feel I've seen your siblings pop up before, and it probably sticks in my mind due to the similar years in County Down and same names/naming patterns. I have been poking around at both sides of my family in County Down and County Antrim, so I will keep a sharp eye out, and let you know if I make any new discoveries. Chances are our families overlap in there somewhere! I also have a plan (nothing firm yet) to visit Northern Ireland in the next couple of years, so Keep in touch!
Heather

Hi Heather: My g g randfather Robert John Close, was born Aug. 1812, Dromore Parish, County Down. His parents were William and Sarah (Preston) Close. Robert may have had 5 brothers or cousins named Alexander, James, William, Hugh and John. Robert, Alexander and James ended up in Baltimore Maryland and had a Dry Goods business. The other 3 ended up in Canada. I cannot find anything before 1812 Robert. Have you ever seen these names in your research? Thanks Margaret

Hello: My g g grandfather Robert John Close was also from Ballymena and was Catholic. He was born Aug. 1812 and in the Dromore Parish. I believe his parents were William and Sarah (Preston) Close. He may have had 5 brothers (or cousins) named Alexander, James, William, Hugh and John. Does any of this info. sound familiar? Although Robert, Alexander and James Close lived in Baltimore Maryland and were in the Dry Goods business, I cannot find any other connection for them. I also cannot find any info. further back then the 1812 birth of Robert. Thanks Margaret
