Perhaps the following will serve as a clue to help you find that answer. I hope so:
On June 2, 1787, in Nelson County, Kentucky, there was a marriage bond between Mary "Polly" MILLS and James HENDRIX. The surator was my 5th great grandfather Jacob CLOSE.
ALSO:
On June 2, 1787, in Nelson County, Kentucky, there was a marriage bond between Ethelbert MILLS and Anna WELLS. The surator was James HARDEN. Anna WELLS was the sister of Elisabeth WELLS. James HARDEN was married to Margaret WELLS, an other sister of Elizabeth Wells.
My "Theory" is that Mary "Polly" MILLS and Ethelbert MILLS were siblings.
The term "Sister in Law" and "Brother-in-law" was not always used in the manner we know them to be used today. Those we now call "Sister in Law" and "Brother-in-law" were at that time referred to as "sister" and "brother". Notice in the letters that Elisabeth addresses the wife of John Close as "Sister"...not sister-in-law. At that time, the terms "Sister in Law" and "Brother-in-law were used to refer to those who are now known as "step-sister" and "step-brother".

Jennifer,
I was very glad to recieve your message.
The marriage Bond between James HENDRIX and Mary "Polly" MILLS was dated 1787 in Nelson County, Kentucky.
Mary "Polly" (MILLS) HENDRIX [HENDRICK/HENDRICKS] died in July 1806.
So James H. HENDRIX, born in 1795 or 1798 in Nelson Co., KY could very probably be one of their children.
About the names of their other children. I have only been able to find two of the names:
Mary Ann HENDRICK, a child of James and Mary "Polly" (MILLS) HENDRIX/HENDRICKS/HENDRICK, became a nun with the sisters of Loretto. She took the religious name Sister Humbeline.
The other was "Polly".
In a letter from Sr. Elisabeth "Betsy" WELLS to John CLOSE dated August 21, 1820, she wrote:
"Your sister Polly HENDRIX daughter Mary Ann has become a nun, and Polly has married and has one child."
It would be very interesting to know the names of the other children of James HENDRIX and Mary "Polly" (MILLS) HENDRIX. I attempted to learn more about this family but was unsuccessful.
I would be very interested in what you can add and in the information you have collected thus far. I hope you will share some of you information with me.
Thank you so much for writing.
Judy

Thank you for the information. I have nothing further back than my James H. Hendrix b circa 1795, he married Sarah J. Leathers in 1820, they had 8 children and then he died in 1839 in White co., ILL. I have been stuck on this family for several years. But, as soon as I get back to the library I am going to put more effort into this really try to break through. If and when I find out more I will let you know.
I have read the part of the letters that are posted on genforum.com between Betsy and her brother. Guess you don't know Polly's father name.
Thank you
Jennifer Hendrix Moffett

Do you have the names of the children of Polly Mills and James Hendrix? I am following the line of Hendrix's that stop with the birth of James H. Hendrix in 1795 or 98 in Nelson co., KY. If I had the names of Polly's children, I could make a comparison.
Thank you,
Jennifer Hendrix Moffett
