This is a scan of a newspaper article (don't know date or name of newspaper):
Peter and Rebecca (McMurland) Close, whose marriage was solmnized in the state of Pennsylvania. Peter Close was born in Germany, in the year 1775, a son of John Close, and his wife was born in Ireland, in 1785, she having been a child when she was brought to Amercia and having been reared and educated in the State of Virginia. When Peter Close was a lad of ten years he came to America in company with neighbors who immigrated from Germany, and after landing in the port of New York city, he eventually made his way on foot to Virginia, in which state he remained until the time of his marriage, soon after which important event in his career he came with his wife to Ohio and became a pioneer of the Island Creek district in Jefferson County. There he remained intil April 9, 1820, when he came with his family to what is now Monroe Township, Caroll County, where he leased the partially improved farm owned by Dr. Samuel Black, one of the pioneer physicians
of this section of Ohio. On this farm he remained until 1828, when he obtained from the Government a tract of eighty acres in section 5, that township. He reclaimed this land from the forest, developed a productive farm and on the homestead he and his wife passed the remaineder of their lives, Mrs. Close having died in 1863 and his death having occurred in the follwing year. Peter Close served as a private in the War of 1812, and his political allegiance was given to the democratic party, both he and his wife having been earnest communicants of the Lutheran Church. They became the parents of nine childreh, all of whom are now deceased, namely: Sarah, John, Michael, William, Peter, Rebecca, Phobe (Mrs. Thorley), Jane (Mrs. Robbins), and Joseph.

Thank you for your kind offer of a copy of the PDF file, but I would rather work with raw data and come up with my own theories.
I too wonder about the Ohio connection and especially the repeat of the name Peter CLOSE in the two families.
I wonder if anyone has done a Y-DNA marker test of a direct male line descendant of Christian CLOSE to see what that descendant's DNA looks like.
Although our CLOSE DNA was an exact match to that of a descendant of Peter CLOSE and Jemima THORLEY, however my earliest known CLOSE ancestor was not a descendant of that Peter Close.
My earliest known CLOSE ancestor, Jacob CLOSE, was a married adult residing in Kentucky by 1784. [Remember that prior to 1784, the "Kentucky territory" was part of Virginia and the territory of Kentucky was not to become a "state" until 1792].
Jacob's wife was from Prince William County, Virginia. In the wedding record of Jacob's son, John, and in the baptismal records of some of John's children, it is noted that John's father, Jacob CLOSE, was from North Carolina.

Hi..my line is me, mom, Roscoe, Asa, David, Peter, Peter & John...I have done a tremendous amout of research on my line and like the others have hit the "brick wall" with John..I recently received a PDF from a findagrave member, who's Friend Don Close passed away and left him his research. But Don mistakenly had my Peter with a father named Henry(1760-1838) & grandfather named Christian(d-1794). So Im wondering now why Peter & Rebecca would moved to Ohio and in such close Proximity to Henry & Christain and be "mistaken" as family...Is Henry & Christain a cousin & Uncle perhaps or just a coincidence?..in the research of Peter, he has his decendents & spouse correct.clear down to David. I can email the PDF to you if you would like..I didnt have the 1810 census so thank-you..Traci

There is a John Close ( b. 1750) that many people have in their trees on Ancestry.com. Some have him coming from Germany and some from Ireland. According to those trees, this John Close died 17 Mar 1813 in Virginia. Not sure what documentation is available to substantiate this, however.
I looked up Close close in the early census records for Virginia (http://www.usgenweb-search.us/census/censusVA.html) and found a Peter Close in 1810 (but no John). Peter was living in Brooke County (West) Virginia and it looks like he had at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. In 1820, he's still in Brooke County, with no sons and 3 daughters, possibly by that time the sons have either died or moved out. At that time, I guess, what is now West Virginia was part of Virginia, and this particular part looks to be very close to Pennsylvania. I do not know if this is the right Peter Close, but he is the only one I found in the census.
On Ancestry.com, there is a Rebecca McMurland in someone's tree. She is shown as married to Peter Close in 1810 in Virgina. This tree has Peter's birthdate as 1775 in Germany and death in 1864 in Monroe, Caroll, Ohio. There is more info in Ancestry, including a short will and a bio of his son Joseph. According to the bio of Joseph, Peter (his father) was born in Germany (and was the son of John) and Rebecca (his mother) was born in Ireland. Peter immigrated in 1885, married Rebecca in Virginia, and then they moved to Ohio. They had 9 children. If you think this is your Peter, then I'll send those images to to you.
It seems that Peter may have had a brother, Joseph. I believe I am a direct descendent of Joseph, so I am also interested in more information about Peter and his parents.

It has not yet been proven that John CLOSE was from Germany.
The general consensus is that he was either from Germany or from Ireland. There are good arguments both ways.

The Close family members I am searching for is my gggrandmother Rosane
Trowe Scholz who is buried in the McCool Cemetery in McCool, Porter
County, Indiana. She came to the United States with other Trowe folks,
but cannot make a connection, as they were most likely married in Atla
Rode, German Empire in Lower Silesia before 1880. By this time her
husband, a Scholz was dead and most likely buried in Gurhwitz, German
Empire in Lower Silesia. She came to the States with two of her
grandchildren if my memory serves me correctly. McCool, and Liberty
Township, Porter County, Indiana and Chesterton, IN are connecting
points for my Trowe search

I think I posted something to you on another thread, but I am looking for more info on this CLOSE branch that moved from Northern Ireland to Scotland. I am not sure how/where this might fit, but maybe you can help, as my info on this side of the family is lacking: My relative, ANDREW CLOSE was born in Ireland in 1844, I belive County Down. He had a brother Robert and a sister Jane. He was married to Matilda Bell, and they had a son, ROBERT and a daughter JANE.
Robert Close
BORN: 7 May 1867
in Fishers Quarter, Greyabby, Newtonards (District), Down County, Northern Ireland
Death in 1949 in Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland
Robert and Jane must have emigrated to Scotland, as their children seem to have been born there. Some of the CLOSE siblings (the children of Robert Close and Jane Ann Robinson) ended up in the US, others are still in Scotland, some went to Australia.
Any thoughts??
